  1. So, had the new screen fitted Friday.

The wind noise is totally eradicated and back to how it should be.

Guy who did it said that he tried to refit the first one and wasn't happy with it.

Fitted another new screen (pilkingtons) and said it slotted straight in perfectly.

The first screen must of been warped in some way.

Anyway Boxster is back to its former glory and having a screen that's not 17 years old makes a massive difference. It's like driving in HD now haha.

Can't fault National Windscreens for there service.

  2. Guy who fitted it was really sound. Went back he was very apologetic and said he will get it sorted.

He will order a new screen and replace if needs be. Going back in 10 days for a refit.

    Fingers crossed.

Recently went through this with National Windscreens.  I asked for, and the insurer agreed, to replace with OEM glass (Aviva).

Took 3 attempts before it was finally fitted properly on the 4th.

1st - didn't fit properly, very obvious height gaps almost like it wasn't the correct glass (ie looking at the top edge it was low in the middle and high on each side).  New glass required.

2nd - fit looked fine but the mirror was loose.  As it has rain sensors this meant it had to be new glass.

3rd - didn't fit properly at all so the installer removed it and reinstalled the original glass, advised that it would need to be taken to the centre.

4th - took to the centre and they reinstalled the 3rd glass and fit is fine.

Overall, despite the hassle, I can't really fault National Windscreens as they saw the job through until I was satisfied.

Sorry, this probably doesn't inspire confidence!

Just had my screen done here. It looks good and seems to be uniform however  Terrible wind noise along the top.

Tried calling them but now can't get through. So I've spoken to there main office.

  4. Any one had a screen replaced? Is it easy enough on the Boxster?

Anything I should be looking for when it's been replaced?

I also have a aftermarket Dab Ariel on my current screen can this be replaced?

    Cheers.

  5. For sure I had the disconnected vent hose.

Pushed it together and put a screw through it for good measure.

Rattle now all gone. Untill I pick up on the next one haha.

  6. Yearly changes and although I've done 5k this year. When my daily arrives after all the delays. It's probably going to be under 3k a year with new oil every year.

I seen recently some one recommending a thicker oil for older cars, but I can't remember where I seen it.

  7. I know it's been asked alot. So I'm sorry for asking aging.

    I have a 2005 2.7 with 115k miles on.

What's the best oil option for me to use and what volume does the engine take?

    Many thanks.

  8. So my car has recently developed a rattle inside the dash board.

It's on the passenger side above the cup holders.

I've emptied the glove box and removed the cup holders, it's still there. Almost like something is loose inside the dash.

    Any ideas?

How do I get inside that part of rh dash for a feel around?

    Cheers.

  9. What most people frown upon, I added weight, put sound deadening Dynamat in the doors.

Was fixing the missing seals romprevent wet door carpet, so while I was there I added in the sound proofing.

Doors sound a little better now when shutting. No longer have that tinr rattle to them.

  10. Took off the door card to check the inner seal as the door carpets have been getting wet in heavy rain.

Turns out the previous owner had used what looks like white tack or putty to make a seal, it was lumpy and bumpy. Scraped it all back and applied a bead of silicone, hopefully that will do the job for now.

Assuming you have correct tyre pressures and tyres are not ancient, has it only recently started doing it or done it for a while? Did it start doing it after the rear arms were changed? If so, was any rear geo done after they were changed?

You say tracking was done, did that only adjust the front geometry? Maybe this having been changed has made the rear stability worse and more noticeable? Full 4 wheel alignment at someone with a hunter setup and experience of the Boxster might be a good idea

Sorry, it was a full 4 wheel alignment that I had done.

look for the date code, a 4 digit number in format WWYY, so 3715 is week 37 of 2015.
Tell us the brand as well, for curiosity.

Fallen FK510 they are. I will check the date.

  13. Hello all,

I've noticed the Boxster is losing rear grip quite quickly.

I've had mainly rear driven cars and previous Caymans (718)

How ever I've found that the box is stepping out fairly easily at around 30 mph. I've noticed this a few times now.

This I find unusual as I've never experienced it before.

What would the culprit be? My first thoughts is tyres, plenty of tread but not sure on the age.

The tracking has been done recent rear trailing arms changed and new sway bar bushings.

    It's an 05 car with 110k on.

    Any advice?

I've seen some where it's said they'll fit either and some where they specifically say that it fits one and not the other. Someone on here pointed out that on some the bolt holes to the header are slotted which implies that there are two different pipe diameters.

    This hasn't helped has it?

    Haha it helped a little.

Today I fitted an exhaust from a 3.4 to a 2.7 so I assume from that there all the same. But who knows.

I feel your pain. This happened to mine and in trying to get it off I managed to hit myself in the face with a breaker bar. In the end - like you - I had to cut it off... Which is difficult given the lack of space/access

Yeah mine was the driver's side luckily there is less pipe work on that side. But still very tight. Especially laying on your back.

I've had to put a normal but bolt and washer on there at the moment as the Porsche locking plate is on backorder.

I've managed to get it to the right torque setting and it's the correct size bolt etc. So hopefully it will be okay.

  16. Changed the rear trailing arms on my 987 today.

What an absolute pig it was. Ended up having to cut the front bolt off with a recip saw. It was just spinning and the position of the top nut makes it almost impossible to get any kind of spanner on it.

It had come apart from the clip that holds it. Or Nut lock as P call it.

4 hours to free one arm.

Now I've had to order a bolt nut and a new locking plate from D911. So the cars off the road.

The other side was off and on in 30 mins.

  17. Hello all, currently have 19" on my 987 with the normal 235/35/19 and 265/35/19 tyres on.

    I'm wondering if 18" from a 981 or 718 would fit with 235/45/18 265/35/18 tyres?

Any one any experience doing this?

    Thanks.

I hadn't thought about it to be honest, not sure what they're worth?? My cars only done 39000 miles and they are in great condition though.

    I could be tempted.

Not sure. But I wouldn't mind upgrading mine from the big single one.

This may help.... i recently removed all of the trim to spray it and found that when i refitted the cupholders, they went in alot flusher and straighter then when fitted at factory, 2 allen screws inside the glovebox , just remove and slide the whole unit out, also note that the "fascia" part of it clips off which allows good access to all the working parts , that may give you an idea of what has failed, if anything.

    Hope this helps.

    Si.

It's the facia that's not closing fully. The actual cup holders work fine.
