I would so not want to be in a serious shunt in that car. Not a diss and not because of Jimmy Dean - same with any car with 50's early 60's safety features.

Also I've never driven one but I suspect that a 2.5 on skinny tyres would be great fun to drive.

    Agreed, basically no safety features

Petrol tank over your feet ready to explode in a crash. Which is what it apparently did in the track incident.

I'm an experienced driver, 1776cc tuned engine was enough for the brakes.  The next owner went to 2ltr. Way to powerful for its 750kg weight and drum brakes.

The resultant crash was easy to predict

decided to bin the wheel bolt covers. and the locking wheel bolts. way more faff than they are worth. just bought twenty covers, and immediately mullered one trying to get it off again, which then got stuck in my wheel wrench since the crappy plastic cover removers did nothing.

just ordered a set of 20 zinc coated bolts, no lockers. looking forward to simplicity again.

if anyone wants to pinch my 20 year old 17" wheels which now have no locking key, i'm based in leamington spa. not that the lockers would have stopped anyone anyway.

I binned the lockers ages ago. Kept the plastic over covers.A dab of chain lube inside the covers makes popping them off easy. I use long nosed pliers and removal is simple.

I threw the silly provided tool away as it is rubbish

As per my previous post, it is not just one microswitch but two....

No, definitely only one micro switch in this windscreen unit.

There is another in the rear of the clam shell cover.

Anyway,  job done in minutes with the nice new switch

  4. Design 911 delivered via DHL ( aka Drop it, Hide it ,Lose it)

    In 24hrs to my door

    Fitted in 10mins

15mins it total and roof is fully working.

    Cost £59

When you see the bodged one it replaced, you can see why it wasn't working.

Fingers crossed that's it job done

  5. Ill probably buy

A new microswitch unit from 911 design . This unit looks a bit bodged.

My hands are way too unsteady to solder ( shaky right hand, medical issues)

I've found the dual relay, all clean terminals, nothing loose inside replaced it in its slot. Still not working.

It's a £58 fix for after the bank holiday (microswitches)

Super common and yes, ideally you need a new one but like the last person who took that apart, you could fudge it.

Be careful removing the spring clips as they bend easily and you need to reuse them tbh

    Cheers

I guess there is a "relay" hiding somewhere in the car I should also check ???

  7. Hello all.

Just taxed the car as corvid regs relaxing means it's actually worth getting out of the garage

    Hurrah

    And roof is not working

    No noises

    Handbrake light ( MICROSWITCH)

    Working ok

    Fuses number 3 row D 30amp ok

    Fuses number 6 row B 15smp ok

    Car is yr 2000 986 2.7

    But

This micro switch above the interior light looks a bit naff.

I can't seem to post the picture , but one of the soldered bars looks like it's not factory solder. It's also loose in the holder.

    I guess I need a new one ?

Sunflower oil is messy too, linseed is better!

I would check the handbrake switch first after a long layup it might be stuck

It's working ( light on dash shows that ) The handbrake is not set when the cars in storage / garage

This happened last year. I removed the micro switches above the mirror / interior light.  Worked it and used electrical contact cleaner and it worked all year.

I think month's inaction has meant it's stuck

  9. Well

After 3yrs I remembered that I have never used the spare key on the boxster

You know where this is going!

Battery in the key was flat ( not unexpected ) so I took the key and had a new battery fitted......

Alas it's still not working even using the tips on recoding. ......

So now I have three keys, two remote keys and the service key

But only one operating remote key..........

Hey ho the joys of boxster 986 ownership

I even finally fixed the clock / oil gauge bulb

  11. Today I've ordered from Paul Adamson of this parish, the rear speaker grills and the 4" speaker hangers

I'll soon have rear speakers in the 986......

Must get some  actual speakers , speaker wire, connectors, plugs to attach to the rear of the cdr22 unit.........
