  1. Sealed up the leaking driver's door with a load of sealant and duck tape (duck tape to hold until the sealant sets. Quite a satisfying job (assuming it works...).

Cleaned the window seals and cured the squealing window mechanism by squirting a load of WD40 and silicon lubricant about all the guide wheels and sending it up and down - seemed to be one of the bottom ones making the racket. Hope the fix lasts.

Again amazed how well designed and solid these cars are.

  2. Thankfully found the source of my alarm woes - a wobbly fuse C3. The alarm unit is in great nick, no signs of water or damage and at 22 years old I'm guessing that means it's been replaced at some point, before which someone's had to pull this fuse on a frequent basis.

Found the water ingress point too - drivers door! Wondering if I can be arsed taking the carpets out or just get a dehumidifyer. Well I don't have a dehumidifyer...... 😝

  3. Car broke down when the other half was driving, thankfully round the corner from the house. Looked electrical, suspected the ignition switch but changing it didn't make a difference, all lights on as normal but just no cranking. 😕

Was suspecting the alarm unit as there's a bit of water ingress, but actually turned out Relay C1 (MFI-DI) had gone, taking out the engine management etc - could this be caused be a dodgy ign switch? Didn't see any burn marks when I took the old switch out and disassembled. Checking the MFI-DI relay tomorrow to see if that's the culprit.

Was dead smug about having the new ign switch already (but hadn't actually bothered my ar*e fitting it of course) until I tried to fit it today and realised it's the wrong part! Must be for later cars (mine is a 98 2.5).

  4. Morning all, I've what looks like a cheap aftermarket box arrangement on my early 2.5 986 which drones like hell between 2-3k RPM. Like the sound on full chat, but doing my head in on long runs.

Seems to already have a balance pipe welded in between the 2 silencers (amplifiers), but perhaps this setup might benefit from a @KT986 style mod to equalise the 2 tail pipes?

Starting to blow at the (standard) headers' flange to the cat pipe, and wondering if it's worth spending £££ on cheap headers to improve things?

I have a friendly exhaust shop nearby run by a friend, if I knew what I wanted he could probably make it up.
