😄 I hope not! It's only on one side if it is.

Had the GT4 through it's MOT last week, noticed a small hole in the exhaust silencer, right on the lower seam weld.
Anyone had a successful warranty claim for this?
I'll take it in to get inspected when i'm home, but certainly doesn't look like a corrosion issue to me, rest of the box is solid, looks to be a weld failure.

I just left my car unlocked to/from Ibiza. Can barely open the doors wide enough to get in, and nobody is below deck anyway.

Ask the OPC Service Manager nicely and they'll confirm the cars history, it's all on Porsche database.
Doubt they'll give you copies of any invoices, as others have said, GDPR.

This is somewhat theoretical, and I'm more than happy to be corrected on the operation of this mysterious blob of plastic that can cause a major headache for 986 owners.
I've recently changed the AOS on my Poverty Pork Boxster, believing it had failed, but to cut a long story short it appears the issue has been oil overfill, rather than AOS failure, oil level was sitting one bar from the top of the dash scale. My write up relating to this is in the "Running Reports' section.
I couldn't find an answer online as to how the AOS operates, so opened up my 'old' one to see what mysteries lie within, expecting a load of baffles etc, but it's nothing of the sort.
Diaphragm cover removed, pipe on right goes into crankcase (oil return?), ridged pipe on left fume take off from crank case.
Bottom section viewed from top, nothing complicated here, 2 empty chambers.
Top section viewed from below, lower take off goes to cam cover vent.
Diaphragm removed reveals a tension spring, which I assume holds the diaphragm in place vs induction vacuum, which attaches to hose top right.
Dirty side of diaphragm also has a sprung relief valve, which again I have to assume can be overcome by crank case pressure to relieve excess oil pressure as and when this may occur, allowing the dump of oil into the induction system, creating the smoke bomb that 986 owners experience on occasion.
The assumption is when this occurs that the AOS is kaput, but I couldn't find anything wrong with this one. Diaphragm is intact, springs are still good, and those are the only moving parts in it.
Hope this sheds some light and is useful to someone. 🙂

Fortunately not. The paint was wrecked by molten roof felt etc dropping onto it, got a long overdue re-paint on the insurance.

I used to do this with the Cossie every year, and get a refund on the annual policy whilst it was laid up with the cover reduced to F&T only, which was a blessing when we had a house fire a few years ago.
I haven't found a company since that offers this unfortunately.

I used a cheap iCarsoft tool to check my gap. You have to adjust it though with the same method as a 986 with the little cog in between the hand brake shoes
I'll be doing that in future! If i'd have known that's what it was I wouldn't have bothered taking it in.

My handbrake was playing up last year, took it in expecting a faulty solenoid. 'That'll be £260 sir to reset the air gap due to pad wear.'
Blowing exhaust gasket, changed myself last week, didn't even bother asking.
Friend of mine has a 991.1 C4S, he's over £10k in warranty claims so far, but he drives it like he stole it, everywhere. Fair play I say. Had some good runs out with him, same engine in mine and his car.

I wish I could go to Spa.
It's got to be done at least once, absolutely epic place, and a really pretty part of the world. Been lucky enough to go 3 times, then took the boy to the F1 last year.
I need to take the GT4 before I move on from it.

I'm expecting that and a bit more in June with the GT tax.
There's no way there's £1500 in the job, apart from the £200+/hour labour rate, parts must be £300 of it tops. Total pi55 take IMO but it's the trap we're in.

Had mine 2 weeks, will keep it until it explodes. 😄

https://www.carnewal.com/products/986/p86037/986-Carnewal-GT-Exhaust
Had one of these on my 996t, looks completely standard, but modified internals and a lot more 'gruff' than the standard item. They also offer fitting, so if you've ever needed an excuse to go and stock up on Belgian chocolates and beer...

Looking at the pic I'm not even sure you'll need a new bumper skin (or PU as they're known). There looks to be zero structural damage, worth getting the light unit removed to check mounting points for PU, but any decent bodyshop would sort that for £2-300 I would think.
Really not worth claiming, you'll be marked for life.

I already had, everything they had listed was high 60s, which I did point out to him.

Re the WBAC valuations, I was recently in email dialogue with East London OPC enquiring about a 4.0 GTS they have in at low 60s, he sent me a screen shot of a WBAC valuation for my GT4 at 44k, and expected us to go from there.
Needless to say, that conversation went no further. Standard mark up at an OPC appears to be at least 10k.

Give Classicline a call, always worth a chat and they've mirrored my NCB in the past.

Used Classicline for years, UK track days included.

Royal do a great job, although i'd advise against Alcantara, looks great at first but takes some looking after.

Lovely looking car, that’s my dream spec!
Good Luck with whatever you decide to do.
Thanks! It’s been quite an experience 😄

The great thing about the Boxster is that they are great at any speed, even stationary.
For me it’s all about roof down and that connection to it being as close to a motorbike that I want to get to these days.
Any of the Boxster models is car enough for UK roads. 😎
100% agree. I've had much faster cars, and much slower. A Boxster as a package takes some beating.

@map Danzai in the loop 😉
Be good to have a catch up, I’ll give you a shout when I escape, you haven’t physically met Rhubarb yet have you…👹

I've just completed a 3500 mile euro trip in mine, and there's nothing I dislike about the car (besides the handbrake). It was comfortable, zero back ache from the buckets (my 996t was far worse). Managed to get a heap of luggage in for a 3 week road trip.
More than fast enough in every situation. Toyed with the idea of taking it on the 'ring but it was a tourist day when we arrived so watching a bike overtake a VW van getting passed by an M3 was enough to put me off. The soundtrack is superb, makes every drive an event but it can get you in trouble very easily speed wise if you've got little self restraint.
Renewal cost circa four times higher than last year!

My Classicline policy, which includes UK track cover, came in around £50 up on last year, just over £600.
Not planning any track days over next 12 months, so went with Aviva, £300. Fully comp cover in Europe too, which is rare.
