Battery back in car no ear plugs required, thanks all fo4 contributions
Don't store it in the lockable glovebox! One of the seat pockets if you have room. 👍

Dry today?

If it has been wet recently, I'd look a the coils first. If they are cracked, the are prone to water ingress which can cause loss of power/hestiation type feel to accelerating.
-
Submitted before I was finished... If it is wet, put a full or half cover on to stop further ingress. It will likely be, fix the leak and a new alarm module if it's wet down there. These thing rarely recover from water.

My new battery died after two days recently (now recharged) and tonight I have noticed that some of my dashboard lights - mileage, mph etc - have remained illuminated for at least three hours after I used the car. I thought that they only stayed on for 5mins?
Could this be the battery drain I have been looking for?
Erm you also had a new battery die? I think you may have water under the passenger seat. The exact same thing happened to my friend's 996, additionally he'd wake up in the morning and both windows would be down, along with the alarm randomly going off, dash lights on permanently.
Lift up the carpet and have a good feel at the bottom of the foam and below it, I'd imagine it's soaked.

Pretty sure there is a sensor for the alarm to stop it being towed, getting wheels nicked in Liverpool or cats stolen. Managed to set off the alarm jacking up the car, but without unlocking it/disarming the alarm. Frightened the life out of me.

Not for a 986, but my renewal was £60 cheaper on my Toyota this year compared to multiple quotes from comparison sites. I believe there are now new rules around renewals and pricing, which seems to be working for the most part. This doesn't apply to buildings, contents or breakdown insurance sadly.
Unless, you've been in an accident there really is no reason for your premium to go up.
Get cheaper quotes from comparisons and present them to current insurer if you want less hassle and to stay with them. Call them and first ask if it's their best quote, quite often it's not and they are just reaping on the lazy. After that, give them quotes from other insurers, they'll often price match. It's a pain, but often worth it, helped my Mother save £260 a few years back.
NCD can also have a dramatic impact on pricing. Apply NCD to your car that is the most expensive to insure. 👍
Also, do remember that quotes can change day to day.

Honestly I don't know for sure, but I thought the sensors were there for the airbags on face-lift models. If you get an airbag error, a cheap code reader won't clear it.
-
Double press the lock button on the key, it will disable the interior sensors. It should at least rule out insects/spiders in the cabin if the alarm triggers. I don't think that will disable the tilt sensor though.

Not sure why you'd want to store the car in the summer. Doesn't that defeat the purpose of having a convertible? It's a bit of a faf putting a hard top on, not sure my slim frame could do it alone. Sure the soft top does fade in sunlight, but they are extremely hard wearing and can be dyed if you don't like the fade. Maybe get a half cover instead? You can remove it yourself in a minute and tucks nicely away in the either boot in it's own bag. Additionally a half cover will come in handy if you get any water leaks in the future.

Assuming you mean the stock rubber mud flaps on the bottom of the arch behind the wheels? Around 10 pounds a corner from OPC, you may need to cut out a bolt or two if they are really bad. Used contact cleaner and mine came off the next day. Just be a little careful when taking the old ones off as if I recall correctly, they join in directly through the undertray, but it has a washer behind, which you don't want to lose.

I've seen 19s on a 986 and they make it look hideous in my opinion. They just don't look right.
Paul1962 put a set on his.

I said reasonable price 😏
OPC is the cheapest place for a hardtop fitting kit, so worth a phone call. Almost any part that doesn't have aftermarket production will be cheapest at OPC.

This thread should give you all the info you need on the subject.

Do the windows drop? If they don't it can push the hook above the latch, this can be caused by an intermittent microswitch problem in the roof gearbox. Keep an eye on the hood light on the dash.

Pretty sure the boot struts are excessively expensive. Vaguely recall paying £20 for each end on mine. I would imagine there was at least a call before carrying out the additional work?
-
Vaguely recall @Nobbie mentioning this. Had no idea it would go up in smoke and cease the engine. 😳
-
Would recommend buying from OPC, grab the brackets, nuts and bolts too because the old ones, if never been changed, will likely be perished. Mine were £20 ish for the rear if I recall correctly.
-
Worh paying extra for this, have read reports of misted/fogged lenses from cheaper products.

There's something, probably lots of things questionable about the history and condition of this car. The mileage in 2006 looking rather odd! MOT history since 2005 on a 2001 car.. hmmm. It may have been off the road for a year, but nothing adds up. Timing belt kit on cam chain car.
Looks like the usual case of a dealer (wearing pink slippers) putting zero effort into giving the full picture. -
Your 160+vat (192) isn't too far away from 220. I'm sure some OPC prices will vary from centre to centre. They are there to make money and bleed everyone dry if they can. After all, they are part of VAG, one of the world largest car companies.

Think I got mine from Autodoc some years ago. Might be worth considering replacing the thermostat housing/bracket too. I didn't bother looking for a specific brand, as they are pretty cheap if I recall correctly. Personally I wasn't tempted with the low temp thermostat and went with stock temp (87 C I think?).
