  1. Washed and waxed as i wasn't happy with the crappy wax i put on last time, it just didn't bead at all. I then had the stereo i fitted (a "factory reconditioned" unit off ebay) a couple of weeks ago go on the blink. As luck would have it, i have another sony here, so literally a 2 minute job to switch them out and prove it's the stereo rather than the wiring. I've contacted the seller, we'll see what he says.

Lots of people have resorted to getting a ferry to Scotland to get an MOT there so they can keep on the road.

This is what a friend of mine had to do as he forgot to book himself in and needed the car. He got a last minute spot on a ferry, the car's only about 5 years old so went straight through (it is a range rover though, so no certainty!), doing it this was was less impact than faffing about with the NI system. It makes you wonder if there's an MOT in Scotland, just round the corner from the ferry terminal, who're really busy?

I put a Kenwood head unit in mine for the same reason to get BT and DAB.  I went for a film aerial that stick to the screen and put it on the passenger side.  Works great and cost about £10 or £12 for the pukka Kenwood one, cheaper ones are out there but it is that much of a saving...?

Glad the shimmy was the cheap option.  Feels great once it has gone doesn't it?

I've a sony head unit, but it then leaves me with the question about what's a good antenna? There's a car hifi place not far from here, i'll nip in tomorrow, see what they recommend. Then i have to suss out how to get the cover off the pillar.

  4. New stereo to replace the CDR22. I got it for the bluetooth & dab functions but the dab wants a pukka antenna really. On previous cars it's been OK, on this it isn't, it's only picking up maybe 25% of stations, and they're pretty crunchy. I'm pleased with the mic on the bluetooth though, I had the clocks up & off the dash and ran the mic into the little section to the right of the clocks, and it's gone in a treat.

I had two shimmys on mine, one in the high 60s/low 70s which was balance on 17" rims, the another at around 80 (only on the continent... you understand) which turned out to be a slightly buckled front left, fixed for £40 at my local tyre independent.

A run last night from Stockport to the autobahn for testing purposes showed that the balancing as done the trick perfectly. Cost me a bit in fuel, but at least I didn't break the law in any way.

  6. I took advantage of the weather report that said it'd be dry all day, i cleaned then reproofed the roof.

    It then rained....

I'm on a night shift tonight, so i'll head in 20 minutes early and have another go then, hopefully it'll be dry by the time i come out of the shelter of the car park in the morning.
