Happy to oblige. My photos here and others in same thread

Fabulous, thanks for that, personally I like the liquid metal colour but struggle with the black wheel finish on them all, think the 993 and 964 look the best of them.

Anyone had a nosey underneath one.?

Had a good poke around the one in Leeds OPC last year when picking up some parts (pics below), but not underneath sadly, colour looks great and as @map says it'd be easy to get to £20k with the things they've done, especially considering what OPC hourly rate is - the Leeds one has been reduced from the original £29k already, I think if you had deep pockets and were in the market a cheeky offer might get it for a bit less again, but then you'd have to REALLY want it to drop £20k+ on one.

Personally not a fan of the black wheels but can see why they did them, would've liked to see all the restored models together even just in a pic - having only seen 986S, 964 and one pic of the 993.

  3. Text below taken from Topgear website in 2018 detailing the 20 cars Porsche restored, I've highlighted the cars they did in red.

To mark the marque’s 70th anniversary, 20 restorations have been commissioned by the British arm of Stuttgart’s premier sports car profferer, and will include front-engined, mid-engined and rear-engined models. No word on Macan Diesels, though…

Porsche says: “Each car has undergone a bare metal restoration and is beautifully finished in a special ‘Liquid Metal’ silver paint, which was developed especially for the 918 Spyder hybrid super sportscar. A full engine rebuild, some using a new ‘short block engine’ (as available for Boxster and Type 996 911 models), has also been carried out.” Because, as the internet is happy to exaggerate, some of Porsche’s early dalliances with water-cooled boxer engines weren’t the most bulletproof engines in the world…

Besides a 70 Years of Porsche plaque and some special seat trimming, there are precious few details to separate the 20 restored cars from a really clean Boxster, 911 or 928, for example – the idea was to maintain originality.

In terms of models to look out for, the 20 cars include:

    • 10 first-gen ‘type 986 Boxster S
    • 2 996-gen 911s, one a C2 manual, the other a Turbo
    • 1 993-gen 911
    • 1 964-gen 911, pictured above
    • 1 G-series 911

    There’s also a 914, a 924, a 924 Turbo, a 928 and a 968 among the restored 20.

Actually drove it!  Our day to go shopping this week.  Roof down for the first time this year as well.  Left it parked with roof down too.  Might have upset a few people with this move on reflection, but they were soon distracted by a loud Maserati driving round the car park taking their attention away.

I did exactly the same, first time out in Boxster for a week (since our last social distancing big shop) sun was out so I really don't see the problem in putting the roof down and enjoying the drive, I don't recall anything saying we should be miserable while we are being socially responsible, and apart from the one long dog walk a day it's the only time I am out and about for 7 days...

  5. Sun was out yesterday so gave the old girl a decent snow foam and polish in advance of fitting my winter wheels & tyres at the weekend, dried off the best way with a roof down, spirited drive.

Also took advantage of some silly Black Friday discounts and got full set of discs, pads, sensors and dampers etc (saved getting on for £275 too) mine aren't quite ready to be changed but daft not to save the money, would have preferred Brembo discs all round but ECP didn't have fronts - and their Mintex fronts were a stupid £14.54 each !!! also picked up a new horn (one seems to have failed) and some new wipers for winter.

    Hello NicGun

Here are some images to get you going.

The front Speakers are SPG-10C2, follow the how to below, for fitting.

A Dremel will be handy as will a good glue gun, to bond them in.

You need these connectors to swap from the Porsche wiring loom.

    Rear speaker with crossover.

This is the Becker I fitted, had it stashed in the loft, the previous head unit was probably killed by the incorrect fitting of the Bose and its low impedance (2.5 ohms)

    Remove multiple Torx screws

Strip out all the original speakers and wires.

Remove the core of the speaker (Dremel) as you reuse the outer section.

    Rewire with fresh speaker wire.

Rear wool lining to help with sound quality.

    The loom adapter.

@Barryn Thanks a million, gives me another little project to sort over the summer, one last question did you route the rear speaker cables either side of the seats or centrally through console?

    Hi Patt

Thanks, yes your are right it needs something in there. 👍🏻

I wanted rid of the 2.5 Ohm system, so I could run directly to my Becker.

I used the wool fibre in the image to fill the voids, worked a treat, sounds far better than the original setup.

@Barryn Any chance you can post a simple, step by step how to and the speakers etc used? - would be super helpful as I've got a Bose sub shelf to gut and install into my 986S running factory CDR22 - here's hoping 🤞

    Here's a pic...

As others have observed that looks like poor prep prior to refurb to me, by comparison my standard 986S 17"s were refurbished by Exel Wheels in May 2012 (before my ownership) and since then have covered around 17k miles with at least one tyre change, they are still almost perfect aside from a single chip on one of them, presumably by a very sharp stone.

So I'd be inclined to get the company that refurbed them to have a look, especially considering you've not had any tyre changes in that time.

Fitted a Yatour Bluetooth hands free kit to the Becker Radio, changed the leaking headlight washer and gave the car a quick wash.

I didn’t get around to wiring in the phone cradle to the fuse box though.

Out of interest how easy was the Yatour to fit? I've got one on the way for my 986 S.

Will follow with interest as I'll be doing the same in the spring, coming from an MX-5 the long throw gear change of my 986S, compared to the short, slick, rifle bolt change in the MX-5 is the only thing I miss.
