"The Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS and Spyder RS are not affected, as they fall under small-series type approval."

Porsche Great Britain has confirmed to CAR magazine that it will still be selling every which flavour of 718 for the foreseeable future, as will most markets outside the EU. ‘We will continue to sell all 718 Boxster and Cayman models in the UK, as long as they are built by the factory’ a spokesman told us. ‘We sell a few thousand in the UK each year.’

    Hi Stark9

Been really lazy this year and booked a trip with Scenic Car Tours "Hidden Treasures of Italy".  Normally plan my routes and book hotels myself each year but somehow couldn't be bothered this year. Still seems like a good trip.  A couple of Boxsters also going as well as other makes, old and new.  I'll let you know when we get back.

We used Scenic Car Tours for a trip down to the Italian lakes last year. It was so good we’ve booked it again for this September!

You will have a fantastic time - it’s one of the very best holidays we’ve ever had.

  3. Took my BGTS on track on Friday at an Evo track day.

Wow! My previous 981 GTS was amazing but the 4.0 was a new level. The torque, acceleration, handling, poise and all round dynamics were incredible. 48 hours later I am still buzzing. And I saw 140 mph for the first time! Cleaning the flies off today has been quite a chore!

The bonding process is complete - I love this car. Next stop Anglesey in July before taking it down to the Italian lakes in September. Can’t wait.

Well you would be a little biased Jonathan!

Got your new 718 GTS yet?

Yes - picked it up on Saturday: another beautiful car with a creamy engine and I really enjoyed the return to a manual gearbox. Sadly we don’t have any roads like yours in the vicinity so have yet to fully shake it down - the M40 didn’t lend itself to a spirited drive. I can’t wait to get it onto the open road and have a proper blast.

Really pleased to hear you are enjoying the GTS; please stop mentioning the noise - it’s breaking my heart! I need to change my profile pic.

    And it is definitely Carmine.

So, after 14 months of waiting for my new BGTS 4.0, I have made the decision to pull the plug and go pre-owned instead. I spotted a vehicle at an OPC with an almost identical colour scheme and spec to my order with only 970 miles on the clock.

While I would have loved a brand new vehicle, the uncertainty over when if ever I would get one (and at what price) meant the final decision was relatively easy (especially given the more than acceptable PX offer for my 981 GTS at a time when there is speculation about used car values dropping).

Ultimately, I figured that life is too short to keep waiting, wondering and hoping when I could be out driving the vehicle now.

Anyone with an order at East London should now be one place nearer the front of the queue.

Well that worked out well! Another forum member spotted this post and we have today done a deal which means I get a little more than the PX, the buyer gets a great car at a competitive price and, most importantly, the BGTS stays in the BoXa.net family, just like my RS60. Good news all round.

  7. Apologies for the embarrassing ineptitude! In addition to standard spec, car has:

    Carmine red paint

    GTS interior pack (Carmine)

Reversing camera Inc park assist front and rear

Automatically dimming interior and exterior mirrors Inc rain sensor

Per my comment above, it’s not currently on the market but will be in the not too distant future.

  9. Not an enormous amount of help but mine has everything and is likely to be on the market within the next six months, dependent upon when my allocation of a 4.0 GTS  comes through.

We’re just back from an amazing tour of the Swiss Alps, Stelvio Pass etc and the car was just brilliant. It will be a wrench when I have to say goodbye. You will.not regret getting one.

Ok so I’m doing a five day road trip in Europe early September. What headlight adjustment is needed in the 981. Do you just put stick on deflectors straight onto the headlights. I’ve just got standard lights.
    Cheers

We are heading to the Italian lakes via the Stelvio Pass in the GTS next weekend and I have been researching the same question. The almost unanimous view was that the low beam makes adjustment unnecessary but to have a set of stickers in the glove box just in case you are challenged. Which seems to be the conclusion you have come to. I’ll give you a wave if our paths cross!

  11. Has anyone been given an allocation in recent months? I’m coming up to the anniversary of placing my order in August and no firm news as it stands. I have fixed a call with the OPC for next Monday to see what the latest status is.

Hi everyone I just joined and this is my first post. I just bought a 718 Boxster GTS 4.0 and was wondering what options there are for aftermarket exhausts or part exhausts.

I can see behind the rear wheels both sides there is a pipe that seems to come from a CAT and then has another filter on it which I assume is a PPF filter and this has a sensor in it. I see akrapovic make this pipe without the filter on. Would replacing the stock ones with after market bring on a EML? Does anyone know?

I have just spotted that Litchfield are doing an upgraded exhaust - could be worth looking into

The 4.0 GTS is the only Porsche I'd change my BGTS for..

Interesting. As a 981 GTS owner with an order placed for a 4.0, I took the same view. Having a play with the 981 at Millbrook on Sunday reminded me of what a superb car it is and three of the 911 owners who attended commented on how great the sound was on the GTS. It’s almost made me reconsider the 4.0.  Almost but not quite.

Why would you forsake your BGTS for a 4.0?

    She’s arrived

    hopefully the link will work

PPF applied by Miglior Automotive and I would highly recommend them

Looks fantastic! Is that Agate with Bordeaux interior? Did you go for red or black roof?

I’m interested because that colour scheme is on my shortlist. I placed my order in August so, based on your timeline, maybe mine will arrive in Q4. Which OPC did you use?

  15. I’ve always had manual Boxsters and was looking for the same when I bought my 981 GTS 4 years ago. Then the perfect spec, perfect colour car appeared and I jumped at it - despite its PDK box. It’s been a fantastic car: I’ve loved it and the PDK is brilliant.

But I still hankered after a manual so specified it when I placed an order for a GTS 4.0 in August last year (no allocation yet). It’s probably my last new ICE car so let’s go with the full hands on experience I thought - no compromises.

Then I started to worry about the long gears and decided to try both a PDK and a manual at the PEC Day at Silverstone. I loved the throw of the manual, the snick of the gearbox and the wonderful involvement of physically changing gear. My decision was vindicated.

Out of the manual and into the PDK next.

What a gearbox - even better than the 981 version! On the tight handling circuits in sport mode and the PDK in auto it was lightning quick with double downshifts under braking ahead of sharp corners: achieving a single manual downshift would have been nigh on impossible in the same time, let alone two. It enabled me to focus completely on my lines, steering, braking and accelerating away, safe in the knowledge I would always be in the right gear. Tremendous.

I left Silverstone thinking that the answer was PDK.

But is it? If the gears were shorter, I would almost certainly go manual - I just love the feeling of changing gear. Luckily, I don’t commute or live in a city so stop/start motoring is not an issue.

But I do attend four or five track days a year and the PDK would be much better for them. And my wife would certainly prefer an ‘automatic’. Though, of course, it does cost £2k more which could go on another couple of options.

    And so it goes on.

Ultimately, the solution is clear: a manual Boxster and a PDK Cayman. I just need to get a second allocation. Shouldn’t be a problem, should it?
