  1. Furniture Clinic kit for £60 will get them looking like brand new. 

    This was absolute shagged, 10 years old, 110k miles, leather filthy, dry, shiny and cracked, took around 4 hours, but came up like new, and an hour was masking up the piping!

    Now you have a good seat, worth considering a respray? 

  2. Oh, I should add, I though the 235.45.17 rear on my Boxster, instead of 265, worked really well, better than the 265.40.17. 

    You may find that cheaper again. 

  3. The PS4 tyres are just amazing imho, more so on RWD cars. 

    I just adore them, they are pretty comfy, they grip like mad but you can feel exactly what they are doing and in the wet.......christ they are impressive. 

     

    Centre Gravity, who are arguably one of the best at suspension and geo set up for Porsche in the UK, actually test the rubber on your front and rear axle as part of they set up. It can make so much difference to how much better a car feels when you have the right grip levels front and rear, or just have tyres that don't have a spot on compound for these cars, that they will advise you to swap them over so you are not compromising what the car is capable of. 

    £330 for PS4 all round is a no brainer imho. 

     

    Let's be honest, most modern tyres are very, very good these days, but you bought a Porsche for a reason? Why not give it the best and know you are getting the ultimate from your car? 

     

     

  4. I think it is more a case of I would like to use the Porsche more. 

    I have a an F11 530d Touring for family duties, but if it is just my wife and I with the dogs, if we go up to the coast to walk them it would be great to be able to take the Porsche. 

    I had a Z4 coupe before, and that would easily cope with the dog in the back, we used it a lot more. 

    I guess, it is also the fact I am loving the 986, and thinking if I don't pull the trigger on a 996 now, I might never get the chance. I can see the prices only going one way. 
    This is at a price I can do a complete suspension rebuild, refinish the leather seats and put miles on it without caring. Oh, and it is 15 miles down the road as well. Haha

    But, having said all that, I am loving the Boxster. 

  5. Went out for a couple of hours in it yesterday, hood down 16.5ºc, superb! 

    Went out again today and did 100 miles just on the B roads.

    Came back and gave the hood a good scrub, then applied some dye to it as well. Will see how it looks in the morning, se if it needs another coat. 

     

    I have been offered a 996 C4, which makes far more sense for us, being 3 of us and a dog. But I am seriously smitten with the Boxster since the suspension refresh and 235 section rear tyres, certainly no lack of grip and feels far more sprightly, so really not sure. 

     

     

  6. I had not used my car for a week or so, then the snow arrived and then I got flu (Or Covid as it is now called) and been out of action for the last 10 days or so. 

    Anyway, went out to the car today expecting the battery to be dead after the cold weather and sat for nearly a month with no Ctek or anything, and.......fired up straight away! 

  7. Does anyone know which OPCs have build slots? 

     

    Apparently Porsche are quoting residuals of just under £40k on these after 3 years and 24k miles, which is bringing them in at around £1200 a month with a 5% deposit, which is obviously putting a few buyers off, and apparently slots are becoming available again. 

    They will do better than that of course, well I guess no one knows any more with everything happening in the world, but you would like to think so. 

    But does anyone know 'which' OPCs have slots? 

    This is for a friend, but I think it is a good looking thing.....

    Because I prefer to not have too wide a tyre. Now I am running 235 rear like the 987 I think sticking with 205 front is the right balance. 

    It may well be the case that I move the 235 the the front and put 265.40.17 on the rear and it feel really nicely balanced. That would give me a perfect rolling radius front to rear and shed loads of grip, but not sure it would feel anywhere near as fun. 

    Mind you, some of the 18" 987 wheels ran 235 front and 265 rear, so it would be fine to do so. Be an interesting test. If I could afford to play around I would have a go.

    All im saying is that cheap tyres won't necessarily make your Boxster fall off the road, and might well offer the majority of the PS4 performance at a much lower cost if you find a good one. 

    By the same token, fitting a well regarded branded tyre won't necessarily be any better then a not so well known brand at a lower price. 

    I agree with that. 

    Even tyres like the Kumho KU39, which could be had for around £50 a corner, is a superb tyre and the PS4 certainly isn't twice as good as the price suggests. 

    And I have found some Continentals and Bridgestones awful even though they are some of the most expensive. 

    I had some Conti Sport Contacts get really noisy after less than a year and 5k miles.
    Tyres were almost 2 years old from dot code. 
    When I looked at them properly they were all cracked between the treads. 
    I spoke to Continental and they actually picked one up to evaluate them. 

    The came back and said that I had left them out in the sun too much.    ?????:blink:

    It seemed a few people had the same problem, albeit a bit longer than 2 years old. But put me off Contis going forward.

    I didn't buy these tyres. Regarding my bike, quite often I ran with a different rear to front. It made no difference with a man of my ability. 

     

    I never said tyres do not age, and i never said there is no benefit in buying performance orientated tyres. I have simply said it is a dick swinging contest for road cars and even track cars. Racing sells because men like to swing dicks. 

    Regarding your requirements for tyres, my current tyres do all you are asking for. Hence my point. It is planted, it does grip, it does good things in the wet. And what make are they, future something or other. no idea.

    Fair enough, I have had a couple of experiences where the car has felt like it was on ice because I have mixed tyre brands front and rear, so we shall have to agree to disagree.

    It was a genuine question, cheap mismatched tyres on a bike gives the same results, just amplified 10x.

    I have no interest in taking a Boxster on track btw. 
    I just want a tyres that makes the car feel planted, lets me feel what is happening and is great in the wet. 
    Some I have felt don't meet all these requirements, but maybe I have just been brainwashed?

    Brickstones as many call them. 
    They tend to wear well and........that's about it. 

    At 9 years old they will be well passed their best. 

    I think from next year things like buses and coaches will not be allowed tyres that are over 10 years old to be fitted. 

    The rubber hardens and they simply lose grip.

    No, you are being a reverse snob. ;)

    You seem to be having a dig because I really like PS4 and PS4S tyres. They tend to be winning a hell of a lot of fans too, there is a reason for that. 

    You are right, the £280 included the Hunter Alignment too and ircon regass. The tyres were £108 each fitted, Plus I got the alignment and an air con regass as well, and they sorted me a decent price, as I had bought some PS4s with alignment a couple of months previously before selling the Z4 coupe and use them alot, so probably cost me less than £200 fitted. But even at the RRP they cost around £12 more than the cr*p he had put on the back. Now, I am sure the tyres he had could probably be fitted for considerably cheaper, but to me it pretty much summed up the car. Things only done when really needed and with as cheap parts as possible. Like the mismatched springs on there, a single cheap front damper on one side. 

    I just don't see the point of owning a car like this and doing that. Not telling anyone else they are wrong for doing that, but it's not for me. 

     

    I'm not knocking Chinese tyres at all, I was simply pointing out a budget Chinese tyre will in no way perform as well as a Michelin PS4 on these cars. 

    I will stand by that comment too. 

    I personally wouldn't fit the PS2 N rated tyre as I don't think it comes close to the PS4, it was great when it came out back in 2004 I think it was, a proper game changer, but things have moved on since then. 

    When I went to the PS4s on the Z4 coupe I have never been so impressed with how improved a car has felt from swapping tyres, the difference in just how planted they felt and the way the steering felt after they were fitted blew me away. 
    More so than that though was how well they coped with water, the level of grip in the wet was incredible. As I said, totally blew me away, plus it was comfortable, even my wife noticed that. 

     

    I had been flitting between Eagle Asymmetricals and Michelin and Goodyear Efficentgrips on my estate (they are just ridiculously quiet), and really whichever was the best price at the time, but I do think the PS4 really suits RWD cars incredibly well.

    The guy who sold me my Boxster was adamant that the Avanti tyres he had just put on the rear were superb. 

     

    They were absolute shyatee and bordering on dangerous. 

    I saw the invoice at £210 fitted. 

    I fitted PS4 rears for £280.

     

    Why would you to save £70? A tank of fuel. It boggles the mind. 

  17. Yeah like them. For the day or so I had used them after they had bed in a bit. 

    Definitely makes the car feel a bit more nimble and maybe feels a little more progressive when pushing on, but not all that much in it if I am honest. At first I thought it was far more progressive, but I think that was more the tyres were scrubbing in. 

     

    It doesn't tramline quite as much, which is what makes it feel a little more nimble, and that is a benefit. But in all honesty not all that much of a difference. 

    I need to get a couple of dry days and really test it.
