  1. I suppose circumstances often dictate when we sell our 986’s. Mine is an early 2.5 as it was when it left the factory. So I reckon it's part of Porsche History. Spent more than the cars worth. Just had to replace the clutch, so IMS and oil seal done as well on 97000. The car is used on a regular basis to keep the oils flowing. But heres the crunch, I’m now 81 years old but can still jack the car up and do lots of jobs myself. My daughter also loves the car and drives it regularly and wants me to leave it to her in my will ! So it wont be going anywhere at the moment . By the way an interesting topic.

  2. I had the same problem as you. The car came with a loud Sports Box with a terrible drone. Then tried an ebay one but then failed the next MOT. So in the end I

bit the bullet and went for a Dansk 986 standard sound S/S sports box which I am very pleased with. It did cost £1229 though but well worth it.

  3. I’m finding the gear change has become stiff when changing gear into first and reverse . it's not a clutch problem as that has been change. Is there any way of lubricating the

cables? Any help would be much appreciated.

  4. I’m trying to get the wing mirrors to adjust using the adjustment switch which I have replaced. There seems to be no power getting to the switch. The fuze is OK so i’m wondering

there’s a relay that might be the problem. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

  5. Hello Everyone,

I’m still having problems with the windows not lowering when opening the top. As I’ve mentioned the micro switch in the opening latch has been replaced and still no luck.

I wonder if anyone has any idea where to go next. The windows do drop when opening the door.

  6. I'm in idiot mode. I have always thought that you had to press the clutch to start my 99 Boxster . So my first thought was it must be the clutch switch . I then spent

a painful half hour under the dash only to find there isn't a clutch switch on my car . So you were all correct and I am now fitting an ignition switch . Many thanks to all

for pointing me in the right direction.

  7. The hood is sitting flush with the plastic frame and I have been able to pull the hood closed. But before this occurred the hood went up to the top and could be latched in

with ease. There must be an adjustment somewhere.

  8. The Hood has suddenly decided not to go fully up. Finishes with about an inch or so from the top. The dash hood light does go out indicate the hood is fully up. What do I have to do

Adjust the hood so it will fully close?

  9. I had a problem firing up this morning. Turned the key and all the dash lights OK. Pressed the clutch to the floor, turned the key to start and nothing happened . No click or anything.

I waited for a bit then tried again and no luck. Pushed the clutch up and down a few times and it started. In case there is future problem does anyone know if there is a sensor or any

other reason why this should have happened?

  10. Hi,

I am in the same situation as you in that I have to lock and unlock with my key. The previous owner must have un plugged the siren but when unlocking the hazard warning lights start flashing so I have to put the key in the  ignition and turn to stop the lights. For some reason I also have to unlock the passenger door from the inside. I put up with this due to the cost of getting the key fob reprogrammed .

  11. I had a Mazda MK5 Mk 1 which I swapped for a 1999 2.5 Boxster just over a year ago. The Mazda was a fantastic car and I owned it for 7 years. But I think the Porsche

Boxster is a step up and I wouldn't change back to an MX5. It has been an expensive year putting it in shape but well worth it. There have been lots of interest shown in the

early cars especially after the 25 Anniversary of the Porsche Boxster and they may very well start to go up in price over the next few years . I would go for it , well worth it.

  12. I have the same emissions problem as you and an MOT failure. It has been traced back to the original back box which has leak somewhere but hard to find. Ive had to put back on a sports exhaust that I had and removed because to the drone noise problem. Due for a retest this morning hope that's it. As a matter of interest what type of back box do you have and do you have a noise problem
