  1. Had a bad experience with the 987.1 ages ago at the branch in Reading, 3 attempts to get the correct screen, eventually the manager waived their part of the excess, so fair do's.
Just had Autoglass come to the house for the first time for 2011 535d screen, the guy was brilliant, quick and easy, so 'it depends'  😉

  2. Ran into total flat battery problem after leaving far too long, my fault entirely. (may also have left dashcam live)
Key unlock door, quite a narrow garage so is normal to need drivers window down to slide in, was a bit of a squeeze but in with TACKlife diddy booster pack.
Open fuse flap near right knee, use yellow fuse puller to pull fuse next to it with diagram of front bonnet opening, it's not really a fuse and will only come out around half an inch to reveal copper contacts.
    Key in ignition.
Positive feed from booster pack to fake fuse, earth to  nearest, so in this cramped condition door hinge worked.
That gave enough power and popped frunk.
    Drivers window down, easier out/in.
Moved booster pack to battery, electrical noises as things came to life and beeped.

Started first time, am well impressed with these small booster pack things, this one claimed went from 100% to 97% after the start.

Long drive in the sun, did stop halfway for a walk and ice cream, long drive back seems fine, will obviously keep an eye on the battery now, maybe winter trickle feed.

If it is a low use car and service/MOT are only a few weeks or couple of months away then it should be OK to wait.  There would have to be at least a 500 to 1000 mile life at typical wear rates engineered into the design once the warning is triggered to give a driver time to book it in and get them changed, but sooner rather than later is sound advice.

    That'll do nicely, Ta 🙂

  4. Yeah I was hoping for an informed 'the sensor is 1mm left' sort of thing, there's a small gap before service/mot time and don't drive it much.
As against Citroen pads which appeared to be made of chocolate and at one point were an annual replacement.... not that I have Citroens anymore 🙂

Rather than opinion, yes they will be replaced shortly, yes I know there's a reason for the warning.

Someone that had replaced theirs as soon as got warning and found x mm left, I know they're placed with a certain gap, I've replaced before as soon as got warning and seen quite a lot of leeway left but forget what sort of car that was on...

  5. I have by choice, 'Tracker' systems, but pay once for lifetime have car, not sure they still do that - they may have realised people that keep cars for a 'while' went for that option 🙂

  6. Eaahh, when I were a lad....
We had an Rx7, found that having taken 2 stroke motorbikes to bits and understanding the difference between 2 stroke and 4 stroke engines was a good help in adjusting the w*nkel rotary engine timing problem it had, anyway, at one point you could drive up to a junction or roundabout at end of a slip road, and lose all engine power, leave 10 seconds and would start again, be fine for next couple of drives, then happen again.

About same time, the bottle of redex we'd been periodically dosing the engine with, started to leak, looked at that and the little white sealing disc was missing.
It was floating about in the fuel tank, every once in a while it would come to the area of the outlet and be sucked to make a seal, enough to stop the engine, at which point it'd float off somewhere and the engine would start again.

Two handed job to drop the fuel tank and tip out low amount of petrol complete with small white disc, then stuck into redex cap again, very firmly..

It wasn't me, was wife who had stuck the redex bottle in still with the white cap on 🙂

Major tip, use a torch, not a candle or match when looking into fuel tank 🙂

These days, something like the LED lit lens on the end of a cable - endoscope I think they call it, can be plugged into laptop or phone and gives a view - which I originally got to look down a gap between furniture to see if a particular object had fallen there, it did the job 🙂

  7. I was looking for a replacement for my rarely used BMW K1200S, end of my return to biking saga after divorce, found a Boxster in Aberdeen but good mileage and price right for me, they'd also give a reasonable price for the bike in part ex so price to change wasn't too bad.
At that point I hadn't had a car with heated seats, so that the Boxster 3.2 S hadn't didn't really register, 27,000 miles did, silver, FSH, 2006, it wasn't till much later realised heated seats in a convertible would be a good idea - but also in the meantime I bought a bmw with heated seats and through a winter thought AHH!
Wasn't till joined BoXa.net that found it's a 987.1, knew about the high tax, didn't care, it did what I wanted it to do, go around corners very well indeed, roof off during the summer, and the noise 🙂 And was different from the bmw daily driver.
Oh and had xenons, anything bought since 2001 I've had xenons, it's way slower than a remapped 535d in acceleration but lives for the corners 🙂

It now owes me nothing, only has to be different to daily driver, which is black, get clean, drive for a day and it's filthy again, sometimes lucky if it lasts looking clean for a day, the silver Boxster hide the grime well, what with cat prints and furry roof 🙂

  8. Lost track with endless grey days, went to start Boxster - dead as a doornail - in garage but it had unlocked and frunk popped - not how I'd left it, not even enough power to get drivers window down, so was tight squeeze to get in.
Left bonnet up, key in ignition, connected charger to battery direct.
Day later, still no joy, charger still shows amber, still not enough power to open window.

    Remembered daughter had had a problem with her Jetta ages ago, left interior light on, borrowed a neighbors lithium jump starter, so I got her one and a stronger one for my cars, checked how much charge it had, 100%, hooked up to Boxster battery and everything sprang to life, started first time, only ran in garage yet, need to get out for a drive, but this was the one I have;

     https://www.amazon.co.uk/Tacklife-Car-Jump-Starter-Quick-charge/dp/B07BGRN4TF

After starting the Boxster -, checked the amount in the Tacklife, showed 97%, impressed - A) that it started a dead car, B, only took 3% out of it!

May need a new battery 🙂  Will see...

  9. Probably the same people that go to the bank of the Thames as it's nice and natural, then take their musak to share with everyone, disposable BBQ - that happily I see seems to smoke the users mostly... oh what else - oh masses of them with so much furniture they seem to have come in a van....
