  1. Thanks …again Chris. I suspect a slight exhaust leak so will get it up on ramps and take a look underneath if and when this weather

brighten up. I thought car handled well before front suspension refresh but it was not a patch on what it’s like now.😁

Might attempt to do the rear this winter.

    Hi Rjg

Im assuming you’ve plugged in a code reader and seen this message? But why did you start looking? Do you have a misfire or some other symptom? In my case the engine would barely run and there were so many fault codes suddenly showing it clearly wasn’t all of them at once. Disconnecting the maf produced a marked improvement in running even after having renewed plugs and coil packs. A good second hand maf cured the rough running and the CEL then cured itself. My plug in icarsoft reader now shows no codes.

In your case no CEL presumably means the fault is relatively minor.

I used a code reader to erase the Airbag light after fixing my annoying horn problem and it came up when I auto scanned.

Tbh, without the reading apart from a very minor difference in revs at idle I wouldn’t have noticed anything. Car passed its MOT recently with no advisories on emissions. Thanks for reply btw.👍

  3. Fixed my horn problem by gluing 4 rubber O rings on the back of the Airbag frame and a further 4 glued to

the 4 bolts that attach to the frame. Box of 5O assorted O rings from ECP at 99p a box. Bargain.

Cleared the Airbag light but auto scan came up with an Oxygen fault on Bank 2, I’m assuming this is a lambada sensor but no CEL ight on dash so could it be a leak on the exhaust itself instead?

  4. Thank heavens for this place and the search engine.

The little piece of cardboard that had been stuck in the thin gap on the steering wheel fell out on Thursday and it became so sensitive I

had to remove the horn fuse.  I’m not very popular with my neighbours right now.😁

  5. Not today but car got a nice fresh MOT on Tuesday after I finally finished the front suspension refresh with a couple of very minor advisories.

Tester said you’ve had a lot of work done on this haven’t you.   Gave me a very warm glow inside.
Coolant flush and replace this morning and hopefully a good long drive to celebrate

  6. My new brake line fitting from flexible hose to caliper is not going into the caliper female thread and I need to to tap and attempt to repair it.

Can anybody tell me either the brake line fitting or the female caliper thread size please. I have tried Google and other search engines but no luck.

In my defence the original was a pig to remove ..as has every other part I’ve attempted to renew. So much so that I’m beginning to think this is where the Porker name originated.😁

  7. My Icarsoft scammer turned up this evening and I have a faulty LHS Abs sensor.

These look like a bit of a pig to remove…any tips welcome. Have soaked it in penetration oil and left it till the morning and ordered a replacement from 911.

Yeah, I forgot their prices don't include VAT. I'll have a look on ebay, thanks!

Good call 1/2 cwt. the plate is part number 6 and the tube could have been the centre of the top mount.

That’s exactly what it was , it was the fact that it was completely detached from its original part that threw me .

    Thanks to cwt and yourself.👍

  10. Well it’s been a long tedious battle to have my condition back to near normal but I have managed to finish my front suspension refresh and rebuilt both front callipers with new pistons and seals. I now have the problem of having both my ABS and Brake Pad warning lights on. I understand the ABS light can be sometimes cleared by driving the car but unfortunately my MOT is now not valid and the car is Sorned. So to cut a long story short can anybody recommend a Scanner that can clear the ABS on a 2000 986 , bearing in mind I’m not the most adept person when it comes to technology. In the price range of the Foxwell NT 301 or cheaper if possible😁

    Good to be back btw.

  11. That’s the mystery BBB, I realise the plate was part of the system but the nearest thing I’ve seen to the alloy threaded tube item was on part of the rear suspension on a BMW E30 and that was encased in rubber.

  12. Well after a recurrence of a condition that I thought was under control I had to shelve all work on my suspension refresh, but I’m back and ready to continue.  Which brings me here, again , seeking knowledge and info.

Below is a photo of one of the removed struts which looks like a compensating plate attached to an alloy part, my question is what is it for and why only one one of the struts. Unfortunately I can’t recall what side of the car this particular part came from. Any help greatly appreciated.

  13. Thanks for that but I have it stripped off now and just awaiting parts.
I’ve worked on all the cars I’ve previously owned, especially BMW E30s and E36s so I’ve accumulated quite

a selection of tools but I’ll very much bear your kind offer in mind. I’m based at NN49RH btw, not far from the big Tesco’s .

    👍 Robert
