My mechanic told me to leave well alone unless there were signs of leaking - generally its the front pipes that usually fail, not the long ones, but some prefer to swap out the whole lot if they are doing it themselves.

I had the front ones replaced on my previous car for around £400 all in - my current one had already had them done. Seems that they start to leak around 10-12 years old rather than mileage.

There are a few threads on here where people have DIY'd the job - some have been clever and found ways to avoid dropping the front sub-frame completely - its way past my level of car DIY :)

Could I ask where you got yours done please as that seems like a really good price & I’m not too far away from you (Southampton). My local indy quoted well over 1k ☹️

My car is 13yrs old this year so feel like I’m on borrowed time with them now!

    Cheers

Hopefully less often than every few months, also spraying on a coat of some UV resistant gloss lacquer should reduce the rate of fading.

    Yep, exactly that

I applied a couple of coats of this stuff to my Chinese specials & they still look like new after more than a year living outside

Tried de snorkel and have to admit not a massive change to sound but maybe that’s because I’ve already a louder style exhaust. Might re snorkel.

It’s not a massive change but is noticeable from within the cabin and a few revs. I’ve got a standard exhaust though & I could easily imagine a louder one drowning out the sound, as you say

  4. I recently did this, although upgrading from a CDR30. Most difficult part was getting the old unit out! Plenty of room for wires & very easy to run the DAB aerial up the side of the window. Also used an Incartec wiring adaptor & facia which made it a doddle.

I went for a Pioneer SPH-DA230DAB as I wanted some physical buttons & usually have the phone plugged in to keep the battery charged, so not having wireless CarPlay didn’t bother me.

  5. I had mine done by Autoglass. They insisted (due to it being a Porsche) that I went to the local branch rather than have it done on the driveway, but other than that, it went well

For the sake of a tenner & 15mins of work, I’d replace the DAB aerial.

  6. Finally got around to upgrading the head unit, opted for a Pioneer SPH-DA230DAB.

Removing the old CDR30 was a pain, other than that it was a real easy install, helped by an Incartec kit & plenty of space for wires.

Very happy with the results & pleasantly surprised by the improvement in sound quality from the standard speakers.

Considered them for mine. Think they look fantastic on a black car but not so sure against silver (which mine is) so haven’t taken the plunge yet

  8. Black Circles are showing Michelin PS2’s as available that are N rated.

Unless you’ve got a Porsche warranty I would seriously consider not worrying about the N rating and look at options like PS4 / PS4S / PS5 instead.

Heh guys, hope you're all having a better weekend than I. Took time out, cleaned and polished the car and thought a nice drive out was called for whilst the sun shone.....Roof off...and as it lowered into its final position, a horrible 'snap' sound. Got to our short destination, roof would not close and the shell was juddering whilst trying to close with no success. Back home, I managed to open the metal cover fine but the roof did not budge, thankfully easy to manually drag the roof into its closed position and before locking, slight help by manhandling the roof cover back into it's closed position before locking the roof.

SO.....would any of you be able to offer any guidance on what may have happened, is it something that unfortunately may have happened with age (it's 09 and very well looked after) and have never had any issues with the roof at all (apart from elastic hack bringing back to the channel). Am I looking at something quite serious? dealer or Inde fix? Hope someone may be able to shed some light....feeling rather gutted, afternoon out now off the cards....unless its with roof up.....Thanks for any comments, cheers, M

I had similar a few weeks ago. See my post in the link below & if it’s the same part that’s snapped, there’s an eBay link if you scroll down a couple of posts

  10. Does this help? It’s the far right vertical section.

Not the best picture as facing directly in to the sun. Also the full row of LEDs are on across the top as usual, they just don’t show in the picture, but hopefully gives you what you need

Looked at my mileage yesterday  - will have had her for 3 years mid April - 7,000 miles first year- then covid came along and 3,100,  then this year only just scraped over 1000 miles so far 😢

Are you sure it’s covid & nothing to do with not wanting to admit neglect to us as you’re driving a certain 997 more😂

I’ve owned mine a couple of years now  & managed around 4K each year, so a long long way off what some are doing!

Thanks both, presumably it's one of those things that when one goes you do both at same time?

If they are the originals on there then if one goes, the other wont be long behind. If it's already been replaced then not necessarily the case. For the money I'd buy two and you're covered.

Yep, agree with that logic. I didn’t replace both at the same time but now you’ve got me thinking it’s probably a good idea

That looks like a handy spare to have, did you buy a pair? Are they OEM Porsche (Amazon have them for £28) or another brand?

I got them as a pair from eBay. From what I’ve read on here before, you can’t actually get OEM replacements without buying the whole arm.

Here’s the link of the ones I bought:
