  1. Went from delaminating headlights to like-new headlights. Having attempted the lens replacement job myself on a previous Boxster, want to give a shout out to Neil from RENNLENS who does the job at a very reasonable cost and to the highest quality. Sent my headlights to him on Monday, got them back on Friday, top job.

Just be warned, the ride with full X73 kit is ever so slightly stiffer. Great for traction in the twisties but a bit less comfort on the UK roads. My GTS had it fitted from factory and it's a little bit of a harsher ride compared to the standard suspension on the S that preceded it. Still a good mod IMO as gives the car a much nicer stance and better handling when pushing on.

It is used to suppress vibration caused by noise - it is not designed to reduce noise.

    There is a difference.

For sure the adhesive bitumen (trade name Dynomat) will slightly reduce noise, however a lightweight foam will often reduce noise better.  Even Thinsulate (used as insulation in your winter coats) is a better noise silencer.

Unless you are watching any TV program from America that involves rebuilding a car - then they cover the whole interior in the stuff unnecessarily.  for example a 2" square will stop a gong/symbol from vibrating any sound. But that wont stop them sticking 20+ kg of the stuff everywhere.

Yup - reducing vibrations is what it's made for. I put it inside the doors just to give a bit more foundation for the door speakers, hoping for a slight improvement in sound quality. It is recommend covering at least 20-25% of the panel to achieve proper damping effect, so covering the whole car is definitely an overkill! 😃

Is Dynamat an effective way of reducing noise? If so, where else can it be applied to a Boxster?

Some people were lining the wall behind the rear carpets and inside the wheel arches with more appropriate materials to reduce engine / road noise but don't really get the point of doing that in a Boxster tbh...

It’s been seen in other car types and that includes other Porsche offerings.

And yet there's still no indication that Porsche are willing to resolve this. I think some folks in the US have had luck claiming replacements under warranty, of course USA being more litigious country, but even then the stories seem to be more miss than hit.

Has anyone had a go at replacing the lenses with parts available from Aliexpress and Ebay? I've done a swap on a spare headlight after the OPC cracked it on a previous car, it was a bit involved so not had the courage to attempt it on the current car given potential cost of mistake.

So we (its actually my 74 year old dad buying it) went to RPM on Saturday. What a place. Had a full tour and the workshops are something else. Saw a 959 engine in rebuild, too many GT2/3’s to count, a 918, tons of exotic and custom or race 911’s. Their stock is ridiculous!

Anyhow, agreed the sale. The GTS is gorgeous. The headers are almost stock until in Sport/Sport plus and then it just sounds wonderful. A perfect combo. Lack of GTS interior is personal taste I guess, but the two tone is stunning, luxurious but sporty. Zunsport grills, spyder brakes and some nice options make it a special car. My dad is going to have some fun in that car. He has an XK at the moment, had a 987S before and wanted back in a Boxster. He couldn’t have found a nicer one for the spec he was after.

Thanks to the current owner (on the forum) for answering his questions and giving him the confidence to pull the trigger. The car will be cherished!

Very classy spec, I have no doubt your dad will enjoy driving it.

  6. Having moved from S to GTS, the GTS is a nicer car. The Alcantara trim and bits of carbon elevate the interior nicely, and the GTS front bumper gives it better styling IMO.

With that being said, I expect the GTS to depreciate the same if not more than the S given the current pricing deltas. It is a very nice car but very unlikely to be perceived the same way as GT products, so expect a normal depreciation curve.

I’d still buy a GTS though, residuals have nothing to do with it 😄

  7. Very nice result! As others have noted, a little lowering with X73 or wheel offset with spacers would do wonders. I would also add the standard Porsche badges on the rear boot and paint the hoops gloss black. These are all small details, the car looks stunning as is.

  8. Fantastic colour! Looking forward to seeing it in all the trim 👍🏻👍🏻 What are you thinking around the alloys? Keep em black or switch to silver? I think either would look stunning!

  9. Had my car booked in for 111 check to get it on extended warranty. Agreed to deal with the recall at the same time. Booked in around mid-October for last Monday, all done within a couple of days, including a couple of small issues identified through the check. The service adviser mentioned they’ve dealt with a few now and the recall job alone can be done in about a day.

Thanks 👍.  Well I was hoping you guys can help me with that.

I guess option 1 is to retrofit it but it's additional cost and probably unnecessary in my climate and it adds more weight.

Option 2 is to blank it out and use mesh to hide it and make it look aesthetically pleasing.

Option 3 is to install the trim without the radiator and some mesh, the bumper has the vents already and I have the trim piece on order for the gap underneath.

    Thoughts welcome?

Personally, I would go for Option 3. There's always an option of adding a third radiator down the line.

  11. Sport Chrono adds a Sport Plus button. It makes the mapping even more responsive and PDK now shifts on redline, so not something overly practical for road use. It also adds dynamic engine mounts (a common fail point, £1.5k to replace), launch control (who knows how much the previous owner abused it) and a clock. Admittedly the clock is a nice touch.

On the balance I would go for an OPC car with the warranty than a Sport Chrono.
