  1. Hi both sons cars touring and 2 series coupe , X5 is for the dog . The budget was going to stretch to a new M2 but selling house for a bigger drive , 944 on way (sons ) I bought it for him as a present as bought the other son a Jensen so double garage is full as already had a Jensen Healey in their .

Thought about an Aston but more of a Gt , TTrs just a bit too safe and tramline  , 991 wide not as wide as a 992 but not far off  , Exige have 2 lots of trouble usually serious cars , Maserati heart attack if anything goes wrong .

Quite fancy a 1M , Z4M coupe or a 997 4s would have loved an Alfa but too unreliable ,  car market is still all over the place , prices are still high we buy any car are a joke but most traders seem to use that as a guide to trade in then look through the yellow pages to pick a number out for retail ( yes really that old ) . Long gone are the days of reasonable priced cars with average mileage even BMW.CO.UK had a 69 plate 3 series GT last week on their site with 169k miles these would normally gone to a back street trader not a prestige dealership .

That`s why I am struggling to find something else , I may even store the Boxster and lease something .

Just been for a blast along Pooley Bridge -  Glenridding road ,  roof down , Aviators on & for once it was quiet need Shell garage next it like to drink !

  2. That time of year again !

Browsing ads & still hankering after a M2 Comp , I know it is not a Porsche but a bit more practical than the Boxster but every time I go out in the Boxster it gets back under my skin , what else will give me the thrills for the money ? sorry no I don`t want an electric car I like the noise too much until my other ear gives out .

       Suggestions please ?

  3. I would try a few 981s as they do feel different to the 987.1 & .2 , the earlier 987.1 feels a lot more like you are driving the car rather than a disconnected steering feel in the 981 you simply cannot get away from the electric steering feel and unfortunately it put me off buying one . I opted for the 987.1 S after having a 2.7 987.1 5 speed before and finding like you it was a bit slower than I expected . The 987.1S is in the higher tax bracket but is at least 8-10k cheaper than a 987.2 and 20k cheaper than a 981 , mine is 20mm lower than normal with a Carnewal exhaust ,6 speed  manual , sports chrono , sports seats , 19" wheels with new Michelin Pilot Sport  4s tyres . I have driven and owned a lot of cars but this is on another level with steering feel  so don`t discount them or be put off by the road tax .

    • Thanks 1
  4. Hi thanks it lives in a garage .

I have only done 2k miles since purchase so not likely to do much more than that over the next couple of years . Most people are saying that it is worth spending more  money on a 987.2 with double the mileage with no history  . webuyanycar.com quote £8205 ( should be re named we take the p*ss . com )  , BCA £12400  , none of it makes sense , cars on autotrader.co.uk 2007 3.4s no toys no history 58k miles £14495 private , 2007 3.4s poor history lots of advisories and mot fails , no toys £19995 58k miles dealer . So nearly a 12k difference for the same car .

Its quite interesting to think that these cars are put down for bore scoring and imminent big bills by the same forum that tells everyone how great their cars are , in an ideal world we would all be able to afford new cars ( electric milk floats ) and have no problems . The forum member I bought the car off was a great guy that looked after the car well , replacing parts , servicing and taking pride in the car something I also have carried on to find out now that the car is basically a ticking time bomb .

So my question is do I tell the next owner that it is not worth buying as it is about to implode or lie and ask for 20k getting ready to flee the country the next day ?

  5.  Here is a list of the codes

    C16 , XCZ ,  XRP , 026 , 245 , 267 , 268 , 288 , 342 , 375 , 376 , 403 , 424 , 502 , 551 , 567 , 573 , 601 , 639 , 680 , 810 , 983

Also has factory fitted 5mm spacers , 19" Carrera S wheels , Bi - Xenon , wind deflector , Bose surround sound , auto dimming interior and exterior mirrors with integrated rain sensor , sport shifter , auto climate control , floor mats , top tinted windscreen .

  6. Prices are all over the place what would be a good price for my 2007 Boxster 3.4 s 6 speed manual in Guards red ? I just replaced the front tyres to Michelin pilot 4s 8mm  to match the rears both  are 6mm also 4s , the car was a forum members car on here it had a service on the 11/10/22 at 53627 miles mot at same time no advisories  , current miles 53733 sorned over winter .

I just cant justify keeping the car to do a few thousand miles a year , it has heated sports seats , carnewall exhaust sounds amazing , updated infotainment with blue tooth , waves etc, sports chrono , zunsport grills , cruise control , steering wheel retrim by royal , Zenon head lights etc

The car drives very well , brakes are good to excellent , 6 speed short shifter precise , has 4/5 stone chips on the bonnet never bothered me , paint is sharp and soft top in good condition .

     thanks in advance !

  7. I have always seen the need for winter tyres , under 7 degrees the tyres become brittle and start cracking due to the compound being harder than winter tyres  , even 2 year old tyres can crack ! handling is  reduced  in the wet , slush or even snow . I run my 3.4s all year and fit winter tyres around now ,  saves the summer wheels and leaves a bit more tread when it heats up . A second set of wheels can be found quite cheaply on the net and most tyre suppliers have some big discounts around now .

It obviously depends on where you are in the country weather you fit them or not but all season tyres are not great in summer or winter conditions .

  8. A couple of years ago I  had a 2.7 987 5 speed as others have said it needed to be revved to get a decent pace , was a hoot in corners , but I always felt it needed a bit more power . Last year I bought a 3.4s 987.1 6 speed which blew me away performance wise felt sharper , has a Carnewal exhaust which makes it sound amazing . I would budget 15k for a decent 3.4s and 12-13k for a lower mileage 2.7 . Yes I know about bore scoring but you can get that checked out at a specialist for peace of mind .

I always buy a car firstly by looking at the tyres , they have to be premium brand and the same make on each axle  , check the date little circle on the side with 4 numbers in first 2 are the week of production last 2 are year .  If they are even tread car usually will have little suspension problems , scrubbed inside or outside could be tracking , suspension or miss use . Check for flat spots as these cars can sit over the winter .

Anything under 60k miles will sell better than 160k miles even with a full service history , run a hpi , check on DVLA mot history website and check for accident damage as they can spin quite easily in the damp or wet .

  9. Yes seen the resto they did a great job ! not sure how they can justify the costs though .

Every generation is meant to be an improvement , which to some it is and others it has been spoiled , I turn up in the 987 and peoples perception is that it is a relatively newish car as it has a private plate , I like the idea that it is a head turner and although the 986 is the earliest form it looks quite old from the front , side profile is very similar and rear the same unfortunately not every one loves or admires the fried egg head lights but the same can be said about the 987 that it has lost its focus or charm .

We were talking about the look not the worry we could all save some money and buy a mk 1 MX5 .

I tried several 981 , 981s , 718 base and a 718 4.0 , the base 981 was a bit flat and quite a lot bigger , 718 base was a hoot but not a great noise the other 2 are in another league but priced as they are I could buy 3 of mine for 1 .

I am pleased that people enjoy what they have mine is used all year round , guy lives round the corner bought a car 4 years ago and it has sat on his front ever since , never moved no mot , tax etc what a waste .

  10. Looks are subjective , Tiptronic is Cr=p compared to PDK and manual .

987 cant be lovely and cr*p at the same time .

I like the 986 but don`t love the head lights same as the 996 and out of all the Porsches today it would be my last choice , as a drivers car which is why most people buy them it is a different story , behind the wheel they hide their age well and are great fun .

Brave on a Boxster forum !

  11. A better question may have been why choose a 987 over a 986 ?

I like the 987 over the 986 but don`t want to cause upset amongst other forum members  . I also have a choice to disagree if he drove my 3.4s manual he would also change his mind .

Jensen is a great name , I have owned the car since 1985 .

  12. I tried several before going with a 987.1 2.7 manual 5 speed , the tiptronic  are a bit slow on the up take especially when going into a corner , bought s 987.1 3.4s 6 speed manual several months ago from a well known forum member on here it is even better than the 5 speed as it has a short shift . I had a test drive in a 981 PDK about 6 months ago again seemed to lack driver involvement ! Best trying a lot then make a choice plenty turn up on the forum and at least you know most  will have been well kept but as always do the checks .

       good luck
