  1. I've never been one for buying a car to turn a profit, but if it happens I'm not going to complain.

The garage where the 996 is located have just called me with an update and have done the following work to get the car ready for me:

    - New Alternator

    - Removed, repaired and resprayed rear bumper

    - Fitted 2 new a/c condensers

    - Balancing the wheels

    - Fitted new drivers side window regulator

    - MOT

    - Full service including new spark plugs, oil filter, oil and pollen filter

All at no extra cost!!!  Funnily enough this is pretty much the same work that I had done on my 986 last year.

They're also getting their audio guy to give me a price to replace the PCM.1 at cost.

Hopefully taking it for a another test drive tomorrow and if all goes well then I'll get finances sorted and buy it.

  2. I did declare the rear bumper crack but never even noticed the cracked clear coat on the front bumper.

I asked the guy what the most expensive car that he’d bought and it was a £150k Lamborghini!!!

  3. She's gone 😭

So I flogged my 2004 S Tip to WBAC yesterday and I must admit I was surprised at what I got offered.  The on-line price offered was £6132, which I knew I was never going to get, and was expecting them to walk around the car and pick up every single stone chip and scuff and knock off £50 for each one.  What actually happened was that I drove up, parked the car, chap comes over and asks me to start the car, we go through the service book, check the dash for warning lights, check how many keys I've got for the car, checks that the roof opens and closes as it should and then walks around the car.  The only things he picked up was the crack in the rear bumper and the cracked clear coat and scuffs on the front bumper.  After a chat about why on earth had he moved from Cornwall to Wolverhampton he offered me £5340 and that was that.  Now I know I could have got more it'f I'd have sold it privately, but to be honest, I really couldn't be arsed with the hassle of maybe putting it on eBay, or Autotrader and having time wasters, no shows and just having to wait for it to sell.  Whereas now I have £5340 to put towards my 996 C4.

Sell the 986 private or do wbac they'll give you more than that for it , good luck

That's what I was thinking of doing actually.  I've heard that Motorway are pretty good with their prices and in some cases offer

    more than WBAC.

  5. A mate of mine informed me of a 2001 996 Carrera 2 with 78k miles and 4 previous owners that's going for £15.5k.  I went to take a look at it yesterday and have to say that I was pretty impressed.  There is a full service history with 80% Porsche the rest at Indy's.  The interior is spotless, the exterior doesn't have any marks, the oil cap was clean, there was no ticking from the engine when idle and all the electrics worked ok including the sun roof, windows and heated seats.  The issues I did see were the A/C didn't work which could be a just a re-gas or possibly knackered condensers (I need to get them to check), rear tyres are old and need replacing and brake disks need skimming as there is surface rust on them as the cars been sat outside for a few months.  I checked the MOT history and it passed it's last one so the question is, what are the pro's and con's of a 996 of a 986s?

My biggest issue is that they're only going to give me 4k for my 986 s!!!!  My 986 s is a Tip 2004 in seal grey and I've had the A/C fixed, it has cruise control and OBC, 95k on the clock, Full service history, drives perfectly, new rear tyres, no cr*p in the oil cap, engine runs superbly.

Has anybody owned both a 986 and a 996 and able to tell me the good and bad of both?

  6. I removed the drivers seat the other day and it was incredibly easy.  I popped the roof down, removed the key from the ignition to stop the airbag warning light from coming on, removed the four screws, unplugged the socket from underneath the seat and took the seat out.  One thing I would say is wrap some towels or something over the seat runners before you take the seat out as it's very easy to knock the door or sill and they would leave a nice scratch if uncovered.

It's also worth noting that the socket underneath the seat has a plug at the side that needs to be pulled out before you can pull the socket apart.  This link has a good guide on removing the seats:

  7. As the title suggests, is there a reason why people don’t have the roof down when they remove seats? I need to remove my driver side seat to replace the mesh underneath as the seat bottom has sunk, and all the vids I’ve watched the people all have the roof up. Surely it’s be easier to do with the roof down so I was just wondering if there’s a reason for not putting the roof down.

  8. Finally got round to having the OBC stalk fitted and the OBC enabled on my 2004 986 S.  Stalk cost me £50 off ebay and local Porsche indy charge me £120 (inc VAT) to do everything.

So after having a major service last month, new rear tyres last week, door leak fixed and the OBC sorted all that needs doing now is some cosmetic work on the bumper.

I just wish the weather was warmer so I could drive with the roof down.  I'm not one for having the roof down in the freezing cold and wearing a scarf and hat as if I'm driving a 1920's Bentley.

  9. I went for the Turtle Wax kit from Amazon for £10.  Did it yesterday and am really impressed with the results.  It's a far more manual process as the sanding pads do not attach to a drill but for £10 it did a grand job of removing 16 years worth of oxidisation.

  10. Just about to go and pick mine up from it's MOT where it's passed with no advisories.  I must admit that I expected it to fail on emissions due to the cloud of white smoke it chucks out on a cold morning, but as I took it for a drive before dropping it off I have dodged that MOT bullet. Would that be classed as cheating?
