  1. I just had mine done ( crossover pipes ) on Friday. If we're all talking about the same thing, I paid £490 all in including a wheel alignment afterwards ( subframe off ), and from the discussion about it on here beforehand, that wasn't expensive.

  2. In my experience, it takes a tankful to see a difference. Usually more critical on a modified turbocharged car with regards to longevity, I doubt using a lower octane fuel on an NA car matters as much. Bizarrely, out of all the stuff I own, our Lexus IS300 responds best to high octane fuel, much more responsive. Esso are doing a 99 octane, reputedly the best on the market. My Evo likes it........

  3. Hi, as others have said, the brakes are fairly straightforward. I did mine for about £400 using all Brembo parts. The one headache I had though was the small bolt holding the bracket for the caliper hardline to the hub on the OSF snapping, despite trying to be mega careful to avoid this, meaning a helicoil in my case 

    Mine had a drip of oil from the engine gearbox joint, initially thought to be the RMS, fixed by tightening a tensioner. Hopefully you might get lucky.

Esso have a 99 ron now, reputedly better than anything else due to extra detergents, etc. My 400 brake Evo has taken very kindly to this turn of events, as have I with an Esso station half a mile away! I had the Evo out recently for the first time in ages, took it in for a catastrophically expensive service, brimmed it with this stuff and went out to play on my favourite roads.

    One of the ways I can tell whether a fuel is any good or not is to measure knock, the Esso stuff performs very well in that respect, to the point where I wondered whether or not the device I use to measure it with was actually working! Confirmed when I snagged the rev limiter when having a friendly altercation with a Ferrari on the way home, and the noise of doing so sent the meter into the stratosphere!

    I'm another of the opinion that the extra cost is offset somewhat by the extra mpg. I use SU on everything I own, it makes a difference on some vehicles more than others, oddly more on my old Lexus IS300 than most.

  5. I bought a 2005 3.2S manual to use, and a damaged 987.2 3.4S PDK to repair. This was at the end of 2015, and I only did it because a house move I was in the middle of looked like it was going to fall through and I thought I was going to have some spare money. Typically, immediately I did that, the house purchase came back on, and I sold the earlier car on here a month after I bought it. I basically drove it from Torquay to Southampton where I lived at the time on the day of purchase, and again when I accompanied the next owner on the test drive!

    Fast forward to the summer the following year, relocation to Newcastle completed, finances not in the tatters I had expected, and I had my first look on BoXa.net for the first time in six months, only to find a great looking high spec sensible miles and price '05 3.2S  just up the road. I wasn't especially enamoured with my first one, but felt it was unreasonable to judge them all based on such a short time with it, and bought it.

    Still got it. I don't get to drive it much due to work commitments and ongoing house renovations, but when I do I'm always glad I made the effort to try again. Every time I look at it, I remember how little I gave for it compared to what it feels and sounds like to drive. I just don't think I'd get the same outlay versus reward ratio with anything more expensive.

    I never even got to drive the repaired car, my best mate bought it the day the repairs were finished. He's still got it and loves it, but I didn't want a PDK car for myself, so that all worked out ok.

  6. I had about a dozen small dents taken out of my Mk1 MR2 by a PDR guy last year, and the results were amazing. One of the dents was on top of a strengthening brace on the engine lid. The guy heated up the end of the bar he was using and pushed it into the mastic holding the 2 panels together to access the dent. Another right on the sharp corner of the rear quarter. Invisible repair. If you get someone who knows what they're doing, they're worth their weight in gold. Cost me £110, he took dents out of 5 panels.

    I really would like to do something about them, heavy week for cars coming up generally though. MR2 goes in for a 6 speed box conversion, along with bigger driveshafts, clutch, front discs, pads and braided hoses, central locking alarm and fuel filter on Thursday. Haven't dared ask what the cost of that's going to come in at!

    Drove the Porsche properly this morning for the first time in a year, I'd forgotten what a lovely thing it really is. Even better with new brakes, so no judder now. Tyres still required, so those wheels still aren't out of the running just yet.
