To test it I entered the wrong VIN, they have come back to tell me VIN is incorrect, I’ve now sent the correct VIN

I think I will be doing the same soon. When are you planning on getting it coded in?

    Sounds positive then. Fingers crossed.

The code has nothing to do with the physical part. It is based purely on the VIN.

When you buy the kit from Porsche, it comes with a voucher code.  The voucher code is entered into the Porsche system, along with the VIN, and it outputs the activation code. It also records the code on their records of the build data of your car on their system.

The Russian supplied codes are generated by a key generator which uses the same algorithm as the Porsche system, but doesn't need the voucher, and obviously doesn't record the vehicle data with Porsche.

    Thanks for the info, Richard.

9Apart has enquired and is waiting to hear back from Germany, AAIU. So I think there is some hope there. Failing that, looks like it will be a case of trying the Russian method...

as per the post re tequilment price.  This is what test advertise.  If it was me I would be trying to understand the gap.

This is what I had on this from Porsche:

'Please see attached quote for parts the Price of £327 is for the basic module with the basic spec of vehicle.

Yours is listing as having the option of headlamp washers (meaning the part is not the basic module.)

This would take the same time to fit and code as the 987, 1.5hrs.

Unfortunately the 981 will not fall under the same Classic category as the 987 and the labour will be £246.00 inc vat (per hour)

So you will be looking at a labour cost of £369.00 plus the cost of the parts £410.26,

Giving a total fitted and coded price of  £779.26.'

If only.  It isn't as simple as just entering the activation code.

Get him to download the relevant Technical Bulletin from PCSS.  That shows the coding process.

I think he’s basically done everything bar inputting the activation code.

That’s good to know.  And worth a conversation for sure.

I have a quote in writing. It’s £410 for the part plus the labour. They won’t use the part I have.

waiting for 9Apart to get back to me, they think they may be able to get a code for the part they supplied.

In the past, I have bought probably 20+ codes from him and never had any problems.

As for the procedure, I'm reluctant to pass on my hard earned knowledge to a company who are going to charge you to use it!

That's good to know about the codes.

Reece at MLR sounds confident that all he needs is the activation code and it will be set up.

Once the code is obtained, is there a time limit to use it?

Keep me in the loop on this please

Here is my WhatsApp exchange with him:

[07:46, 18/04/2024] Paul: Hi. Do you still do activation codes for Porsche?
    [08:01, 18/04/2024] Sergey: Hello
    [08:01, 18/04/2024] Sergey: Yes I am
[08:07, 18/04/2024] Paul: I made an enquiry through your website yesterday.
[08:36, 18/04/2024] Sergey: We have no website
[08:39, 18/04/2024] Paul: Oh, okay. How does your procedure work and what would be the charge for getting an activation code for cruise control on the car with VIN WP0ZZ******* Thanks.
    [08:40, 18/04/2024] Sergey: 100$
    PayPal
[08:44, 18/04/2024] Paul: Okay. What's the procedure, and how do I know it will work?
[08:45, 18/04/2024] Sergey: All my code are 100% working

I called MLR and all they need is the activation number. So I now have to decide whether to take a chance and send this complete stranger $100!.

I have his mobile number if you want to message him. Drop me a PM if you want it.

I have contacted him via WhatsApp and he says he is still doing codes. I am waiting to hear back with more info.

In the meantime, Richard, can you please elaborate a bit on what you said 'there is a specific routine for entering the activation code, and coding all the relevant modules. Make sure they know it before they start, otherwise you'll be disappointed.'

Is this a procedure I need to know to give to the person using the PIWIS?

    Thanks in advance.

Personally I would want any Indy that took on “coding it” to finish the job. Especially since it seems that people have been a bit misled on what was required.

by the time the bits have been sourced second hand and fitted and then coding and the 100 euros for the activation it starts to look like 400 to 500 quid all in at an opc is comparable in price.

Porsche Chester quoted me £780 all in.

  10. My current situation is that I now have a cruise control unit fitted into my car which is a brick. I need to spend £400 with Porsche to get the same unit from them to get a code. So I am very tempted by that code site if it is going to work. I have messaged them and asked if they have some reviews I can read...

  11. 1 minute ago, Paul P said:

Yup - but its not a new thing that the 981 onwards needs an activation code - that's what I mean - it shouldn't be a surprise to an indy - it's been fact since they rolled off the production line in 2012. The fact that a "back door" operation is in play means that you can't simply ask an OPC nicely.

Something seems to have changed. The indy was genuinely surprised by it.

  12. Just now, Paul P said:

He charges about £100 for the code as far as I remember - I know folks who have bought 987.2 PCM Map codes from him,  given he's ( I think ) is based in Russia - then perhaps he's still actually in business perhaps not , and (reaching for my tinfoil to make a new hat) - sending bank transfers to dodgy people in russia might be a bad idea right now... pays your money, takes your chances, looks out for the black helicopters.

With reference to OP - would have thought indy would have known about the activation code requirement before hand - it shouldn't come as a surprise.

The indy has coded many cars successfully before, but it seems Porsche is implementing this change from the 981 onwards. He's fitted and coded the hardware to my car, but it seems there is no way of getting the activation code from Porsche. If that website works, I'd be tempted. I'd feel better having heard from someone who has used it without issues if there is anyone around here who has.

I spoke with the Service manager about 2 months ago and that’s what he quoted me?!!

I think things have changed. It seems they will no longer give out an activation code unless the part has been supplied by an OPC.

I got mine coded for free as they could not activate OPC Wilmslow want £80 to activate it

I spoke with Wilmslow today and they don't think they can do it.

They will , I retro fitted mine , had it coded at a independent, however they could not make it work ,because it requires another code from Porsche to ignite it ( activation code ), contacted OPC Wilmslow who want £80 for doing it , so mine is fitted and loaded but not activated yet , as I have yet got round to doing it

Had my used CC stalks fitted yesterday at an indy. He was unable to code it. I am trying to get this sorted out today, but the latest is that to get the required activation code, I have to buy the part new from Porsche at £400...I will update.

You need to host them somewhere like Imgur and then link to them. Storage is very limited on here.

Tell us more about your new car, manual?

Yes, a manual S in aqua blue. I’ve linked to the ad from Pembury Cars who sold it to the guy I bought it from. He did 4000 miles in it in the two years he had it and it still looks as good as it does in those pictures.

I’ve bought cruise control stalks on eBay and I’m looking to have that fitted and coded. Next job I think will be getting CarPlay fitted, probably to the existing screen.

I’m loving it so far. It feels and looks really special.

  17. I've bought the stalk unit to retrofit cruise control on my new 981 Boxster S 2012. Just wondering if anyone here has the means to code it in? Porsche refuses to code a second-hand part. I'm based in the West Midlands.
