  1. Yep, cracked subframe sounds a bit ominous to me also, always amazes me how many times tyres come up as an MOT fail, not like they are hidden under plastic covers! - There's some cherished well maintained cars out there, unless it's seriously cheap, I would move on TBH.

  2. If you're putting in a jumper in place of the relay and it's not running (And fuses being OK), chances are it's the pump, this isn't unheard of for them to run, then not, then free up and run again. Before splashing out on a replacement pump, double check you have 12 V at the pump and the ground connection is good thou.

  3. A quick and easy check of the fuel pump relay/pump - When turning the ignition on (Not trying to start the engine thou) can you hear the whine of an electric motor for a couple seconds, If nothing at all, the pump is not priming the fuel system and hence no go.

  4. Morning All,

Not really a model specic question this, but, any recommendations for paintshops in the MK/Northants/Beds area, just looking to get the side skirts and rear bumper repainted (Usual gravel rash is beginning to bug me)

    Thanks

I'm reluctant to use that coasting feature, probably all in my head but I have it engrained that thid type of transmission doesn't like coasting.

The coasting function is the same as the double paddle pull when in D or manual (When stationary), in that it fully disengages the clutch packs, rather than the slight "Drag" engagement position when in D,R or even P), can't see it doing any harm, just undriven gears turning in a bath of oil.

  6. Had the same thing happen the other week, but I'm pretty sure the leaves in question came from the engine bay side. No debris at all in the vent or caught in the mesh in front of the fan....... Strange how it started after I had parked up in a corner car park slot, on top of a pile of leaves that had collected there!

Your going to need a long "Poker" to dislodge the leaves, at least 300mm, the fans are set a long way back.

  7. "The dreaded PCM reboot has visited me , driving along the other day and music stopped and Porsche boot up logo loaded up. Restarted and searched for phone and continued away . This has been prexeedes by taking ages to find my phone on BT (Apple) or not connecting at all

presume OPC will need to see issue happening to look into it/replace , it’s under warranty 😃"

They will try to reflash your PCM to the latest firmware revision 1st thing, If the PCM throws a double 6 during the reflash it's  toast and you will get a shiny  new one (That's what happened  to mine a few weeks back) - That's  official procedure at OPC's so I was told, they will not attempt any physical repairs.

  8. Driven a few PDK's (991, 981 Cayman, 718s & Mine) and they all do it (In manual and auto) if mooching in traffic, more noticeable when the car is warm, but still there from cold. TBH at low speed, especially in auto they can get a bit confused with the clutch disengaging and trying to change into 1st when rolling onto "Sleeping Policeman" then immediately making a bit of a lumpy change back to second when you roll back onto the accelerator.

  9. FYI, when I spoke to the local OPC (Extended Porsche warranty) the routine is to try re flash the PCM firmware to latest revision. If the the PCM reboots itself during this process (Mine seems to be in a 2 Min boot loop) the whole PCM will be toast.....

So if not under warranty, I would keep it away from an OPC, you could end up with a big bill or an unrepairable unit. The idea of cloning the failing drive to an SSD seems like the way forward.

  10. The HDD in my PCM has packed up in my 14 plate 981 also, as the OP described, no prior warning, just stopped, tried the reset routine, no go. Fortunately for me, the car is under extended warranty, so is booked in for a week's time.

Wonder if they will attempt to clone the old HDD ( Not worried about the music on the Jukebox), but an up to date version of maps would be nice ??

  11. No issues Re MOT's or extended warranty renewal (Not that that should come as a surprise), I expect however that although the 35 W ballast would operate the 25 W HID, not sure how the lifespan of the bulbs will be effected?

have been to a number of dealers who don't prep the car until after sale so that prospective buyers see the actual damage.

When i bought from Maundrells, they told me that they regulary have to re-spray the noses of boxsters and 911's due to stone chips, but wait until the car is sold so that the buyer sees it for what it is and not a freshly painted bumper which could be down to accident damage.

I get the concept, but if i'm splashing 70k+ i'd expect it to be prepared to within an inch of its life!

There's the rub, this was prepped(!), inc a front end respray (ala OPC used /approved) -  I think it's just a different level of what people see as acceptable on a used car, honestly don't think they had noticed it/thought it mattered, and the same will go for the 986 in the OP's post - Luckily for the motor trade not everyone is as fussy or just wanting it right (Depending on what side of the fence you sit)

  13. On the same note, I went with a friend last lockdown easing to look at a 991.2 C2S he was interested in at a well respected indie - Counted 6 car park dinks in it from the reception desk (It got worse the closer we got!) and they wanted £70+K, when asked what he thought about the car as the salesman was trying to close the deal, told them honestly that it was not well presented and he would look elsewhere - The car was sold 3 days later!

  14. 3 shades of silver, and overspray on the wheel arch liners would have me walking away at £5K let alone £9K - The tired drivers seat and general grubbiness of it make it comical, bet it sells thou, people have different standards!
