Hi, I’m looking to renew the front brake lines on my 987.1 but can’t really find any useful guides or even diagrams. I presume each line is a single piece from the ABS module to the wheel well? Could do with knowing how they route - has anyone done this recently?

    TIA

I recently did mine while I did the cross over pipes.

the passenger side is straight forward, I bought the line direct from Porsche for not much money.

the driver’s side is a lot harder. As I did mine with the sub frame down and the coolant pipes out it was fine. I’d say you probably can’t do it with removing the sub frame. Which isn’t that difficult to be honest.

Glad you are enoying the vids so far guys.  Will be posting more on this forum shortly. It's good to be back in a Boxster!  Neil

Looking forward to see how you get on with the ims. I’m hoping to do mine this summer!

also, how did you stop brake fluid from dripping out of the brake lines when you did the repairs? I’m guessing you drained the dot fluid out of the tank? If so did that make it harder to bleed?

From what I understand the 987.1 only has an oil pressure switch, not transmitter.
Someone more knowledgable may correct me though.

you can read the oil temp live with icarsoft, it would be very handy to have it displayed on the dash.

My new ball joint splitter made by Neilsen. much better than my previous one. This one has a longer thinner section that allows you to get it inbetwee the arm and the rubber much better

Sadly the ball joint didn't play game

    IMG_5275

So damn awkward to get the ball joint splitter in there so ended up cutting the arm off, then straight in and popped out no prob

    wow!

ye i found the same, i have a fork and i couldn't get it in there due to how the hub gets in the way.

good job getting it out buddy!

So how did it go? Just wondered as I've just had very similar issues with my 987.2 S 🙂

it took it to a different MOT centre, a friend recommended them. i took it for an hour long drive, filled up with esso 99.

i asked them to test the emissions first. the garage said that it passed on tick over but was still reading high on the higher rpm but it was just close enough to pass.

come summer i'll have a look at the exhaust and replace the triangle gasket i think.

👍It's surprising how often "reciprocating saw" rears it's ugly head when working on Porsche suspension 😂. Thanks for the heads up. I'm sure I've one stashed somewhere which I've used for branch cutting, might just have to source the appropiate blade.

yep! I was going to be fine with a grinder but it wasn't to be. one thing to watch when using the recip is thet the plastic cross over coolant pipe is just behind the bolt you are cutting. I just put a piece of metal there to stop me from puncturing it as i've not long changed them :D

Thanks for that. Spyder are actually at the higher end of the market where I'm looking 😂, Ebay and the like. They've got a 10% off offer till end of the month so working out at £213 for the pair collected as they are local to me. Any advice on the removal and fitting? Will a wheel alignment check be required? I know the fronts are out slightly but the coolant cross-over pipes also need doing so was going to wait till that was done. Got 2 new fronts to go on once all completed. 🙂

I've just replaced my front control arms, i went with spyder.

they are fine to do, the main problem is the bolt that attaches the coffin arm to the sub frame. i had to cut both sides off with a reciprocating saw ( i bought one for this job) i did try and try without but i couldn't see any other way. the rest of it is fine.

so you will need replacement bolts for the ones you cut.

Technically not difficult but very labour intensive and you'll need the right tools. Check out 'Burner's Cars' on Youtube the 987 is very similar (not identical but close) - he did it on axle stands as I did. To do anything with the IMS you'll need a special tool to lock the cams/TDC etc and remove the chain tensioner. As mentioned above you'll need to get the exhaust off first which was a royal pain for me with all the rusted bolts and clamps all of which needed replacing on mine! I did a little write up here - apologies I do not know how to link things on the board

nice, doesn't sound that bad at all, was getting the gear box off ok as well?

I had 2 quotes last year (Clutch/DMF/RMS) for my 2.7 987.1, £1,200 and £2,000(!) - that's what you get for being in Surrey - needless to say I did it myself for about £550 and I also did the IMS flange seal which few people mention but would be a good thing to include

how hard did you find it? was the IMS tricky to do?

    Eh ?

I'm seeing numbers of £500 all in for Porsche parts including labour and at least one person saying £450 just for the Porsche bits.

Think my 987.2 was costed out on paper at about 1K when it had it's done as part of pre-prep, subframe was dropped and alignment done in it's case (yeah I know not everyone drops the subframe).

ye just checked a little over £460 and that was the best price I could find direct from porsche. I didn't do the plastic ones either.

  11. I did my cross over pipes around 3 months ago on the 987.1 after lots of good advice on this forum.

its really not as bad as it looks, i did it on axle stands on the drive i also did the brake hardline as they cross through the gap between the cab and the fronk.

id say most garages would be able to do it easy enough.

the parts came to around £450.

  12. just an update, i have another mot on monday with a local garage instead of halfords, i had a word with the guy and asked if he could do the emissions first and he seemed find with it. so i'll take it for a spirited drive before hand :D hopefully that gets me through, if not ill sorn it and sort out the exhaust in spring :D

so any tips for getting it through? ill fill her up wit the esso 99+ fuel and red line it a couple of times, which is getting harder and harder living in wales.......

  13. hey guys,

mot today..... failed it :D i had an o2 error from the lambda months back, rest it and have had it for over 500 miles.

so today mot comes along and it failed on emissions 'exhaust lambda reading'. so my old error code was o2 sensor circuit slow response bank 1 sensor 2.

i have a 987 2.7 2005 i will probably just replace all 4 sensors. does anyone have any recommendations as to which ones? seems to be a massive range in price?

    thanks!

  14. welcome to the club.

your issues sound similar to the ones i had when i bought mine.

I've done the coolant pipes and the brake lines at the same time. one of the best tips i got was to get parts from porsche direct, give them and email and they will give you a price they came out cheaper on most things.

i did the brake lines while i did the coolant pipes as the hardliner run in a very small gap where the coolant pipes run so while the sub frame is out its much easier. also  i bought the brake lines direct from porsche so they are all pre made and from memory about £100 for both the front ones.

the coolant pipes seems like a daunting job but its really not that bad if you have a good impact to get the subframe bolts off.

    Ps.

    do not forget seal 11.

the above is a repair for if you have a leak / wet seal for the first 10 cm ( in the pic where your hand is pointing)

    Eric V.

thanks Eric, i'll give it a go, I've got some sealant (couldn't get the shell stuff:( )

do you have any tips for getting the seal off? any pictures or links?

do you seal on the top side or on the bottom or both??

    thanks!!!

  16. Oooo thanks for the info, I gave adjusting a go but still leaks with the watering can.

I think it’s the seal on the section at the front end of the roof, not the r shaped one but the one that joins the b pillar. looking online and you’ve got to change the seal which runs along the front and both sides?? About £300 🤯 any cheaper options?? Or can you get it in sections?

    I think I need this one? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/164700052094?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=BEgoUUvvS6i&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=JeoW8ojuTY-&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY
