  1. That's fine, I'll have a look at them and just see if I could get lucky that's if I don't get mine sorted before then, I hate things not being right and this is seriously bugging me, I'll keep your details so I can get in touch and if you let me know when you get sorted and keep me updated that'd be great.

    Much appreciated

Once I've got a perfect fit & seals made good, I'll get it resprayed to match my car ( seal grey ) but it looks okay already. I may also consider putting sound-deadening materials behind the roof liner. I'd like a bigger change of character between hard-top & cabriolet.

Which side is yours leaking?? If your passenger side is good I might see if you'll sell me the rubber from that side to see if it solves mine??

My drivers side is bone dry and it doesn't leak when using the soft top.

  3. I really like the look of the hardtop and might give zentrum a call, they do my servicing  see if they can set it up, I think I'd pay 1000 to sort the problem out to be honest but yes, really glad I've got one, not many knocking about. Never seen another in the flesh with one fitted.

  4. Hi, I'm still adjusting and trying to stop the trickle of water on my passenger side from the top of the pillar, it has lessened but still drips, I've treated the rubbers a few times now, adjusted the tilt of the glass to press harder onto the seal, running out of ideas now, I've put some rubber tubing inside the rubber but it still trickles in, drivers side is bone dry. I've read about adjusting the rubbers on the hardtop by freeing it from the frame then loosening screws to adjust it but not sure where it adjusts so might look at this at the weekend, massively frustrating now.

  5. That's what my guy said, he said it will just drive and feel better through the gears which for me makes a difference, its not for everyone but that's why we are all different.

  6. I'm just taking my guy at his word, he's done a few boxsters now and said they always drove better afterwards, proof in the pudding, if it doesn't impress I'll see about getting my money back, simple as that.

  7. Sorry mate misunderstood you, coolant perfect, floor bone dry, he's coming back Sunday but in these situations it bugs me to death, car never had any faults in 4 years of ownership, after this remap I get these 2 faults on the dash.

  8. Hi, just had a guy I've used before on my bmw to remap my boxster 987s and just took it out for a spin, check coolant level and check engine light came on, this isn't coincidence at all. I trust the guy 100% and he will sort it or put it back to stock, anyone else experienced this or any ideas, wish I'd never had it done now.

    Thanks in advance.

  9. I'll be putting my hard top roof on anytime soon till next March, is there anything to condition the soft top before I put the roof down for this length of time, after last winter there were a few creases but they came out after a few days or so after the roof was tensioned back up, I guess that's to be expected after being folded for 6 months.

    Cheers.

I bought one myself in December but became despondent about water ingress & took it off after only a couple of months. I just couldn't stand the idea that while the soft top worked perfectly, the hardtop didn't.

I Gummi-phleged very thoroughly but never got on terms with the adjustments possible from those panels behind the handles. Replacing the seals is ludicrously expensive. I will try again in the Autumn and persevere. The idea is just too good to give up on it.

Mine was leaking on both sides.

BBB says his is a great success, so it can be done!

I've got the roof sitting nice and tight against the body by adjusting the panel at each side and mine just drops from passenger side so hopefully its something simple.

See if you can plump up the seal with some cord, washing line, plastic straw etc.

I've read about this before, which part do you do?? The furry seal on the roof or the rubber seal down the pillar?? Does it just peel away then clip back in??

I had a leak like this but on drivers side and with the softtop.  Cured it by clearing accumulated gunk out of channel that runs within front window pillar rubber seal, from top of windscreen downwards.

I'll have a look at that when I remove the roof. I get the odd drop when I wash it when the soft top is up but nothing major. Hopefully something simple.

  14. Hi, I brought a hardtop roof in October last year and have noticed a leak coming from the front top corner where the roof seal meets the window pillar seal, it drips in onto my door speaker grill and into my umbrella compartment, I'll be taking the roof off in the next week but just wondered if anyone else has had this happen?? Only happens passenger side. Don't get any wind noise when driving.

    Many thanks.

  15. I haven't read all comments but I fitted the H&R M030 springs to my 987s, my car doesn't have PASM and the stance now looks great, bit of a compromise because I like a slightly lower stance but the roads are terrible so too low isn't practical, I don't like the slammed look either so these for me were perfect.

I’ve not done it myself either, but I believe the trim piece is removable, as the adjusters are under there, so that you can fine tune the fitting to your car.

I know it's removable but was just wondering if it can be removed whilst fitted to the car, just to save me getting the neighbour to lift it off and back on with me. 👍

My old ride was an MR2 Roadster, and I got a hardtop for that.  Had to drive a long way, and owner had to help me swap over the fitting kit from his car to mine, which was borderline daunting for someone with no mechanical experience.  We got through it though.  But I loved my hardtop on the MR2, because the hood was a glorified tent.  It was actually really good fun changing it over twice a year, because the hood had such little sound insulation and was so drafty, that putting the hardtop on made it feel like a completely different car.  It was literally like changing cars twice a year, which was an enjoyable event all on its own.

But, with the 987, it's quite a different story.  The hood on the 987 is an improvement over the old 986 hood, which itself is obviously better than the MR2's hood.  It's thick, warm and doesn't let much sound through.  I remember in the 2, the sound difference was huge with/without the hardtop on.  You had to turn the radio up crazy loud above 50mph.

My car is a daily driver, and kept outside.  But I've dealt with that by buying an excellent half cover which covers the hood and glass area.

Would I like a hardtop for my 987?  Honestly, yes.  I miss the hardtop on my old MR2.  "Changing cars" twice a year was fun, and the car also looked really cool the the lid on; something I think is also true of Boxsters.

But, I haven't done it (yet), because:

    1. they're not cheap

    2. they're rare and hardly ever come up

    3. I hear through the grapevine (someone please correct me if I'm wrong) that putting on the fitting kit is quite an involved job on a 987, unlike the 986 or MR2, and I'd probably need to give the job to a specialist, further increasing the cost

    4. my car's speed yellow, and I'd probably have a better chance of world peace than finding a yellow 987 lid, meaning I'd need to pay to get it resprayed, increasing the cost even more.

So, I live on umming and arghhing.  Maybe one day.....

Fitting the spin locks isn't too difficult on a 987 to be honest, access isn't great but the job is easy to do in my opinion, there's 3 bolts on each side of the mechanism, loosen the front one and remove the other 2, chock up the mechanism with some packers which helps when you refit the bolts, you can then push up on the roof to lift the mechanism enough to get the bolt in the spin lock then tighten with an Allen key.

  18. Just an update, installed the hardtop last Saturday and absolutely love how it looks fitted, looks way better than in pictures so I'm well chuffed!! Got a question for anyone in the know, the passenger side plastic trim piece is slightly loose so I've ordered some plastic clips from porsche as there were some missing or broken and I'm waiting for them to come, does anyone know if I can pop off the panel whilst it's fitted to my car?? I've popped some of the clips off but not tried all of them, it looks as if it will but don't want to damage anything.

    Cheers.
