  1. Thanks Guys.

Not a key swap problem, same key always used. Seems like it occasionally thinks it’s left hand drive but the problem is it only does it after it’s been stood a while. Once I have reset it it keeps its settings as long as I use it within a few day (not had the inclination to check the actual amount of days) basically it has a mind of its own and I will just disconnect it and set it manually rather than pay the price of a PIWIS. It’s just bloody irritating after laying out for a new motor.

  2. It has the memory function and has been reset numerous times. It also has the dipping passenger mirror on reverse and this is not causing any problems. I thought someone on here would have had the same problem at some point over the last 20 odd years and come up with an answer.

  3. Hi Guys.

My drivers door mirror has developed a mind of its own. Sometimes on unlocking the door the mirror goes into a weird dance with glass pointing at the floor. I aired this issue on here before and was informed it might be the motor. I have replaced the motor with a new one from Porsche. This seemed to fix the problem for a couple of days then it returned. The odd thing is, it does not do it every time and there does not seem to be any sequence. Anyone got any ideas on what it might be. It’s got to be electronic but I’ve no idea where to start.

    Cheers Ken.

Had this problem many years ago on my 987. A new motor fixed it. Must have been something to do with the position sensor in the motor.

    Thanks Batman.

I did have a feeling that because it just started with no obvious reason that it must be fault somewhere. I am just trying to narrow it down. It can’t really be that much as it’s only a switch and a motor at the end of the day.

Just goes to show check OPC first you may be surprised at their prices😊

Kenbo 1000 how is the drive for you after the mod

Hi Kevin. Status Porsche who I mentioned is a breakers yard that only breaks Porsches. They have a large warehouse and they strip all the individual parts and have them on racking. All in all a decent set up. As for the the strut braces, it does seem to tighten the front end a little in the steering department especially going into corners but not really given her the beans yet.

  6. Re-done all the key calibration including wiping the memory and starting again, makes no difference. Been through the onboard systems to no avail. There is no reason for this to be happening it just started last Wednesday and has continued since. It’s not a major problem resetting the mirror before driving but I like things to be right.

    But thanks anyway.

  7. Thanks to the link in these posts I purchased mine from Status Porsche in Stockton on Tees for £16. Two struts, one back plate (not needed) and the plastic infill’s. Quick visit to hardware store for bolts then a rub down and paint and Bobs your uncle. Fitted in about an hour without to much trouble.

Status Guy said “they are cheap because no one wants them”

any, thanks for the excellent write up. It made the job a doddle.

  8. Hello people.

I have developed a strange problem on my 987.2. When unlocking the car with the remote the drivers mirror starts moving then comes to rest in the down position. I have done all the resets but all to no avail.

Anyone else come across this problem and hopefully worked out what the problem is and mote importantly, how to cure it.

    thanks in advance.

    Ken

  9. Your picture of your AOS is different to mine. Here is the number for the one on my car 0PB115099A.
I think the one for my 987.2 is the newer version and seems to be easier to change.

  10. Did mine a month ago. The AOS was relatively easy to change (just take your time and have all the gear you will need, YouTube video’s are available) but the plastic pipe that splits into two and goes to the inlet manifold seems to made of toilet paper. If you look at it it cracks and splits, mine broke into two pieces. New one is £65 from Porsche.
I took mine into AHRS to have the PDK fluid changed and a hydraulic leak traced. The leak was a split pipe from the power steering pump, £150 for the part from Porsche! Anyhow as the new AOS breather was in the boot he chucked it on for free. It’s relatively easy to change you just need good finger strength to squeeze the ends to release them.

    Good luck.

  11. Decided to change the AOS (cheaper from Porsche) as it’s about due a change. Went to disconnect the three way pipe the goes from the aos to the plenum, as soon as I disconnected the aos end and went to move it slightly out of the way…..snap. Yes it snapped in two places heyho £61 from local opc with some serious discount, aos change not to bad a job but be careful with the pipes they seem to be made of tissue. We went to Sports cars in the Park near Ripon and met some nice people of like mindedness. Followed a couple of Lambo’s out of the event and went for it as did everyone, got about 200 meters when car started sounding like a tractor and went into limp home mode (eeeek the fear) turns out that a couple of coil packs had given up and were suffering heat soak problems. I decided because of my arthritis in my hands flaring up that I would take it to Alan at AHRS (local Indy) cost of Beru packs £275 ish and also had him change my PDK fluid and give her a once over. So with wallet somewhat lighter I now have my baby back and running as she should. Alan’s once over only revealed that my exhaust connection studs are rotten and will need changing these are the ones after the manifold 3 per side. So a huge thanks to Alan for his help and advice he is a really good bloke and worth a call if your in County Durham.

  12. Found out that we now have a Porsche specialist not 5 miles away. AHRS Porsche. He is located near Bishop Auckland and specialises in engine rebuilds. He used to be a Porsche racing mechanic in Kent. Anyhow took it to him and he immediately diagnosed that it was the power steering pump. It needed topping up with fluid. He did say it’s quite common and scares the daylights out of owners. One for the memory bank I think.
Anyway he is going to look at it later to see if the rack is leaking.

Many thanks to everyone who commented with suggestions.

    Ken.

  13. Update. Removed belt and no untoward noises from any pulleys in fact it was just as normal so put it back together and went for a little drive and it starts to whine when it gets under a little load. Put into neutral and rolled a little and the noise was still there. Standing still and ticking over no bother. Plugged my reader in and no faults found. Anybody got any ideas….

  14. Cheers bud.

did wonder about that. Will spin them first to see if there is anything obvious. Still have a niggle it’s the starter motor but will check everything else first. If it is the starter I might as well change the AOS and the oil Cooler seals. But we will see.

  15. Hi Guys I need a bit of help here.

Started the Boxster yesterday and it made a horrible noise similar to a starter motor stuck in mesh. I drove about 10 feet then parked it up as I was on my way out. When I came back I started the car again the noise had seemed to have gone. Took it for a drive and it seemed ok but on further listening it still there but very faint. Today I removed the engine panels to see if I could trace the noise but no joy. There are no management lights on and the engine seems to be running as normal other than for the noise. It’s now like a very low whine.

Anyone got any ideas on where to check. I did listen to a YouTube clip of a starter motor not releasing and it was the same horrible noise but stayed on mine until it was parked up, about 2-3 minutes.

    any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks Ken.

  16. Thanks for all the info Jonttt. Followed your instructions to the letter including the mk5 Golf lock. Did it all in 2.5 hrs so not bad really. The only fiddly bit was the flexible door lock rod into it’s  hole. The metal one was a doddle but that flexible…….

I had the PSM light as well but a short drive reset it. Now door is working as it should so thanks once again for the blog.

I have also posted my thanks on “What have you done to your 987 today” section.

    Ken.

  17. Did the dreaded door lock mechanism yesterday by following the write up by Jonttt.
if you are going to do this I suggest you read his blog and then read it a couple of times more. It relatively straight forward but fiddly especially getting the door lock shaft into the hole (ooh errr missus). The tip about the lock being the same as a MK5 golf is correct and will save you a bundle of cash.

i have also had the front bumper and bonnet re-sprayed because of stone chips. This was done locally at a cost of £750. Also had two front p zero’s fitted and a four wheel tracking done. Hopefully that it for now.
    Ken.

  18. I did once buy one of the small bolts that hold in the rear light and that was sheer extortion, but as you said needs must but not this time. I  will alter some other spring clip or visit OPC. Have changed air filter today, bit of a bugger to get onto the flange but not that bad.Mine also has the Bose unit and Porsche must have been short of wire when they were fitting it, there must be a whole half inch of play in the wire. While the lid was off I cleaned the engine and blew out the drain holes with the air line. Ordered some black aluminium mesh and as soon as that arrives I will remove the bumper again and fit it in the vents. I am really enjoying this period and learning about the Porsche as I go.

    Stay safe everyone.

  19. Re: bonnet clips. OPC closed due to virus. 911 Porsche want my eyes as well my money. £8 for clip, £2.59 vat and £4.95 postage. Total £15.54. Yes £4.95 postage, are these people for real and how are they still in business. I know it’s only £15.54 but I very much resent being taken for a fool and then robbed for postage. If it costs them 95p Postage I would be surprised. I will wait for OPC to reopen as there is no rush and it will save me paying stupid postage (Profit) costs. I know people will think I am tight but If we keep paying these stupid prices they will keep on charging them. Rant over. Air filter arrived today along with magnetic wing protector so going to fit that and then that’s the car fully oiled, filtered and plugged changed ready for when we can go out again. Will stick it on the CTek charger to keep it in good battery health.
