  1. The code is stored in the main body of the radio on cdr23. If there are issues with the front LCD panel then just swapping that over is ok and the radio obviously doesn't need recoding.

  2. I bought a non original new from eBay because of the same issue the OP has. It made no difference to the window not dropping enough. Lived with it for a couple of years and then bought a used Porsche one with the motor included from eBay. That fixed the window drop issue. I suspect the motor was the issue, not the mechanism in my case.

  3. Woke up yesterday to the car alarm sounding. I've not driven the car for few weeks, so I'm sure it's a flat battery. Open door, key in ignition and car won't turn over. Can't open bonnet to get to the battery. I've already made up a lead with a cigarette lighter plug on. Out with my spare battery, connect the lead and plug in. Press the bonnet open button and it works, bonnet now open. Battery on charge for twenty four hours. Car starts first time, all is good with the world. The end.

  4. The lamps have permanent wiring connected to them, I could swap the lamps over just to see if it's a bulb I guess. Internet searches say it's probably the ballast though. Busy today, will report back when I've had another look.

  5. I purchased my 986 seventeen years ago and have recently been having problems with one xenon headlight going out. After removing the headlights it appears that the car when new had halogen bulbs and a previous owner has done an upgrade to xenon. I have swapped over the ballasts and lamps with each other and the fault moves to the other headlight. This is good because it eliminates the lighting switch which I replaced about 2 years ago anyway. The kit which has been installed is £150 from design 911,https://www.design911.com/porsche/996--911--1997-05/hid-light-kits/ . Being a tight git I'm looking for something cheaper or ideally the same but cheaper. Any recommendations

  6. For emergencies I use a spare battery, a lead with crocodile clips on one end and cigarette lighter adaptor on the other. Open car door with key and connect spare battery to lead, plug in the cigarette adaptor.  Open the front truck with the switch on the floor.

  7. I've made up a lead with a cigarette lighter plug on one end and crocodile clips on the other to connect to my spare battery. Much easier than using the jump plug in the fuse box. If your using a charger you might have to leave it switched on for an hour to overcome the internal resistance of the dead battery. As for taking the wheel off to get to the cable, guess where the tools are ???

  8. Always had a problem with the passenger side window not dropping enough to clear the roof. Previously I replaced the window regulator with a OEM type, but still not much improvement. So I bought a second hand original Porsche one and the motor from eBay. Fitted it today and success now drops as it should. Downside was the chicken I had on the BBQ rotisserie burnt to a crisp while I was fixing the car.

  9. The passenger window on my car does not drop enough to clear the roof when the door handle is opened. The glass can also be pushed down about 2 inches by hand. The driver's side does not do this. So I have replaced the cable regulator but not the motor. It still has the same issue. Could this be the motor ? Anyone had this problem.
