    I grew up on LC's.

Recently sold a perfect Bounty bike and have a black Elsie that has a 400cc motor, 28mm Mikunis, Nikon Pipes etc etc & being rebuilt as a hybrid, so Metmechex swinger, RGV wheels, ZX6R front end...

Same for the LC, as a teen I was hankering after an RD125 LC but then passed the test and went direct to the 350, the newer model with the aircraft filler cap.  As it happens the first thing I noticed about this Vespa was the reg plate LC16 - I haven't picked it up yet but have already christened it Elsie in my head just from the reg.

My mate upstaged me by getting an RG500 gamma, square four engine, complete lunatic (him and the bike) though I can't really talk as I wheelied into the back of it once and had to cough up the bits, expensive mistake that one 😳

    I have a Brompton bicycle - I think they're quite similar!😂

Ha!  You could be right, might even have more power, but I'd rather be on the Vespa for the 100 mile ride I've got coming on Saturday 😄

I caught sight of an old Kwak GPZ500s at the dealers last weekend, did quite a few miles on mine on and I have to say I probably miss it more than the ZXR 750 (old vacuum tube model) and (shock horror) RD350LC.  I know, I'm weird...

    Those RSVs 🥰

I'm going to semi-daily drive it, which is probably stupid, but f*ck it, whilst I still can you might as well.

Kudos for the car obviously, but more kudos in my book for this very important message 👆

  4. I'm picking up an upgraded two wheel garage companion for the Boxster on Saturday, a shiny red stylish Italian 🛵

It's no Ducati or Aprilia but a 125 Primavera is still a lot of fun and hurts just as much if you fall off.

I suspect the "reload" software was actually this tech bulletin...... http://australiancar.reviews/_pdfs/Porsche_Boxster-Cayman-911_981-991_WE02_201404.pdf

Wondering if some of the 3rd party units out there have (or had) an issue where in the attempt to reset the service interval they "wrote" the service interval instead, or if there is an issue in the instrument cluster software  - I have read of a few cases of the 981s  having the same problem and it seems OPC voodoo magic is required to resolve.

I know on the 987 there are "simpler" settings and i have seen where one had been told it should have a service every 12 months - I would imagine easy for the wrong tool ( not in the opc case ) ( or the right tool in the wrong hands ) to change "how often to ask for a service" instead of "I have just had a service".

Could be, the description sounded the same though they weren't able to do it first time round.  They had to order in a disc from Germany and it (allegedly) took 6 hours, I'd have waited if it was only 20-30 mins but they had it all day.

There’s a couple of Carsoft units on the for sale section, you could see if they are still available.

    there’s this v1 version

    or this Version two unit

Or maybe one of the really cheap odb2 readers will do the job?   Like this:

    https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2021-ELM327-HH-ODB-ODB2-Torque-PRO-Bluetooth-Car-Auto-Diagnostic-Scanner-Tool-/185059121489?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&_trksid=p2349624.m46890.l6249&mkrid=710-127635-2958-0

Alternatively maybe a really cheap unit will do the job:

How "lucky" are people with getting this to work?  I bought one to try and resolve an issue where the car kept saying "Service now", even though it was way ahead of schedule and the message re-appeared the day after it had a full service at the OPC.

The OPC could only get it to remember it had been serviced after they had it back for a day to renew the software.

I bought the V2 of above as I thought it might be handy but it didn't let me set the date of the service.  Guess it was too much of an ask for it but reading the blurb it sounds like it's the sort of thing it should be capable of.  As Porsche couldn't fix it without the full re-install I'm prepared to give it the benefit of the doubt and keep hold of it, could be handy in the future maybe...  if anyone needs to borrow it in the Medway towns/Kent area let me know 👍

Yes I’m sure although I got a good px for my S, the GTS also rose in price, so cost to change may have been similar. That said, the GTS was an ok price compared to some on autotrader, so I ignored any real financial calculation and just went with man maths :)

Man maths for the win for sure, I’ll possibly be using the same calculator in the next couple of years. As I don’t actually “need a car”, it’s a toy, there’s a school of thought that selling mine high now and buying when that bubble bursts makes sense but no-one knows what will happen with prices so can’t take that risk.  Plus it means I still get to play in the meantime.

  8. Well that looks lovely

In terms of price and given the general craziness of the price rises (has it flattened yet?) would you have had to pay more to change do you think, ie. the px went up but did the GTS go up by an equal amount I wonder?

On paper maybe not but out on the road they really do hold their own. I enjoy being the underdog on runs because it always surprises people. A good friend of mine has a 991 turbo. You do see how it pulls a gap out of a corner, it can get the power down sooner and the torque means it almost catapults away from you, but when the 3.4 is in the zone it really does pull quite well. It really doesn't feel like it has 200bhp+ more Shorter ratios would have been nice mind.

I’m surprised my lowly 2.7 can even make it up a slight slope.  It’s soooo slow.

    On a track maybe.

When the post first appeared the VIN checker returned a "no recall" however I have just looked up my VIN again and and now it says recall required.

Same here, thought I was in the clear but literally just got the recall letter.  No parts until November anyway...

Have had one that meets this description for ages. It’s characterful to say the least - as @K.I.T.T. would probably confirm.

Definitely not a car for the purist with a few tweaks - it goes well, stops hard and handles nicely albeit the extra power means that anything over 6/10ths driving needs proper concentration.

All that said they are often a better aspiration than reality - especially corrosion - I got lucky with mine.

Heresey Incoming: I’d keep the heavily used Boxster over the 1982 911 Hotrod.

Reckon @RBD914 has pretty much sorted the ideal modern garage setup.

Yeah, I was speaking with Jon of Jon Seal Sports Cars about his light blue restomod - at the time we were also discussing and comparing against Elise reliability.  He had similar comments about the aspiration vs reality.

  13. Interesting to see these opinions, I had dallied with the idea of a 996 C4S or Turbo before getting the 981.  There are four 911 cabs within a few miles of me (one replaced a 718 BGTS) and they just look hunchback to me.

If I could afford it and get back to a house with a double garage I could see myself getting an older 911 coupe to keep the 981 company.  I find a ratty looking air-cooled model quite appealing, which is just as well as I'd never be able to afford a decent one.

I do remember going out in a friend's 930 very many years ago, I had a quite low-powered Westfield at the time - very excited to try it out but I do remember asking him why it was so slow.  It felt like a tank.

    Tonbridge OPC.

I think things changed with COVID. For renewal no 111 point check. And they now seem to be offering 3 year renewals.

    whereabouts are you. ?

I'm up near Hempstead Valley, so in the neighbourhood 😉

They offered me one or two year renewals but might have done three if I'd asked.  I only went for the one year as it's still got a little while to go before the extension + I don't think of this car as a keeper, more of a toe-dip into the world of Porsche before diving in the deep end or finding another pool.   Can't think of what the next move will be yet though, it's hard to fault this 🤔

Did this on my 987.2 last year.

you have to have owned the car for 3 months.  It has to have had its previous service at OPC, I had to have the 111 point check.

3rd party items fail the 111 check. Battery. Brakes.  Suspension.

the a/c has to work etc.  N related tyres.  Matched.  Even wear, not more than 5 years old (I think you can argue that one)

for renewals.  At least last year because of covid they were waiving the check requirement.  But not for “new business”.

In my case I replaced the yuasa battery with Porsche branded one and that was it since it met the remainder or the requirements.

What OPC was that Paul?  I see you're local to me.

Just extended my warranty at Sidcup, was serviced by them a couple of month's back, no need for 111 point check - it wasn't even mentioned.

  16. I've got it but it's no longer on my list of requirements for the next purchase when that occurs, with the dynamic mounts it's more of a liability.  For me, just Sports (not +) and manual mode works best for a countryside hack.  With Sports+ I would always pick manual before selecting as the auto option is just nuts if you're not on a race track.

My daily has a version of this, it reads roadsigns, sometimes, and you can tell the car to limit its speed to its reading of the roadsigns if you want

Sometimes it works, sometimes it sees a 50 sign on a side road to a 70 dual carriageway and panics because it thinks I am speeding, it reads some overhead signs, but misses the "end" word - so carries on thinking its 40 or whatever for a while.

As an aid - it's OK - but it's not as good as some I have seen, perhaps if it was supplemented with an accurate mapping of speed limits to GPS location, with proper, consistent, realtime data of temporary limits then there is a use case, so interested to see how effective the compulsory systems are ( and how cheaply the manufacturers can implement something that fits the rules).

Mandating it as a feature is a way of making the tech better/cheaper - of course - eventually they will make it more difficult to ignore/disable.

I think that's a great idea, the amount of times I've moaned at the dashboard when the car has got the speed limit detected and a speed limiter that you have to manually set the speed at.  Gets right on my chest when the same data is in the same computer and they haven't thought to add a bit in the program to link the two... it's a no-brainer.

I'd be happy to have that on a car for those moments when I've crept up to 39 in a 30.  They are chucking in 20mph limits here and there now, makes it feel like you can get out and walk in a modern waft-wagen.

  18. Aha!  Saw it there before here.  Yeah I'm no expert but spotted a couple of whoopsies, better than a lot of articles though.  I chimed in on the comment actually to sing the praises, PH people seem a bit more heated with each other I find.

Sold mine today to the trade. Lost some confidence after the steering rack failed. Not uncommon it appears and not acceptable on a car with 15k. Still did very well largely as result of the inflated prices across the used xar market. Mine was for sale for some time one private enquiry everything else enquiry wise from traders.
In my (recent!) experience you won’t sell a 981 for big money privately. People want the security and convenience of buying through a dealer.
Quite chuffed I didn’t spaff £2k on PSE now as well!

That really didn't last too long then, can imagine having something like that fail knocking confidence.  Touch wood I've been lucky with the one I bought a few months before yours last year.

Feeling committed to mine for a bit longer now having just got the major service and another year's warranty added - those options are great but increase the chances of stuff to go wrong in an expensive way.

Fortunate timing really on the inflated prices, depending on if you're looking for it's replacement also at an inflated price of course.  Remember my blue elise you and your dad saw?  Just read an article on PH about a standard S1, nothing noteworthy apart from 1 owner, selling price for it is way over what I sold my SVA Sport 160 (i.e. top model) around this time last year.  So far no comments on "how much?!?!" so seems to be accepted that the pricing bubble hasn't burst yet - and maybe it won't...

Yeh, Ceramics and PTV are pretty rare options,  but it’s strong money for a ‘13 reg so it will need to be someone that must have those options.

Would be better with Carrera S wheels to my eyes.

Mine has PTV, does it make a difference? Not to me.  Likely even less so given it's 2.7...
