  1. I'm a keen drain flusher as I got caught out a few years ago and  landed a hefty bill.

Pal of mine has a 986 which is a bit rough, he got fed up of keeping drains flushed so drilled 2 holes in the floor, reckons he has never had a problem since....

  2. So my 2005 Boxster S rear OS brake caliper has started leaking (Just had major service & brake fluid flush so bit miffed). Gave it a quick look over, no leak from the flexi & no leak from bleed nipple  so thinking it might be a seal. Planning to take it off this weekend to properly diagnose. Anyway decided to ring round to price a new one just in case. Supplier I have used before says he has one but it's black....I  says I  thought all Boxster S are red (ceramic are exception I know) he says no some are black, you can get it painted . Hmmm taken this info with a large slice of scepticism but happy to be proved wrong.

So are rear red & black calipers the Same?

  3. Quick update. After seeing the drain drawing I thought my wire might be too stiff to get round the last bend so I had a poke with a very thin tree branch which was super bendy. Went through with a bit of a shove and I found the culprit, it's a broken peice of plastic which the debris had formed a plug around. Drains no problem now, big relief and thanks for the help.

  4. @Paul P thanks for the info. From previous experience I think the end of the 986 drain is "exposed". Suppose it was re-routed on the 987 then? Never took the liner out, can imagine loads of brittle clips and screws that break as soon as you look at them!!

  5. FYI I do know all about keeping the drain holes clear. I got caught out on my first Boxster when I didn't know about the potential drain issues, the rear passenger drain blocked and I had to have a new control unit. On my 3rd Boxster now and I religious keep them clean, I inspect after every wash remove any debris and flush with clean water. I even check the carpets every time it's left out in the rain. So I was gutted after it was left out overnight in heavy rain (not usual) I did my carpet check and found the drivers side soaked, was very relived to find the passenger side bone dry. I quickly got my handheld wet/dry vacume and removed 3 litres of water. Blocked drain was the obvious thought, so hood into service position and some stiffish wire but no joy. I practiced on passenger side and wire went all the way through no problem. I have now prodded and poked for at least 2 hours and it's still blocked, in fact I think I have made it worse, I reckon. Whatever is in there is properly rammed in, maybe a stone?

Not sure what to do next, thinking I might try and get in on the local garage ramp to see if I can go the other way, but any tips would be greatfully recived. Thanks

  6. My 987s has got perfect timing, it's going to my local indie for a major service tomorrow and the coolant guide housing sprang a leak today. The pipes have been changed fairly recently so not too worried about them but does anyone know what sort of cost I can expect (additional to the service) . Cheers.

  7. Got a 987.1 s manual, as I went to turn it off today the key came out while the engine was still running. Managed to put it back in and turn it off.

Had similar issues with my 986 a few years ago that turned out to be a worn ignition switch. Was a easy fix though,  a VW Passat part fitted  and the key barrel was ok so didn't have to change the blade.

Anyone had a similar problem and got any tips. Don't want to change the key blade if possible. Cheers.

  8. It's insurance renewal time and no surprise it's gone up around 6%. I use my boxster as a 2nd car on a classic limited mileage policy of 3k miles. This is my 3rd boxster and have used either Adrian Flux or Footman James for all of them (normally bounce between them to keep the price competitive). This time Footman seems best value but I'm in no doubt that classic car policy costs seem to be increasing faster than my daily drive policy. A few years ago my classic policy was around 40% cheaper than my daily but this year for the first time my daily will be cheaper. Anyone else finding this or found a reasonable priced classic policy. FYI I have a clean license and no accidents.

  9. After a few months of intermittent dripping and an advisory of a leak on the mot it's gone in for all new coolant pipes. Popped in garage to have a quick noisey, although the metal cross pipes didn't look great there was only 1 pipe that showed signs of leaking, rest looked "ok". I am happy they are all being replaced though as I have had coolant loss anxiety🤥
