  1. Great job Daz and I have been tempted to do the same - the GTS front does look great and it looks like youve done a cracking job.

I have also been having some similar thoughts to you about alternatives recently and have been very tempted by a couple of Carrera T's but think I like the 981 too much.

    Enjoy the upgrades!!

  2. This is probably due to the level of cover - I know Plan A covers all gearbox components, with no exceptions, as I too checked this at the time of enquiring.

If I read correctly, you are considering Plan B, which I think is driven by the cars age when taken out but not certain. If you are set on Motoreasy, would they not entertain a Plan A on your car?

  3. While this is probably no help - when I was discussing warranties with Motoreasy, the active gearbox mounts were a specific point I asked for clarification on. Now, this is based on a 'Plan A' policy, but I was told after much back and forth that they would be covered under this plan due to them being not only a gearbox mount, but an electrical item.

By their very nature, they have an electrical connector. and would be deemed an electrical item.

If it were me, I would just double check they are not assuming it is a simple rubber mount as you would find on most cars.

  4. Ok - so just an update on this to close my particular case off.

I went back to Admiral and requested they show me where in my policy documents it states they will not insure a car on SORN.

It turns out they can't and have agreed to insure the Boxster while it is SORN. An acceptable result in the end but so, so painful to get there. I won't be making the mistake of going with Admiral again!

  5. It's definitely the norm for Admiral it would seem. Not so for many other insurers I have used in the past.

I am going to have another go with Admiral and see if a different person can be a little more helpful. I mean, surely keeping a car tucked away in a garage and not being driven on the roads lowers their risk considerably? Not sure it makes any difference to them but will try and put my point across.

Sadly, I think it will be a case of 'computer says no'!

  6. Wondering if anyone else has come across this?

I have a multicar policy with Admiral and spoke with them today to inform them I would SORN my Boxster at the end of the month. I was a little surprised at the reply - they said I couldn't do that and would have to cancel my insurance if I am to SORN it. They will not insure a SORN car.

To make matters a little more painful, taking 1 car off the multicar policy makes the overall insurance cost higher, plus they want a cancellation fee.

I have never had this response in the past with other insurers and I was wondering if I was talking to someone who just didn't have a clue or if others had experienced the same with Admiral.

Let me know if anyone else has found a way around this with Admiral.

  7. Not sure this is of any use or applies to any other models but I have been onto the My Porsche section of the Porsche website and have noticed they now list all of the optional equipment that came with the car in the 'All technical data' section.

Maybe this has always been there but I had never noticed it.

Anyway, if you need a quick and easy way to check your cars original spec, it should be there.

  8. I did buy some Zunsports, fitted them and used them for a week or so but then removed them, sold them on and made my own.

My experience was that they looked a little odd and I wasn't 100% on the quality of the fitment, they all seem to protrude slightly differently between the slats. My 2 top grilles also touched the paint on the bumper at the top corners - I was convinced it would rub it down to primer pretty quickly!

I prefer the look of mesh behind the slats and have stuck with that.

Lots of people seem to love them though, so it's all personal choice I guess......

  9. Had my MOT today too. Flew through no issues then took it for a proper blast for the first time in a while and reminded myself why I love the car so much. Roof down, PSE singing away,  it just doesnt get any better!  these cars are just brilliant, always an occasion and so, so much fun!

  10. All I can add is that I wouldn't be without mine - it makes driving the car a proper event to my ears. Unreliable or not, I personally see it as a must have option. It may be my inner child speaking, but it sounds glorious to me!

Hi, that's a scary thought, that's the first time at least. It wasn't the vacuum unit it was definitely the plectrum shaped piece which had some surface rust and tried to attach itself to the exhaust. Can only think the cause is probably that it was put away a little damp underneath after coming back from its service.

Maybe worth applying something a bit more permanent on it, you got any ideas?

We managed double digit temperatures and sunshine today so was great to get it started up for a short drive today. The noise is glorious, even got the thumbs up from a Noble driver.

I apply ceramic grease to mine and move it by hand fairly regularly, although I have used a tin of it so its a bit tricky to get it behind the plectrum part to the hinge. I think a spray version is available, this might do a better job of getting it where its needed?

I stopped being so lazy and looked it up.  For others ref it's this - I will do this later today

    1. Turn on the engine, turn off A/C (and any other consumer like PCM, etc.) and let the engine run for 3 minutes.

    2. Turn on A/C and wait another 3 minutes.

    3. Turn off engine, remove the key, close the car and wait one minute.

    4. Restart car and PDK is now reset to factory default.

I did it to mine as I had a slight jerkiness/clunk, particularly from 2nd to 1st.

It definitely smoothed things out so well worth a try!

Where is it from Roose please?

It came from a seller on Alixpress - there are lots of sellers on there selling different designs.

I don't have the exact seller to hand but will try and dig it out.

I was a bit skeptical given the price, but it is pretty good quality in fairness, came with a nice presentation case too with 2 choices of centre section depending on which colour is preferred.

  14. Have some interest in this.

I have a Motoreasy 'Plan A' policy set up to start in December when my independent dealer warranty expires. I chose Motoreasy as they seemed the most comprehensive and have no betterment, excess, claim limit clauses etc and cover wear and tear. On enquiring I specifically ask if there were a few things covered, which I asked for in writing - PDK gearbox, PADM mounts amongst others and was received.

I have been, and still am in 2 minds (can cancel before mid-December) because I am sorely tempted to go the Porsche warranty route as the car has FPSH, but I haven't due to the restrictions they impose. I have Zunsports, which I think are essential but not allowed and in my case, the front brakes were changed by the dealer before collection with Sebro/Textar and I know these won't pass the inspection, so I immediately have to add 550 (if fitting myself, double that if going to Porsche) or so to the cost as I will need to throw away perfectly good brakes to pass the 111 point check. I also did an interim oil change and used a magnetic sump plug, as I have always done, but this would also need to be replaced with a standard one.

I can definitely see the attraction of the Porsche warranty and may still go that route but for me, Motoreasy seems the best of the rest and allows a choice of servicing/modifications but of course, no one can tell until they actually claim!

  15. Fitted zunsport grilles.

Did have some diy grilles in place and now I am not sure which I prefer, the diy ones were a little more discreet tucked behind the slats.

Zunsport clearly better quality but not yet sure if I like the look.

I will give it a few weeks and see.......
