Washed and waxed the car ready for our trip to see Gert at Carnewal at the weekend…😁😁

Got the car MOT’d. Flew through with no advisories, and even got some compliments from the tester. Apparently most 18 year old cars don’t present as well as this! 😁

That looks absolutely gorgeous! Great colour choice, can’t wait to see the rebuild now!

Everyone takes the wee out of these until they fit one. Great toy.
I love mine, first mod I did when I bought mine!

Could you tell us a bit more about the process, Adrian. I'm looking to do this in the summer on my car and a friend's 911.
I used this guide as a start, but didn’t drain the whole system, just the front half. Happy to go through more detail if you need?

If you took a few more pics whilst doing it, may be do a write up for the How To section? @Adrian Reeve
I’ll take a few more pics and do a write up, although I just copied someone else’s write up!

Made a start on the crossover pipes. Fiddly but not difficult, about 2 hours to get everything out, now need to clean it all up before putting it back together again!

Thanks, will go through this today.

Do you guys regularly lubricate the mechanism(s) ?
Have owned the car less than a year, so I haven’t yet, but looking yesterday, there is some white lithium grease on the mechanism, and it all moves freely.

Also true. I’ll have another look tomorrow.

are there rubber grommets that are on the underside of the clamshell?
IIRC on a 987 the front bonnet has some and they are not symetrical so if twisted 180 degrees protrude more
I may be talking b*ll*cks though and/or the rear clamshell could be different anyway
There are, but as the clamshell eventually ends up in the right place, I don’t think an adjustment is needed. I actually think Boxob’s explanation above makes sense.

Is it both sides ? Hard to tell from the photo.
Start with the accessible stuff, stick the roof in the service position and check the condition of the push rods (i.e. make sure they are not bent and are in the right position/end cap is intact and aligned).
Push rod is shown as item 4 on here... https://www.design911shop.com/p/roof-top-push-rod-porsche-987-boxster_2_2_2_2_2_2_2_2_2_2_2_2_2_2_2_2_2_2/?currency=GBP&gclid=Cj0KCQiA0oagBhDHARIsAI-BbgfkCW1Ocy5esZaSMQa_M2oFwG1ErllXZGZ8XboLBXlcaqghhSMMMpAaAgBQEALw_wcB#fancybox-623431-4
Beyond that its roof motor, cable or roof transmisions.
Maybe it would help to get someone to sit in the car and operate the roof whilst you look at the business end to help zero in ?
Thanks, yes it’s both sides, so evenly across the whole clamshell. Rods and joints replaced 2 years ago and all perfect. No weird noises or motions, so I’m leaning towards an obstruction I haven’t seen yet or cable adjustment. I’ll update if I find anything.
Cheers

Does the clamshell issue occur with the roof up ?
No it doesn’t, so given that it only happens when the roof is down, and settles into the correct position after a short travel distance, I’m guessing it must be the hood not fully retracting, and the vibration from driving is enough to settle it into the correct position. Does that sound reasonable? If so, any idea what could be causing that? Cheers

@Adrian Reeve a quick check is to half open the top and check that the rain channel across the back of the fabric is properly clipped into place on the rear panel. If it is loose it can get caught up when the top is closed and prevent the clamshell going down fully.
Thanks, did check earlier, and it wasn’t. I clipped it back in place, but still the same result. Just been out for a drive, and by the time I’d got back, the clamshell had settled into the right position - weird!

Thanks, can you tell me how to post an image please? According the How To, I just copy the Imgur link into the post and it’s supposed to embed the image, but it just puts the link in?
Cheers

Good afternoon all, I’ve got a new issue. When I put the hood down yesterday, I noticed that the clamshell no longer sits completely flush. The car thinks it’s down, no lights on the dash. If I press gently on the hood itself, it moves down slightly, and the clamshell moves with it, to an almost normal closed position (but not quite). When the hood is up, the clamshell sits exactly as it should. Any ideas would be welcome!

Not the worst decision to have to make…
Both are lovely, my personal slight preference is the red, think the tobacco looks great on an early 911/912, but I think that the red accentuates the curves better on the 356. Your car, your choice, it’ll look amazing in either colour!

@timbobalobox, is there a build guide available? I built several kit cars before being tempted into Porsche ownership, but your build is definitely tempting me back in!

Bought a proper drying cloth - game changer! Can’t believe I didn’t get one years ago, been suffering with water marks from using a chamois - should have read the Washing and cleaning forum before now…. 😁😁

Taught my son how to change the oil, and fixed my rattly wind deflector - easy but satisfying things ticked off my to do list!

I recently bought some of these from Mtec, along with some OEM Textar pads for the front of mine, very happy so far. I bought some zinc spray from Screwfix to paint the bell of the disc so it won’t rust.
-
Morning all, I’ll need to replace front discs and pads soon. Having a quick look around, M-tec keep appearing - has anyone used them, and are they ok, or better to stick to Brembo, Texar, Ate etc.?
Real world experience of them would be good, if anyone has used them.
Cheers

Thanks everyone
Who has a throttle controller gizmo and willing to share experiences?

I have a Sprint Booster on my 2.7 and love it! Throttle response is crisper, in a way that I can’t replicate just by mashing my foot to the floor without it fitted. I got mine for less than £100 second hand on eBay, so not a big investment. Where are you? If you’re anywhere near Gravesend in Kent, I’ll happily take you out for a spin and you can make your own mind up! Cheers
