I've always been against radiator grills as on my MX5 they increased engine temps, but having just forked out for a replacement pair of condensers (a year after the dealer I bought the car from had just replaced them) with what looked like two leaks from the o/s condenser. I'm considering fitting a set to the Cayman.

What is the general concensus? does it increase temps? if not the DIY route looks quite easy or is it Zunnsport all the way?

    Thanks in advance

I've driven through Spain in excess of 42+ temps with no impact on having grills fitted.  Car temps, oil and water all normal.  Why wouldn't you fir them or perhaps you like having new shiny rads every 1-2 years?😉😉

  2. Noise is also dependent as to whether the car is pre or post GPF.  As an ex 981 driver and now a per GPF 718 driver, I really can't fault the experience.  Yes it doesn't roar as the 981 but it does make a lovely noise sound and the acceleration is mind blowing - wheel spin in second gear is "normal".😊

Just found the tour on their website, looks superb👍

Just back from the trip.  Superb roads for the most part but really spoilt by all the speed cameras around northern Europe!  Nearly every village had a 30kpm (19mph) limit on them with many hidden cameras. Then the confusing 50/70/80 and 90 kpm signs dotted seemingly randomly around the A & B roads didn't make for a relaxing drive.  On the up side the Alpine passes were great fun to drive on but sometimes spoilt by bikers taking more than their fair share of the roads on hairpin corners!  I think next year I'll return to Spain for the quieter roads and superb tarmac and less cameras. Stelvio picture attached.

  4. Hi Stark9

Been really lazy this year and booked a trip with Scenic Car Tours "Hidden Treasures of Italy".  Normally plan my routes and book hotels myself each year but somehow couldn't be bothered this year. Still seems like a good trip.  A couple of Boxsters also going as well as other makes, old and new.  I'll let you know when we get back.

  5. +1 for the Goodyear Eagles.  I replaced the P Zeros N1 on my 981 and then my 718 with the Eagles and toured Europe two up with full luggage over high Alpine and Pyrenees passes as well as very hot temps in  central Spain without a grumble from the tyres. (or the passenger😊)

    Tested: 2017 Porsche 718 Cayman S PDK Automatic (caranddriver.com)

    From another forum -

" I took my Boxster S to the local drag strip (bone stock on the factory Pirelli tires) and did a 11.722 @ 117.12mph. That's roughly 3/10th of a second quicker than the 12.0 1/4 mile that Car and Driver reported. Based on my car's 60 foot time of 1.742 and 1/8th mile of 7.547 @ 93.47mph it probably hit 60mph in under 3.5 seconds."

    Says it all really.

With a 0-60 of c3.5secs, do you find it too fast for the road as you are hitting the speed limit v quickly indeed.

    😁

718s with PDK and Chrono 0-62 time is 4.2 sec. a whole lot slower (.7 secs) than your figures.  Still a thrill though when you open the throttle up to overtake etc.😊

  8. Two new front tyres fitted today - Goodyear Eagles 235x35x20 to match the back pair 265x35x20.  Had some difficulty finding them as there seems to be a shortage at most normal fitters?  Anyway they all now match and replace the Pirellis which wore very quickly at the rear, only just over 11k.  The fronts now replaced at 17k.  A much quieter tyre and hopefully better mileage.

How come it was quite a bit less than the first price Northway quoted you. Also, what were your impressions of Northway.

The final price was lower than my original estimate because I factored in a belt replacement and Northway said this wasn't necessary due to the low mileage and condition of the car.

A friendly bunch of people with a great reputation amongst the Porsche fraternity.  Most, if not all of them are ex Porsche technicians poached from OPC Reading which is just a short drive away and they use Porsche parts.  I first took my 981 to them a few years ago and they did an excellent job and as soon as my 718 was out of Porsche warranty it was a no brainer due to the OPC cost against theirs.  Porsche, of course will not like this if I ever want to trade it in with them. On the plus side I saved over £1k for petrol vouchers and smiles😉.

  10. Just collected he car from Northway Porsche and the bill came to £667 inc. VAT, Major service, Plug and brake fluid change and a MOT!  Spent a little more at Tesco filling the tank.  It stopped at £99, the credit card limit, and it still wasn't full!!

I'm off to Spain/Portugal and France next week for 21 days driving and sight seeing, it'll be interesting to compare fuel prices.

  11. Just to round this off, I've now booked the car in to Porsche Northway (near OPC Reading) for the princely sum of £770 +VAT (fixed price servicing).  Saving around £1,200.  Can't see how Porsche can justify their charges but there again I guess they don't need to!

  12. My 718s is coming up for it's 4 year service in June this year.  Due to Buttercup it's only done 14K miles but will get a good workout this year in Spain/Portugal and France😆.However, it will need the service before we go.  With this in mind I called into Reading OPC to get a quote.  See attached image!!UNovOtE.jpg?1

Those items with a blue cross against them are "optional" sir.  I guess I'll be visiting my local Indie even though I've got Extended Warranty until next year.

they work in cold weather too FYI ;)

No kidding!! 😃 But in my case why bother when I have a 4x4 and another saloon car to use during the icy months?
