Not quite done to the car, but the latest edition of Originale arrived from Porsche Classic.  Looking forward to passing a few idle moments reading it.

Yes - I received mine too. Nice protective sleeve and hard back no less! I hope the 986 classic status continues with these unexpected gifts😃

  2. Looks in great condition. I personally like the colour combo too. Mine is an 04 2.7 which is plenty for me, although not driven an S so can’t really compare. Like yours, my gear lever didn’t centre but after a thorough clean and greasing it’s perfectly fine now. Enjoy👍

Good afternoon all, I’ve got a new issue. When I put the hood down yesterday, I noticed that the clamshell no longer sits completely flush. The car thinks it’s down, no lights on the dash. If I press gently on the hood itself, it moves down slightly, and the clamshell moves with it, to an almost normal closed position (but not quite). When the hood is up, the clamshell sits exactly as it should. Any ideas would be welcome!

    Cheers

    Hi Adrian,

I have this problem too, since around this time last year. It's the full width of the Clamshell and not just one side. There have been previous posts on this but I nothing has helped me to determine and rectify the issue, so I will be following this thread with interest! With my own issue, once I had lowered the roof and driven say 400 yards down the rod, the clamshell settles to it's flush position.

My indie said that it was probably the lack of use causing this and that after putting the roof up and down more often it may sort itself. I'm not so sure about this!

Good luck, and update the thread if you find out what's causing this.

I’d refer them to the correspondence they sent saying they would fit your 2003! I’m sure they would allow you to return in this instance, given that you were wrongly advised.

I also messaged them a year or so ago about whether they had any to fit my 2004 986 - and was advised that they don’t, much to my disappointment.

I *thought* the icarsoft unit didn’t work with 9x6 airbag lights - no 1st hand experience but pretty sure I read on here of someone having issues and ending up with the foxwell.

bit of course - I may have that wrong.

I thought the same too - which is why I went down the Foxwell NT530 route.

  6. I am following this with interest as mine developed the same problem at the beginning of the year. I checked everything over and all seems to be as it should be. I oiled / greased all moving parts to no avail.

Interestingly, once I've driven a mile or so down the road the clamshell settles into position when the roof is down (no problem with the clamshell when the roof is up). Mine is a 2004 2.7 with glass window.

I've been waiting for my new company Octavia estate since November (Plug in hybrid right enough), currently stating that it will be December this year.  Its been pushed back 3 times now.  So I'd say 40 weeks would be lucky

I ordered a Skoda Enyaq back in July 2021. It arrived towards the end of June this year - almost (but not quite!) 12 months wait. I was told the wiring looms were made in Ukraine and the windshield from a supplier in Russia! Not sure how true this is though.

    Good luck with your Octavia.

  8. Yes. Exactly my problem! Mine settles a few miles down the road too. Everything seems intact and operating as it should but the clamshell stops 1/2 inch proud when the top is first operated. I intend taking to a roof specialist in Birmingham for them to take a look but haven’t managed to fit it in yet. I’ve used them in the past and found them very good - The Hood Guys.

I will report back once I’ve managed to get it to them but would be interested to hear if others have had this problem and managed to rectify.

  9. I have these wheels on my 04 986 2.7. I believe they were an option when the car was originally purchased.

They are more often seen on the 996.

I had this on a 987.  It was the plastic trim where the roof clips to the rear of the car.  If it isn't clipped on properly, the roof doesn't sit low enough and the clamshell sits high.

    Good luck. :)

I'll have a good inspection when I get home. Interestingly, it had it's annual service in January and I certainly haven't had the hood down since then.

    Thanks for the replies all👍

I did, is it locking shut or can you still lift the clam shell? And does it close with the roof up?

I haven't tried lifting the clamshell, so can't say for certain. The light goes of on the instrument panel to say the process is complete? When the hood is closed, the clamshell shuts and sits nicely flush.

Sounds like teh drive could have dropped out of sync. @TROOPER88 believe you gave advice on this recently?

When you say drive, do you mean the 2 gear boxes - one on either side of the hood? If that's the case then it sounds like it it can possibly be adjusted?

Has anyone had to do this that could shed some light? Any suggestions would be gratefully received.

  13. Having not had the roof down for a few months (a weak excuse, I know, considering the heated seats!), I have seem to have developed a problem with the clamshell alignment. The clamshell no longer wants to completely close when the hood is down, stopping shy of a consistent 1 inch all round. Having read a few posts on this, I have checked that the hood is all correctly attached and I have greased all moving parts but still the clamshell is not completely sitting flush.

Am I right in thinking there is a manual adjustment that can be made, and if so, is it an easy fix? I think the hood might be stopping the clamshell sitting flush.

Any suggestions would be gratefully received.

My previous car had a duplicate service book. Was marked as a duplicate and the service stamps were all from the OPC that supplied the book and noted that they were duplicate stamps with the original opc listed.  I got the redacted job sheet from the original opc

I had to order a new service book from my OPC when I purchased my car - it too, was stamped as duplicate when I received it. The OPC was good enough to stamp all the service records they had carried out on the vehicle (mainly during warranty period). I also received batch of service receipts from independent garages that had carried out work on the car over the years, but don't have their stamps in my new book.

  16. Yeah. I’ve been following Jay Read for a while now when it was his 996. Glad he’s got the Boxster now and looking forward to more content. He’s always sung the praises of the Boxster and has done some interesting comparisons with the 911.

Another option, just ask for discount. 10% is usually forthcoming even if you are not a member of a Porsche related organisation...

If you've manged to register your car on the Porsche Classic register, will this qualify for discount on mats? I'm sure I read that the classic register also includes discount for parts? I might look into this myself. My drivers mat is looking very tired now!

  18. Every 12 months - regardless of mileage. I only did 1,600 miles in 2021 🙄 but just had the old girl serviced and MOT'd yesterday - another pass with no advisories. I really need to get out in it more often and start enjoying it!

  19. It might be worth trying The Hood Guys in Birmingham (0121 444 2288) - www.thehoodguys.co.uk. I used them last year to replace a broken tension wire but they looked like they undertook all sorts of convertible hood repairs including trimming. I appreciate they aren't exactly local but definitely worth a phone call IMO.

At £280 - £350 then damned good value in my book.

Yeah, I thought it wasn't too bad at £282. It was actually £235 + £47 VAT. He was even good enough to put a new key shell on for me, which I sourced from my OPC.

Did both of these include the immobiliser chip in the key or were they repairs or replacement of the electronics?  Just replacing the electronics in the key and a new key head transfering the old blade and immobiliser chip cost me £260 at an OPC 2 years ago.  A complete new key will be somewhat more I believe.

Hi - mine was a complete new key, coded to the car. It operates in exactly the same way as the original. I never felt comfortable having just the one key, for exactly the reasons you mentioned in your earlier post. Worth the money IMO.
