  1. Interesting referencing the Jaguar as I've had a few over the years and currently use along with my other cars a 96 X300 4.0 sovereign it's a quality built car like our 987's and a keeper for me too.

Suits the French roads as well and as I don't care about MPG although it's surprisingly good compared to other models.

We are a interesting bunch on here.

    OLDSCHOOL !

Not knocking it but things like lanoguard have moved things on ?

Totally agree but at 61 I'm Old School and being semi retired I've got all the time in the World.

The Good thing about my method it hides nothing and costs me the same.

The Guy who tests my cars here in France loves seeing them as it makes his job pleasurable and as an ex MOT tester myself I agree you can't beat a well presented car.

  3. Mines up on the two post lift at the moment whilst I'm cleaning the underside of mine ready for a fresh application misting of old engine oil with a bit of diesel sprayed everywhere.

We don't have salt on the roads in this part of France but my car was in the UK for a few years before I brought her.

She has no rust and I keep her in my workshop but it's Good Insurance as I like to use her all year round.

Gulp, hoses £100 at worst ,15 mins max a corner to fit plus a bleed…. I think someone his having there pants down at 400 quid …any garage could do that for you, if your not capable?

Here in France I wouldn't even put a car on my lift to earn an hour's labour with 45 years experience on the tools and worked for Ford, Toyota run of the mill and high end Lotus and Maserati Dealerships I value my skills and experience too much.

You get what you pay for and my collection of Snap On tools could buy me a house here.

  5. Mine has the sports cat manifolds to the original system and sounds lovely especially on first start up and accelerating through the gears just love it.

As a fully qualified mechanic and been lucky to work for some good brands around the World it's meant I can run the cars I want too but on the other hand I pay professionals to sort my house out so it's horses for courses really.

  6. I did remove the seal as recommended by a specialist.

The hardest part for me as until getting my Boxster I had never really worked on one was getting my head around working on a flat 6 and working underneath it.

Having done mine I would happily do another.

To be fair doing my front shocks gave me more grief than doing the IMS seals.

  7. False economy not to change the dual mass flywheel as if it fails it can destroy your bell housing.

Do it once do it right.

I've been on the spanners for 45 years and worked for several manufacturers from Ford to Maserati and learnt a lot in that time.

Not mine but OP on here changed out front strut…. Bit of a faff .. when heat and cutting discs (that was just to get strut mount bolt out.. very carefully mind)you just know you’re in a world of hurt …. However done !!

It was a tough job with both anti roll bar links seized solid in the aluminium hubs.

Cutting the rods I managed to get the left one out but the other had to be drilled out and I saved the hub.

Had to cut the top mounts off as the alloy bushes were seized onto the piston rods.

Springs were in great condition though.

Justine need a track rod end to finish the job.

  9. Had some Fun on my 05 today wanting to replace the front struts as they were highlighted as being worn on its recent Contrôle Technique here in France so new ones ordered to replace.

Drop link top mountings totally seized in the hubs.

Have got one out but the other is not moving at the moment what a chore.

  10. I was under the impression that the larger bearing didn't give problems.

I had my transmission out a year ago to sort what I thought was the RMS but it was the IMS seals which were leaking.

The bearing looked and felt good so just did the seals and no oil leaks now.
