  1. The Mr12Volt? It needs switched power and the orange fibre optic cable attached, so I think most people either put it under the driver's seat where the phone module goes, or in the frunk where the CD changer & satnav are.

  2. Mr12Volt pretends to be the CD multichanger, so I don't believe you can have both working.

But you can put an SD card in the Mr12Volt and this appears as 5 of the CDs with the last CD changing modes between Bluetooth/USB/AUX - I can't see why you'd still want to use the CD multichanger, and the dash slot still works if you're a nostalgist (like I am).

    Highly recommended!

  3. It was pretty easy - I tried to cover the whole roof before it dried out where I started, using a medium sized paintbrush. Sounds very similar to the Protex stuff in that it's very light and inky and soaks right into the roof material.

I also used the Renovo cleaner and waterproofer and I don't think these are any better than the Autoglym I'd been using previously.

Pictures below of before; after 1 coat; after 2 coats - I think it was much brighter for the bottom middle photo so that's misleadingly blue!

  4. I did my blue top with Renovo almost a year ago, it's definitely worth doing and I didn't find it significantly changed the colour.

I'd give you an opinion on how it's held up a year later but feels like the roof has been wet for the last 2 weeks...

  5. I've just had mine changed at 110,000 miles - drove fine before although reversing uphill was getting painful but wow does the clutch feel different afterwards!

  6. I had something similar, the top mount was split.

Is the rubbing wheel still centered in the arch? (or just matching the other side)

Mine were not but I had not noticed!

  7. indeed, the main beam gives higher illumination but it's definitely no brighter than the nighteyes!

it's really hard to evaluate unless you just change 1 bulb, I was actually pretty impressed with the 987 lights - they're much better than my Giulietta and I don't drive much at night.

I just thought I'd try  LED bulbs as they're so easy to change but immediately after changing I was driving in heavy rain and they were terrible, I thought I'd fitted the bulbs incorrectly!

  8. short journeys do sound like they could be a problem - the previous owner was doing 8k a year, but I've done 10k in 3 years, with an increasing amount of that being 4 miles to the supermarket and 4 miles back, although mixed in with some much longer drives.

I'm not changing my holiday plans, its just which car to take - and it's my Alfa Giulietta's turn for a service on Monday!

  9. Picked the car up yesterday.... large bill :(

What they said was the oil in the sump was "sludgy" and on inspection had metal fragments in it - but when they checked the oil filter (and fuel filter?) there was no metal.

The previous oil change & minor service 2 years ago was done at a different specialist and I don't know how thorough they are.

They suggest to carry on driving (I don't track it or anything like that) and take a closer look next year when I planned to get the clutch changed.

Sooo... road trip to the South of France or not?

  10. I think they said it was fragments, need to get some more info next week.

I guess I'm cheered a bit by the fact that no one has said it's an inevitable write-off (so far) but my drive down to Italy over the summer looks like it's going to be in a different car now. ☹️

The bright side is it passed the MOT with no advisories?

  11. Took my 987 in for the major service and MOT today not expecting any problems - drives great, doesn't use any oil, clutch is still fine.

However, the garage, who are Porsche specialists, called back to tell me that amongst a load of other standard maintenance stuff they'd found some metal in the oil - was last changed in 2019 about 8,000 miles ago.

This was a bit of a shock -  it's a 2006 2.7, and already on 106,000 miles which I thought was going to be a pretty safe bet given all the known problems (although I don't know the engine number). I haven't had a chance to speak to them in detail yet, but they were suggesting that given there don't seem to be any engine problems I shouldn't do anything immediately - drive it a bit and check the oil again I guess?

Any thoughts on what this might be and the best way to move forward?
