Although he’s not active on here anymore I am pretty sure trooper did a 987 roof swap for someone on here.

He trades under the name of torqueboxsters if nothing else he would set you straight on big job or not.

After two hoodies slashed my roof, Paul @TROOPER88 found me a second hand black roof, and fitted it for me. The reason for the second hand option was that my OPC wanted over £2k plus there was a 8-12 month wait.

Done the deal today. Pick her up tomorrow 😊

Hey good luck with your new purchase. I bought my 987 last summer with 60k on the clock and its's been a blast. The only thing I've had to do is an annual service with @TROOPER88- oh and a replacement hood again from @TROOPER88after two hoodies slashed it for fun 😡. Get out there and put some more miles on her - you won't be able to stop smiling I can promise you 😆

  3. Drove my 987 down to Sunbury-on-Thames for a minor service by @TROOPER88 at Torque Porsche.

Dropped the car off and Paul recommended brekky @theflowerpotsunbury which was excellent. I had just polished off my scramble eggs on toast and a pot of tea, when I received a text saying the 987 was ready for collection. Luckily the car only needed two new filters, tyre pressure check and of course 7:75 litres of fresh Mobil 1.
The car feels great and @TROOPER88is super friendly and efficient. Here's to this time next year

  4. I have a happy ending to this sad story!

Having told the story about my hood being slashed @TROOPER88contacted me and offered to source a secondhand hood and fit this within the week.

So I gaffa-taped the torn hood as best I could, I carefully drove on down to Paul's in Lower Sudbury and deposited my sorry looking 987 with him to work his magic.

Paul managed to locate an excellent black hood from a breakers yard. I chose a black one (the original was blue) as this was easier to locate, and cheaper than a blue one.

Paul then removed my old hood and fitted the replacement one making some small repairs along the way, one of which included his partner Annie, who repaired the elastic strips either side to ensure the hood fits snuggly when closing above the door windows.

During all this time Paul kept me updated with regular progress reports which was great and very reassuring. I picked the car up the following week and I have to say I LOVE the black hood as it goes really well with the Artic Silver.

So I owe a huge thank you to Paul and Annie and a big shout out to @TROOPER88 for his speedy and very thorough job!

In my opinion insurance is to be used when there is a need. Can't see why you should pay out even if they charge you another £200 a year. In any case you can always move.

Yes but you then have to declare you've made a claim and you will be assessed as a "Risk" or a "Old Man with Porsche Risk" 😂

Update - I discovered these guys do not supply hoods for 987's

Yes that happened to a friend of mine as well, ended up getting a price hike at renewal even though he hasn’t made a claim. So cheeky.

I'm with Churchil and thanks to @iborguk discovering this - here's what Churchill have say on vandalism (and I quote)

"If you make a claim for damage to your car that is a result of vandalism, which is damage caused by a malicious and deliberate act, you will not lose your No Claim Discount. These days it's almost impossible to protect your car from being vandalised. If you're a victim, our vandalism cover comes as standard and now preserves your no claim discount. And we won't just repair the damage; if you go to one of our recommended garages, we'll clean your car inside and out too. After all, it's not your fault if you're a victim - so why should you suffer twice?"

Maybe this thread ? I have the CabrioShield Premium 987 half-cover which I can recommend as breathable , another forum member talks about a breathable 987 full cover they are pleased with.

Yes I also have a CabrioShield - just didn't put it on last night as I washed the car and wanted the doo to dry out...

Wow. Possibly first time in 12 years I've seen that reported on here. Bad luck.

Carhood Warehouse are/used to be in Chessington, forum sponsor and they get good reviews. Most of the time it's 986 that get new hoods, so not sure what the price is for a 987.  Or you can try a breaker like 9Apart or Steve Strange, if you can handle to fit it yourself.

    Good luck.

Thank you and yes I will give them a call

  10. Woke up this morning to find my 987's hood had been slashed.

Neighbours reported two hoodies lingering nearby very early this morning.

Summer is nearly here so I am going to have to get it replaced and fast!

I've seen BAS gets good feedback. My only challenge is they are in South Wales and I'm in London!

Can anyone suggest anyone closer to home - that do a proper job?

Wondering if I should I give Hatfield OPC a call, but I suspect an arm and a leg might be involved...

    any tips?

    thanks

There's plenty of rave reviews on the forum about these guys - I've got a set on order so happy to let you know how I get on once they've been fitted

I joined the forum a couple of years ago because every year I decide I’m going to sell my 944 S2 and buy a Boxster, last year COVID got in the way so I’m determined this is the year!

I haven’t even driven one yet as I’m in Scotland and most of the ones I like are hundreds of miles away but this week three have appeared for sale nearby.

There’s a 2006 3.2 but the service history is a bit sketchy and the owner didn’t really answer my questions in a way that inspired confidence so it put me off.

Now there’s a dealer selling a 2005 2.7 so I’m hopefully going to see that and also find out if it’s got the bigger IMS but there’s also a 2.7 Sport Edition being sold privately.  I really like the look of this one but I can’t get the high road tax out of my mind plus it’s £2k more than the dealers car.

The only essentials I have in mind are manual gearbox and heated seats and think I’ve ruled out a 3.4.

Any advice appreciated, also interested if anyone else has moved from a 944, I’ve had it for 8 years and love driving it but just fancy something more modern.

I'm over the moon with my move from a '82 911SC to a 2005 Boxster 2.7. Its so much more fun to drive and has many of the advantages of a modern Porsche

A lot has been said about main and dip lights but you also mentioned DRL. The 987 side and fog lights are abysmal and unless you like running around on dipped headlights all day I found that these DAYTIME RUNNING LAMPS (DRL) LED FOR PORSCHE BOXSTER 987 2005-08 are excellent bits of kit keep you visible during dull weather. They are a straight swop for the OEM lights and give the front of the car a good visual appearance lift.
