Think to have the bypass done will depend on the condition of the original exhaust, think of lot these back boxes will coming to the end of life.

thats where im at - i went to my local exhaust guys - i know them well. they wont touch it - said its barely not blowing and the seams will go any min. i think im gonna have to have them build me a new back box at some stage in the summer.

Purchased 2 new rear top mounts to hopefully element the remaining noise in my rear suspension since last year's rebuild and also a used 987 shifter to give a shorter gear shift.

where did you get them from mate - i haven't managed to source any yet outside of going to an OPC.

I watched a YouTube video by piston Kirk yesterday who showed a mod to speed up the drop of the window as you open the door so that it clears the roof seal

The top photo shows the before shot and the next one shows a little collar I made to slot under the green sleeve

final one shows a zip tie to hold it all in place

it certainly speeds up the drop maybe not 100% but enough I won’t have to keep shouting at my daughter who always forgets to allow a second for the window to drop.

the hardest part  is getting the green sleeve up.

ive been meaning to do this as mine doesnt drop unless i push it down. really annoying when a passenger doesnt listen and give me time to press the window down button so it clears the seal. the window works fine - its just the initial drop which im sure is me needed to take up the slack in the cable.

Hi. I’ve been looking at doing this myself having seen the part online. Is it an easy install, I.e. do you have to remove the instrument cluster to install? Cheers.

you do have to remove it to pop 4 wires in but it was easy and its a good chance to clean all the grime and dust from under the binical .

hi mate, mine's 2002.  I ran a switched live from the fuse board in the end, not as difficult as it sounds. I put a fuse add-on into A6 which is for the missing heated seats (so technically didn't need the add-on) and ran a wire from there to the centre console and then split it to drop down to underneath each seat.  Then used the ground that was already there.  It doesn't take too long to get the centre console out and was easy to fish the wires under the carpet.  I'll update my running report when I get a chance, but the heated seats now go off when the ignition is switched off.  I'm pretty happy with it, but I don't get much/any clearance behind the new switch and when I sit on the seat it pushes the switch out slightly.  I think it's because they are sports seats, but when I get a chance I will remove the spade connectors and solder the wires to the back of the switch.  I think it can be done without removing the seat.

Ahhh ok cool, I modified the rocker switches and mounted the oem switch on top so mine look oem but are actually just a rocker switch.

Annoyingly my vid I did for a mate to explain didn’t upload with audio but you can see them working.

Just had a go at this, instructions say take the live from the red wire already in the seat connector, but this is permanent live?  Has anyone already done this? Do I need to take switched live from the fuse box and if so, how do I do that?
I don’t want to have to remember to turn the seat off each time I’ve finished driving

ive got to the stage where i need to actually connect the wires - everything else is done - i hadn't even thought about whether the live is perm or not. that adds an extra spanner in the works.

    what year is your car?

Mines a 6 speed and it’s the easiest job I have done.
reversed onto chocks then the switch is at the back of the gearbox by the muffler. A 19mm ring spanner had it off.
I looked at replacement switches but searching and it seems that they get stuck so try cleaning it out first.

mines a 2000 s manual so hopefully the same - ill order up a switch and give it ago.

Noticed last night that my reverse lights and parking sensors weren’t coming on.
checked the fuse but that was ok.
jacked it up this morning and removed the reverse sensor connector shorted that out and everything worked so it was the switch.
removed it and put a meter on it and it was dead.
some brake cleaner down the switch and I could feel more resistance so back on the meter and it’s working ok.
all back on, washed and ready to go!

my reverse lights don't come on when i put the car in reverse. how hard is it to get to the switch and to change it?

My list is something like this...

    4 Koni Special Active Dampers
    4 H&R M030 spec springs
    4 coffin arms (Spyder performance)
    2 front bump stops (Porsche)
4 ARB drop links (TRW & Meyle)
    4 ARB bushes (Porsche)
2 front top mounts (Sachs - OE)
2 front top mount bearings (Hamburg Technic - OE I think?)
2 front tuning forks - (Spyder Performance)
2 inner and outer tie rods, with new bellows (TRW)
    2 front wheel bearings (FAG)
all new hardware at the front (Porsche)
2 rear toe links (Spyder Performance)
    2 rear tuning forks (TRW)
4 eccentric (camber) bolts on rear (Porsche)

Did a little test drive today, just to make sure its about right...seems fine just wandering a bit.  That should be fixed after a decent alignment.

Hey Sanky, any chance you could point me in the direction of the springs you have ordered. the only H&R springs i could find were the 30mm drop and i thought the MO30 suspension was only 10mm drop.

also, which bump stops did you go for? when i spoke to Spyder Performance when i ordered my coffin arms they said they couldnt say if their bumpstops would fit the Koni suspension. my struts are currently on their way to me.

I already have an OMP race seat to go in so no need for replacements, thanks. As with everything, I have no idea what prices things are worth and so would rather things go to genuine owners at a fair price, so my PMs are open for offers on anything! Happy to provide more photos of anything if required.

ive shot you a PM. cheers.

All I have at the moment, but I will get around to getting more photos of everything ASAP!

ok, id be potentially keen as they are nicer than my ones. do you have a price in mind? i have a grey set of normal seats that you could put in or are you looking for proper racing buckets?

As others have said, if there was a run of 100 x 986 cars for homologation purposes with 300BHP and additional features etc then there would be information / documentation around to support this, it appears nobody has ever seen that - not saying it's not out there but its not looking very likely, homologation would presumably be for some motorsport series, for which there would definitely be info (would be happy to be proven wrong though).

However I have spotted something that might shed some light on the car pictured (yours).

While tidying up my home office in lockdown boredom I've been looking in the hardback book that was in Porsche dealers at the time and was supplied with our 2000MY 986S and I spotted this...

    Boxster_book_pg7275-scaled.jpg

Its in the personalisation section, so Porsche Exclusive and Porsche Tequipment - shows some similar wheels, aero kit spoilers and deleted 3rd brake light / rising spoiler in boot replaced with fixed wing with integrated brake light. It is also in an exclusive colour plus has the very desirable bucket seats too, but Porsche always offer a myriad of individual personalisation options.

There is no clue in the book as to the codes that would be on the option sticker of such a car, I believe some my begin with X - but for the factory lowered suspension the code is 030 - Sport chassis -10mm and also possibly X74 Sports suspension.

It's also equally possible that the differences were retro fitted by a subsequent owner, as lots of people personalise their cars over the years.

any more pics of cars with those buckets? - they look great.
