My new discs from Autodoc arrived a few days ago.

Checked the box, all looked ok. Whipped the first disc off, looked to compare old and new. What!!! The new ones are only 315mm not the 330mm I have.

Checked on the Autodoc website, my car, a 2016 GTS listed as correct for these ATE discs. WRONG!

Not happy, having to take a hit and buy Eurocarparts ones for more £££ and faff about returning the Autodoc ones. Not the first time they have sent the wrong stuff, I ordered air filters, got sent 987.1 ones instead of 991. It's areal PITA when you dismantle half of the car to find the replacement doesn't fit. Having said that, it's not as much hassle as trying to fill your wallet up after the OPC have emptied it, lol. (To be fair, some of the stuff from the OPC isn't too bad, Design 911 are worse, they aren't as pleasant to deal with as they don't have a range of tasty cars to ogle at whilst they fleece you).

Pagid £65.47 each on carparts 4 less (Euro carparts alter ego) if thats any help? https://www.carparts4less.co.uk/

  3. It all started with a project car as an addition to the two daily's always liked tinkering with the ICE:

    Timeline:

A Suzuki SJ413 Samurai, modified it .......... did some off roading

Followed by T5 VW van.......... modified to day camper

Followed by thinking about return to road bikes and ..................... deciding it was a bad idea

Followed by thinking about open top sports car (big shock to me) and purchasing a BMW Z4 3.0 (3 years ownership and absolutely loving it!)

Followed by the first Porsche 987S Wow loved it!

Folowed by a big investment in my present 981S ...........the Black pearl 6 years ago. Love maintaining, driving and modifying.

Brembo are OE (and their new PVT disc for teh 987/996 and 987/997 is no longer handed so don't be surprised by that.  Wait for good prices on Car Parts 4 Less or Autodoc.  Autodoc can take 7-8 days to deliver from Germany  (billed in £ and no duty to pay) but food for when you are planning work.

Used Autodoc a few times with no issues other than the extended delivery time that you need to factor in. Prices were good

  5. I had one for my Z4 back in the day. They work, but because they are waterproof they will lock in moisture if you put it on a wet roof.

They do stop bird poo, tree sap, UV damage and other organics getting on the roof and into the drains which is good.

When I put it on when the car was wet, I took the first opportunity to remove it and let the roof an cover dry out however.

I haven't bought one for the Boxster as I am lucky to garage it

  6. The Good years are very good cannot fault them

As for temps/pressures. Try and maintain the normal road press when the tyres are track hot.

So warm tyres up until the get slippery or complain by howling' return to pits .

Measure PSI and drop press to match normal road pressures Just a rule of thumb. Apply a certain level of common sense and build up some track experience bases on track temperature etc.

Monitor that the side walls are holding up and there are is no signs of them "rolling over" (scrub marks). Road tyres/Good years are not specifically track tyres so the sidewalls will not hold up to dropping a massive amount of pressure.

Also Ask other people in the pits what are they running with similar spec cars, some people with more experience can be very helpful.

  7. Front grilles work for me. I have made DIY grilles for the intakes at the back as I wasn't keen on the look of the ZS's.

I fitted them fairly early on in ownership and have done around 22k miles. There's ususally a discount code kicking about somewhere on line.

Now that I have had the front bumper off a few time I could have made a some DIY jobs but they were easy to remove when the car was in warranty (some OPC's don't like grilles)

  8. I would stick with the Indy route After 5 years of ownership I don't rate the OPC servicing from personal experience and customer focus and care.

If some thing goes wrong simply pay for the repair of the issue.

I wouldn't bother with an aftermarket warranty either. The money can be put towards the repair, if it is ever needed ...........................  (IMHO)

  9. Hi Mick and welcome

Some pictures would help but I am not good at posting pic's any more either.

The side vents should be the same each side but EDC knows better and I trust him......but i am not a 86 expert.

Wheels on all the Boxsters are a little pessimistic when fitting the arches and spacers help but 10mm front 15mm rear are probably a safe option.

Enjoy and forget Porsche paranoia ......................drive it and smile

  10. It is a fairly straight forward job if you have a reasonable experience. The change helped gear changes being a little easier and more precise in my 987.1.

The oil and its age does affect gearbox action. For example, When I raced MotoX  back in the day, with clutch-less changes three meetings was the limit before changes were missed and the box would jump out of gear occasionally. Gearbox oil change everything went back too normal

Gear oil stinks so avoid spilling or getting on clothes.

Check the spec of oil you are using matches. You don't have to pay a fortune for a suitable oil

How did you cut the perspex nice and neat mate?

Just using a jigsaw (fine cut blade) with tape on the cut line. Perspex is quite forgiving if you take your time ...practice on some scraps and you will get the feel. It will plane and file very neatly also. Easy to work with just reduce the pressure 👍 It will also mill and you can use a router ......... Its a fine line between cut and melt. You will soon pick up the skill.

If you draw a fine file along the cut edge you should attain a very decent finish
