  1. Just fitted Nighteye LED dipped beam bulbs. Very happy. The fitting was a doddle and the beam, to my eyes, is far better, much brighter, whiter and seemingly better illumination, whilst still giving a nice sharp cutoff and no dazzling.

Problem now is that high beam appears irritatingly yellow.

Has anyone found a good LED lamp, H9 I believe, that fits into the 987 headlight allowing the rear plate to be fitted, that gives a nice clear white light?

  2. I had the “noddy” horn when I bought the car. Bought a used low frequency horn and switched over, now perfect. For me it was a bumper off job, which, if you follow the various instruction videos, is quite simple. Gives the opportunity for condenser clean out too. When working correctly, the horn is more than adequate

  3. Great write up, mirrors many of my own experiences of two years ownership in my 2005 2.7, (also a serial bmw driver before this) except not yet addressed the exhaust. Not sure where in midlands you are, but I’m in Tamworth, be great to meet up for a coffee and share some experiences if you fancy. Drop me a pm if interested.

  4. Just finished fitting new front bump stops, top mounts and drop links and on refitting the n/s wheel, noticed the clearance between the inner side of the tyres and the bottom plate where the coil sits is really tight. I used the previous marks on the shock tube to set the shock into the hub, but it seems close. The dealer had fit new springs before I bought it so not sure if he set it correctly. I reckon there is 10mm max clearance. Both sides the same

I guess the gap is fixed and the car drives fine but would appreciate comparisons please…

Replaced original steering wheel with Royal retrimmed one. Looks and feels brill. Delighted with it.

Highly recommend getting this done if you're wheel has got that old shiney appearance.

I can’t say enough about RSW. For a relatively small cost, they are able to transform the wheel and gear interface, which itself improves the driver experience so much. Great value for money

  6. Removed the rear lights and bumper yesterday for a poke around and clean. The carpet flaps that cover the rear lights inside the boot are secured with plastic nuts on the threaded studs in the rear panel. Of the four fixings, I had one of one type, two of another and a fourth missing. The pic below shows the larger one of one and smaller one of two. The small ones are nasty and hard to remove, whereas the larger one is easy to finger tighten. Can anyone advise which should be standard and  where I might get some new ones from?

  7. I bought my first boxster in July last year. First tried to sift through online ads for cars within my spec, a 2.7 base 987. When I had a shortlist, checked service and mot history. It’s astonishing how so many fully serviced cars are sent for mot with recurring advisories and how enthusiasts can send a car with bald tyres and shot brakes. Eventually had a shortlist of cars to see. These had a broad range of specs, as I was buying in condition. Eventually settled in an Arctic silver 2.7 manual. Simple spec, but fabulous history. Some stone chips, but all been had attended too, another sign of previous care and attention. PZero tyres needing replacement on age. Wheels unmarked.

Got it home and washed it all over, then a bad misfire, coil packs shot. Simple fix. Replaced the hood elastic, hood all good. Eventually swapped the tyres for a set of pilot sports. I had the steering wheel, gear knob etc re-trimmed, plus complete covers off detailing and I now feel I have a beautiful car. Did a full service, oil, filters, belt, plugs etc. Now drives a dream, plenty quick enough for now.

only regret, no heated seats, but can live with that

For me, it’s all about condition. There are loads out there, but many are rough. And use the mot checker, it’s invaluable.

  8. I did mine as it was quite worn and a bit thin. Royal did my mx5 wheel too so I knew what to expect and wasn’t disappointed.

This time though I had the gear knob, gear gaitor and handbrake trim done at the same time. Now it’s all perfectly matched to the sea blue trim, looking fantastic and feeling lovely, great job RSW…..

The only thing that threw me was the AC pipes don’t run along the middle? Only coolant pipes?

Water may be running across the plastic cover, hence where it appears might just be a function of how level the car is parked. For piece of mind, if you fancy it, take the under covers off and you should see how it has tracked. Also worth a clean up of the underside without the covers. Easy enough to do with ramps.

  10. Had same problem. You can unclip the whole connector from the car giving more access then it’s easier to separate. I took a while working it out, but then once done, it’s pretty simple. Watch that it’s reconnected correctly as mine wasn’t and it threw codes for failed bulbs, I hadn’t fully engaged it

  11. Got 4 x PS4’s back in may from ATS for £590 all in. First quote was about £690, but when I challenged that, was offered the “online” price. Also got a free Karcher compact pressure washer direct from Michelin. And yes, they are superb tyres.

bargain's are out there with ATS, but need to press them to get creative….

  12. Just replaced a set of 2015 Pirelli p-zero that were on the car when I bought it, that were clearly hard, with lots of small cracking around the edges. New pilot sport 4 fitted all around. The difference is substantial. The rubber is clearly softer and the grip limits improved massively, but also as mentioned earlier, the ride is way better, absorbing a lot of the smaller bumps.

  13. All sound similar to how mine operates. On full blast on a cold day it kind of works. Mrs H needs a blanket though. Hi, full blast, yes it’s ok. I’m wondering if the air con will be effective with climate, or again, needs to be on lo and full blast.

I need to get it on a durametric / PIWIS to check the front fog light operation, so as well to get the sensors checked too I guess

  14. New set of PS4’s fitted yesterday and the air con recharged. Really pleased it held pressure after I replaced condensers, o rings etc. now blows nice and cold.

Now I have correctly functioning heater and air con, it makes me consider if the climate control is working correctly. Over the winter in the cold, with roof down of course, we have struggled to get real heat from the system. On full, it blows warm, but when set to say auto at 22 degrees, it’s barely noticeable. My old mx5 was furnace like in comparison. I have read about cabin temp sensor failure that can create problems with the climate control, but mostly concerning 986. I also read that a 987 heater should also be very effective.

So, looking for views about heater performance on base. 987.1. Should I be able use climate control with roof off? Could there be some issue with temp sensor? If so, seems there are two, which to look at? All comments appreciated.

  15. Car has 7 year old Pirelli P Zero fitted that are cracking up and hard, so time for some new rubber. Pretty much settled on pilot sport 4. Current tyres are 265/35/18 rear and 235/40/18 front. Is it correct for lower profile on the rear? Everything I read suggests should be 40 profile front and rear, but tyre firms seem happy that the rear is only 35 and suggest I replace like with like, retaining the difference. I feel their advice is a little generic, so what do the experts recommend!
