Update car has run loads better since new coil packs and plugs but still smells rich after a run and still get misfire codes on cylinder 1 2and 3 anyway went to an independent porsche garage a postie friend of mine found 3mile away from where I live
Explained issue to him today and he said most likely maf sensor goes in his store room and pulls one out said fit and let me know so I fitted it cleared codes and went for blast stopped 3 times plugged in scanner no error codes and car don't smell rich anymore went back to garage and he said give me £50 for maf so gave him £60 and told him to get a drink
Really nice guy and knows porsche will be using again

Fixed coil packs and plugs came from design911 this morning so fitted em this afternoon.
Beru coil packs a lot better made than the cheapo's I put on 2years ago better quality plastic and deeper heads
Anyway coil pack cylinder 5 had broke where the electrical connector plugs in so pretty sure that was the misfire took it for a run and defo back on 6 and no error codes
-
Single misfire on cylinder 5
Limped home on drive now until parts arrive then limp to garage about 3mile away for them fit 6new coil packs and 6new plugs so back into the wife's crv to get to work

Started missing on Tuesday night tonight defo only running on 5 cylinders cleared codes and it came straight back
Pretty sure either a coil pack or plug so set of beru coils packs and plugs on order another lesson learnt never buy cheap coil packs lol
But the good old 2.5 still puts a smile on my face even when running rough

Well I booked it in for engine diagnostic to see if it highlights or pinpoints the issue so hopefully they won't do any other work without my OK the first place I tried who couldn't get me in untill October was revolution not living in that area I don't know what porsche specliast there are but nothing in Stoke where I live and at least I get to see my sis as she lives near leeds

You don't need to know where they run. Just check any vaccum pipe running off the intake. If you have removed the TB before then make sure the rubber couplers are seated correctly and you haven't trapped or pinched anything putting it back together.
From memory there is one vac pipe about 2mm in diameter and its plugs into one of the rings and I know that one is in but will try and check the ring seating at weekend thinking about it if it was cam deviation then I would expect it to run like a total dog and it don't so hopefully an air leak but even if I can't solve it at least once been to strasse I will know what I am looking at and then can work best course of action from there
-
Did clean out throttle body when first had car but don't know enough to check where the vac pipes run

It could be an intake leak. You can clean of the intake tract and if you haven't already clean up the throttle body and plenum. Then get some carb cleaner and spray around any joins. If there is a leak it will be sucked in and you will notice the change in engine note. Inspect any vacuum pipes too. They can perish and go brittle with age.
Well got it booked into strasse porsche for 31st Aug for engine diagnostic and get to see me sis as well as she lives just out of leeds

Hope turns out to be an air leak, should be a cheaper fix
Yes hope so I love the car but at Mo seems I am spending every week on it but to be fair I knew nothing about porsche when I bought it so if it did go know a lot more now and it would be another boxster but hopefully won't come to that

^^^^This or try another specialist, I personally would be reluctant to drive it.
My car is a keeper so would spend the money sorting it.
Just emailed a local vag specliast and the car runs fine so revolution did say also could be an air leak which is why I want to get it diagnosed before I go any further
-
OK so ever since I had my 2.5 boxster it's trips engine management light every few weeks I read the dtc's and clear the codes which are always
State voltage signal emissions
Misfire cylinder 1misfire cylinder 2 misfire cylinder 3 and sometimes the other 3cylinders as well
Car has had new cats and o2 sensors in last 3months coil packs and plugs when I first bought it and it's still tripping the engine management light
Also fast idle emissions are high at mot so think it's all connected
I have contacted revolution porsche and they can't book it in to second of Oct at earliest as they are busy but on the info I supplied him they think cam deviation error /chain guides and they don't think a non porsche specliast would have the kit to diagnose this.
So is it worth trying another porsche specliast and if it is chain guides is it worth spending the money on they quoted around £1500
It does rattle for a few seconds on startup first thing in morning so sort of makes sense what he is saying
Do I keep running it and keep knocking light off or is it time to let it go not sure I want to chuck another £1500 at it or do I try and get it diagnosed at another porsche specliast but none local to where I live
Any ideas or advice welcome

I might be putting up a drive out in the Peaks if you fancy coming along.
Peaks not that far away for me when we're you thinking @Nobbie

Got car back last night and done several short trips this morning seems fine so far no blown fuses and no cutting out so looks like new fuel pump relay may of done the trick but will monitor for a few days defo sounds good with the dansk backbox and top down
-
Broken boxster blues that's funny as it's an ocean blue boxster
And no idea when I will get it back from garage they were road testing last night and going to ring me still waiting for call
-
Totally appriceate that a good diesel will blow me away but my 2.5 is still in garage after breakdown and I just lost a bit of faith in her at Mo and I Aggree the extra power of a 2.7 is minimal but also better the devil I know may be the better option defo would be enticed by an s but a good one is a bit beyond my budget at present

-
Would you move from a 2.5 to a 2.7 boxster that's 4years newer than the 2.5 and has about 30,000 less miles on it or should I just look for an s?
Seen a trader selling 2 2.7 although one has previously been a cat c but tempted to look at the other one
-
Yes same garage it always goes too
When they put a fuse in it they couldn't find fault with pump and it's been fine since it was fitted in Nov untill Tuesday so could be a wiring fault but nothing has changed on car at front end since the mot which was also nov
-
Pump is still under warranty but I am worried if they fit the pump and it still cuts out and blows the fuse
When orginal pump went it coughed and stuttered this now just blows the fuse and cuts out no warning at all
-
OK my 98 2.5 cut out on way home on Tuesday night on a roundabout
Anyway after 2.5hour wait rac diagnosed faulty fuel pump and towed me to the garage I normally use local independant
Fuel pump fuse had blown and rac put new fuse in and it blew straight away and checked there was no fuel getting up to engine.
Garage looked at it Thursday put a new fuse in and took it for couple of drives in traffic and it ran fine so they rang me to pick it up
Drove to work in it fine Friday morning and back home then went was going to a friends last night been standing about 1and half before I went out again and it died on me again at the exit of a roundabout got the wife to go to halfords and get some 25amp fuses and drop em off to me plugged a fuse in and decided to limp it home and got less than half a mile and it blew fuse again popped in a 3rd fuse and that blew instantly and car would not start so rac recovery again back to garage.
Orginally fuel pump packed up in Nov last year and this was a vdo pump at £194
My question does this sound like a pump issue or the fuel pump relay gone bad?

I had noisy backbox as baffles were gone and was unsure what to do
I found a used dansk back box on ebay for £350 delivered it's has a small dent in it but otherwise not been on donor car that long was in very good condition and cost £120 to get fitted with new brackets supplied by exhaust centre but then I didn't want the drone
It's not any louder than orginal box but does have a deeper note which I like so search ebay ads you may be lucky
Airbag light just scanned

OK so think I have same issue airbag light came on Friday night after turning left on roundabout cleared with my scanner but it came back on yesterday cleared again can you see the part number of clock spring without taking wheel off? Just removing airbag module?
It's a 2.5 98 boxster so has 4spoke wheel
