Oil and filter change, new number plates (the rear was getting really scruffy as it had de-laminated) and fitted a proper exhaust/cat mounting bracket.
-
OK this was Saturday (been a busy weekend) but replaced one of the radiators which seemed to be on it's way out. As jobs have gone on this car, it was fairly straightforward.

Fitted the new oxygen sensor to the new cat (By gum it's cold out there) and it all runs fine, took her for a quick spin too. Feels so quiet after the old blowing cat. 🤔
Maybe one day I'll fit a nice sporty exhaust to it.

Cheers for the offer, but have got one on the way. I'll keep you in mind if I strip the threads on another one though 😁

Changed a catalyst that was blowing. Wasn't too hard to remove overall (Probably because it was taken off by Zuffenhaus last year when the removed the gearbox), but the oxygen sensors were a pain. One came out after some heating of the exhaust. The second one did come out but left a load of thread behind so I'll need a new sensor now. Doh. 🙄
One thing I found odd was that the sensors are 21mm and not the expected 22mm. No idea why this is and they appear to be genuine Bosch sensors. Maybe they've shrunk after so many years outside 😀

Fitted a jubilee hose clip to the power steering coupling? that had corroded and split. Wasn't quite sure how hard to tighten it up but it's on there.
Then decided to tackle the rear drop links. Nightmare. The top of both drop links seized in the hub, no amount of bashing would move them. Didn't help it was freezing out and I'm doing the work on the street.
I need to buy a gas torch or one of those cheap impact wrenches you can plug into your lighter socket. Too afraid to drive the car at the mo as the rear arb is not fixed on either side, both bottom links came out fine.
A Silverline impact gun sorted those for me. Battering the bolt with the impact gun eventually started to free it off and the corrosion/powder started to work it's way out of the bolt hole. After enough revs it was free and easy to remove. Way easier than trying to batter it with a hammer, which just distorted the bolt.

Nothing to the box as such but installed some LED light panels in the garage so I can see what the hell I'm doing in there. The modern ones give out a huge amount of light and the garage is transformed with them on. Thinking about how to put some in the floor so I can see what I'm doing under the car ?

Replaced the front engine mount. The old one had torn so this should make a difference. Unfortunately rain set in so it's not quite finished yet and still on axle stands ?

Nice ? Car hood warehouse? Hope you don't mind me asking, how much? Do you also notice the smaller rear window?
Cheers. Local chap who was reviewed really well and same price as CHW for a mohair with glass and headlining of £1050.
If you're looking directly out the back when reversing it is a little smaller but still fine. When using the rear view mirror you notice it's not as high but the width is fine. It is much clearer than the plastic screen that was on there though. And I don't have to do the Boxster chop anymore.

Collected it from Zuffenhaus after they replaced the rotten rear brake lines, and changed the gearbox oil plus a few other jobs I couldn't do.
Much happier now that's done. Highly recommend Zuffenhaus if they're close to you. Great bunch of guys and they do a cracking job.

Where did you fit the rear dash cam?

Good work, hope you avoided the petrol shower?
Just got a soggy glove. I ran the engine and then took out the fuel pump fuse to try and get rid of most of the fuel in the line. Wasn't too bad a caught most of the spill in my oil drain pan.
-
Changed the drivers side windows regulator and it now drops the correct amount when opening the door (Hallelujah) and finally changed the fuel filter. To me it looked to be the original item, so that was worth doing and not too tricky to change thankfully.
Then took her for a razz around the local country lanes to give her a bit of exercise.

I thought it was just mine that had quiet indicators, but I guess it's a common behaviour.

If you're feeling flush do the dampers and you will feel a whole new level of 'improvement'
I'm feeling very far from flush at the moment after all the work I've done to her so far ?
The front ones look like they've been changed fairly recently, but the rears look original so I'll definitely get around to changing those at some point (i.e. when I've saved up and have some more time)

4 wheel alignment done and then a blast around the roads with the top down to see how it feels. Much improved ?
Oh and I finally put on my refurbed wheels too. Looks much smarter, especially with the badges from @marts500

Finished fitting the front coffin arms, control arms, tie rods (inner and outer) and drop links this morning.
I found the cause of the squeaking/creaking from the front. The coffin arm ball joint was knackered and dry. Should be nice and quiet now.
After seeing the condition of the inner tie rod end, I probably wouldn't have bothered with changing them really, they looked and felt OK, but I've done it as I had the new ones in.
Next up is to get the alignment done.
-
I agree, but I've not seen anywhere that sells the bushes on their own. I may investigate further after I've done this as all the arms look fairly solid. Maybe someone does a refurb service. It'd be less wasteful of there was

Started taking apart the front suspension tonight. The rattle gun makes this so much easier, pity I can't get to all the bolts with it.
The bush on the front tuning fork was also really mushy
Also I apologise for the vertical video
-
Torqued up the bolts on the new rear suspension arms then took it for a drive on some country lanes. Feels loads better already so hoping when I do the front it'll be another step up.
Strangely quite on the roads tonight
-
Replaced all the rear suspension arms and bushes (last night) ready to be torqued up this evening
-
Removed both of the stuck drop link top bolts/pinch bolts from the rear suspension thanks to one of these.
Silverstorm 593128 - 400W Electric Impact Wrench 230V https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B014FO4I1I/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_gi5qBbTZRRP30
It's my new favourite tool. The bolts slowly started turning and spitting out the oxidation, eventually freeing up completely so they just spun out. Very happy with that.

Started on the big suspension overhaul today. Managed to undo or remove all the rear arms and bolts apart from the damned drop link top bolt/pinch bolt. They both seem seized solid into the hub. Going to ponder my options overnight for them.
Also I think I found the cause of the knocking from the rear.
It was like that on both sides. The rest of the bushes send OK, apart from the donut in the middle of the coffin arms and the ball joints felt a bit worn. Drop links and ARB bushes definitely needed changing.
What have YOU done to your 986 today ?

Started prepping it for sale by changing the air con condensers and drier ready for a refill.
