Thanks for the insight! There's a garage we use frequently at work who are able to code it all, so shouldn't be an issue.

Solid advice. I did plan to just take the stalk and wire from the cluster and bolt it onto my own, probably easier too

Just as a note when you get the CC programmed  if if doesn’t work it seems from internet searching it’s usually the brake pedal switch something to be aware of even if all other indications seem to work from the switch. The is a member on this site had that problem when programmed

I had a different problem loss of power after braking intermittently so from internet search switch changed prior to programming so I new it was good if there was a problem.

I was considering changing the switch prior to CC programming to eliminate possible problem that people have had when programming not an expensive item in Porsche tax prices  £15 ish ? from OPC not to bad to change just need to flexible
The switch seems to have solved my intermittent fault so far 🤞I have a trip so just the brake pedal switch to consider

Started looking into breakers as no garage or supplier is able to get one "new"

Am I right in saying that buying a full assembly like this will give me the switch (that I can remove) and the wiring harness I need? I think this is what @kevin450 meant

    s-l500.jpg

Then would just need the lower cowl etc

Yes that’s like the  one I bought  the whole assembly not seen the link to photo but from the photos you should see a small harness from the CC switch.
the lower cowl is is easy to cut just take a template from the other side of the cowl to cut out I used a dremmel tool

    Hey all,

Looking to get Cruise retrofitted to my 987.1 before I take it on holiday later this year, and was wondering if anyone knows any garages in or around Northamptonshire that can offer good competitive pricing for it? I got quoted £600 (incl VAT) from Towcester Porsche so looking for anything cheaper than that and local. I don't mind traveling a little bit, or heck, even if someone is selling the kit I can fit it myself and get it coded. Just can't find anywhere in stock that has it

Try dc auotomotive in the USA a Porsche breaker all the parts stalk cable lower cowl $155 plus postage, I’ve just done this got mine via ebay USA via another seller  fond dc automotive  after purchase but I did get 4 stalks and assembly. Easy to install I cut my cowl out just need to fit one screw.

programing CC took longer than the install charged an hour at Indy so overall £300ish plus I have a another 3 stalks and centre as spares or to sell on.

USA to buy parts I think is down to Richard Hamilton recommending

Looking good. What did you use.

I used Car Polishing Pads for Drill,Heatigo 14 PCS Buffing Pad Polishing Wheel Mop Kits with 2 PCS Rouge Compound, Cone/Column/Mushroom/T-Shaped Wheel Grinding Head, for Metal Aluminum from Amazon.
I used nushine metal polish which I already had mainly with the mushroom pad. I would recommend a metal polish on to get the majority of the job done then the polish soap suppliedxlXElAJ.jpg

  5. I did mine removed old with a heat gun cleaned area removed old adhesive if required. Before applying lightly misted area  with water also been told very slightly soaped water either it allows you to move the film into position, the water squeezed out with a credit card style applicator to remove water and bubbles. Small bubbles should dry out in a few days. Just take your time, I think if I remember correctly I could still a slight outline of original position to line up the new guard

I think it raises at 71mph or near that. And of course it can be deployed by pressing that button. But does it actually do anything?

In  the rear area, the flared wheel housings, the retractable spoiler and rear end have all been optimized. Like the front, the radii of the rear side sections have been designed to produce an aerodynamically efficient air flow at the rear wheels and the rear end, which improves resistance and reduces lift at the rear axle.
The increased extension height of the retractable spoiler ensures that the spoiler functions at the optimum aerodynamic operating point and that the desired rear axle lift is attained with the optimum resistance advantage.
The redesigned air inlet in the rear quarter panel takes up the graceful geometric lines of the Carrera GT. The positioning and the opening cross section of the air inlet have been carefully optimized to ensure the maximum possible increase in air flow rate combined with the minimum possible effects on lift and resistance. This way, it has been possible to improve the flow of air through the engine compartment, to lower the temperature in the engine compartment and to optimize the intake of combustion air.

Hi Kevin. Status Porsche who I mentioned is a breakers yard that only breaks Porsches. They have a large warehouse and they strip all the individual parts and have them on racking. All in all a decent set up. As for the the strut braces, it does seem to tighten the front end a little in the steering department especially going into corners but not really given her the beans yet.

    Ken

Thanks for pointing that out  should have recognised Status Porsche that’s who I purchased my struts from via ebay 😳😳😳

Thanks to the link in these posts I purchased mine from Status Porsche in Stockton on Tees for £16. Two struts, one back plate (not needed) and the plastic infill’s. Quick visit to hardware store for bolts then a rub down and paint and Bobs your uncle. Fitted in about an hour without to much trouble.

Status Guy said “they are cheap because no one wants them”

any, thanks for the excellent write up. It made the job a doddle.

Just goes to show check OPC first you may be surprised at their prices😊

Kenbo 1000 how is the drive for you after the mod

Thanks @kevin450, that makes sense. I’ll get them ordered.

I probably ride/drive somewhere near you regularly. Did a circuit around Ruthin yesterday on the bike. The B5105 to Cerrigydrudion is a particular favourite.

Yes the area not to far from me have not done that road route for a while your  route then  back via one side of evo triangle but the speed average is a big downside, to Denbigh then via Ruthin to Mold the Mold Denbigh road is awful quality. I now have the joys of the Welsh governments pilot project area of 20 mph, I think it’s going to get harder to enjoy these roads by the end of next year  if the government have there way

Does anyone know the purpose of the two nylon inserts? Are they essential? I just received my second hand ones and the nearside strut was still assembled into the firewall-end bracket, but there was no nylon insert. I can’t work out what it is meant to do.

As it came with the two big bolts, I may only need to find suitable bolts for the struts.

Yes I think the spacers are required they help prevent the bracket totally squashing  the strut when you tighten the large bolt up and gives support to the bulkhead bracket

the bulkhead bracket you can notice if you squeeze the bracket with your hand where the large bolt goes how it flexes inward the fillers nylon inserts will prevent this give the bracket more strength. I would say Porsche wouldn’t add these if not required for  a reason not expensive from opc

  13. Have been for a longer drive around my  local roads with all the required up downs twist and turns and pot holds etc you get in north Wales the car just feels different in a positive way  definitely not a negative,  I driven this route many times and It felt more positive and poor roads didn’t feel any poorer

it may be a placebo effect but I’ll take it, I’m in no way a qualified F1 driver or track person to give a definitive view of this mod but in my opinion definitely not a negative mod for the price

  14. Fitted the strut braces this morning all went well followed the first thread write up, the only extra to add is my scuttle had a antenna connection at the n/s assume gps so don’t go yanking at the scuttle.

Been for a short drive on a known twisting road for me, and I can say it feels more positive in the front, it  just feels nice definitely a positive mod, no noted difference going over speed humps etc , so at little cost, of £36.01 and 45 mins work in the sunshine this morning it’s a positive not a negative for me

  15. Also just about to do this, struts received from eBay just done a quick rub down and spray painted (not required but I have the spray paint) other parts as stated in first thread from Porsche chester ( excuse to have a look around )with pcgb discount total cost of all the parts from eBay and opc £36.01 hopefully fit in the next few days seeing the weather forecast can’t use that excuse not to do

  16. Hi I'm after a wiring diagram for the brake pedal switch on a 2005 3.2 987.1 triptronic only able to find the  manual diagram with clutch and brake switches, wanting to know how it works on triptronic cruise control and brake lights as I can only see one switch visual . And my part number research says it is the same part number as the manual but cannot find triptronic parts diagram to confirm so wondering if the is a extra set of contacts on the switch not used on manual set up.

reason I'm asking I'm about to fit cruise control and a couple of times at very low speed after pressing the brake pedal ( i think it is so random )I've lost power no response from accelerator only happened a couple of times very odd months in between them,  a few presses of pedals in panic all good again, research said could be brake switch and fitting cruise control is dependant on brake switch and a relative cheap swap. So a diagram would answer a few questions

    Thanks in advance

Yes I did @kevin450, all working now. It was a faulty brake light switch that kept blocking the cruise control speed setting. If all goes well they should be able to code it in very quickly while you wait, but if they get a fault then tell them to stop as they charged me for the time they spent for repeated coding attempts.

I fitted a new brake light switch and it started working immediately, so they had coded it correctly.

Thanks for the reply glad you got it sorted will make a note of a possible fault as brake light switch thanks again

Well the saga continues. Went to OCD Porsche and they had some trouble getting the new stalk to work. It coded properly and the green light comes on when the end of the stalk is pressed, but the system doesn’t work, it won’t actually set a speed.

We/they suspect it could be either the brake switch or the top clutch switch being dodgy and therefore preventing the cruise control activating. Does that make sense?

And then to top the failure off, the bodyshop next door reversed into my rear bumper, so they’ll have to sort that out when I go back :(

    Hi BBB

Did you get your cruise control sorted just fitted lever and cable  not a difficult task also looking at OCD porsche to code
