  1. So, thought I’d do a couple of detail jobs today. First was to Gtech the black scuttle in front of windscreen. Leant across the car with my elbow/weight on lower screen and ‘pop’ …screen crack! Bugger..

spoke with Aviva who put me in touch with Autoglass to make my claim. Ran through screen spec - Nav, PCM, grey tint, rain sensor and expressed my wish for an OEM screen.

concerned that they use OEM as per build spec. Call handler said he’d ask Aviva for authority and report back.

anyone had a non OEM screen fitted with correct specs and all well?

have fear of impending battle with insurers.

    cheers

Have you run the car through an MOT with the LEDs in as high beams yet?  I've had no issues with getting mine passed for a couple of years with dipped but figured the high beams were a bit 'obvious'..

Not yet sourced and fitted the high beam LED’s. Have them in the low/dipped and went through MoT with no problems.

Need to get back on to the main beam project.

Thanks. They look identical to those that I tried, but can't find my cancelled order for them at the mo. How did you get them to fit within the light housing? I just coudn't see a way of fitting them in there with that extra bulk on the end of them, from what I remember anyway 🙄

They have an adapter ring that you use to mount in the light unit. There is adequate room to accommodate the cooling fan on the back of the lamps.

What bulbs did you use if you don't mind me asking? Those I tried just would not physically fit in the headlight unit on my 987.2 😔

    Hi Gramps, I have a 987.2

I’ll get the details for you. Leave with me for a couple of days.

  5. Thanks for your replies.

I have fitted dipped headlight LED's and I have to say they are really very good. Great colour and spread, big improvement over standard. Passed MoT too.

Have also upgraded other lights, fogs, interior, boots etc to LED and again great improvement.

Only lights to replace now are mainbeam headlights as these are now relatively poor.

Any suggestions for a LED replacement?

    Cheers

  6. Evening all,

Hoping that I can get a steer from learned members as to where the most favourable place I can buy Brembo replacement Brake kits from. Hopefully from those that have gone the same DiY route option to fit.

The feed back post service of the underside on my 987.2 today was mostly very good condition, little corrosion, no leaks …..with exception of the front brake rotors and pads.

Bummer is that car is due an MoT and I fear given the condition of the brake rotors it’s like to fail.

    Any advice and recommendations please?

    cheers

A dry day plus the Mrs out all day = a good days tinkering!

Finished the service off, plugs looked good but as I'd bought new just changed them, 3 coils were newer so that may explain the receipt for 3 x plugs.

Air filter was immaculate, cabin filter minging

Engine oil filled with 6 litres and then left to idle up to temp to do the level check, ended up pretty much bang on 7.5 litres. Both engine and box leak checked before buttoning up the rear plate.

Also cleared the rear roof drains, final bleed of the brakes and top up, all underside and arches coated in bilt hamber dynax and all undertrays given a clean ready to refit. Starting to come together now.

One question for you knowledgeable chaps, could any one shed any light on how to sort this, or point me in the right direction on what to search for, passenger side of the roof keeps sitting on the out side of the channel, i'm assuming something needs retensioned or adjustment?

    You will need this…..

Button hole woven flat elastic 20mm.

I purchased 1 meter from eBay for £2-3 pounds. Spot on replacement.

watch the YouTube videos, it’s a doddle.

    cheers

  8. Met with Richard Hamilton yesterday, he’s very helpful and knowledgeable and has a great bag of tricks.

We managed to reconfigure the DLR’s; from headlights and rear lights on to just using the fog lights on as DLR and rear lights off.

My car has the LED DLR option 605 on its build spec and indeed the LED strips are there at bottom of the fog lights (they are also the side lights when switched from light switch along with rear lights on).

As much and as many configurations tried with PIWIS we could not activate the LED’s to run as DLR. (ie front side lights on and rears off)

    Any thoughts chaps?

    thx

(ps. Did manage to get my iPhone connected via blue tooth module which is a great win)

If you are prepared to take a trip to Maidenhead (about an hour for you?) you will find @Richard Hamilton is an expert PIWIS user. Message him and set up to meet him.

Thanks for the steer to Richard; appreciated

From a PIWIS you can code DRL's to be either the LED's or the dipped beam on a 987.2,   thats with regular halogens, if you have bi-xenon's or PDLS then its different, the front DRL's are bigger and replace the front fogs altogther. ( no front fogs with bi-xenon)

I have a feeling that if the dipped beam is coded to be DRL, then the rears come on as well ( can't be sure of that - I don't have one anymore) - so perhaps the leds as well.

Where abouts in the country are you - there maybe someone nearby with the appropriate kit to recode it for you.?

    Evening,

So if I can find someone locally with PIWIS I can then have my 987.2 re coded for front LED’s on and headlights off?

    thx
