Long term solution - don't get out.😀
Interesting concept, alas the garage is flipping cold and I prefer a warm bed 😀

I hope I’m supple enough when I’m 76 to get in and out of my 986 🙏

I’ve used this on the 986 seals so I’ll try this on the rear wiper on the Land Cruiser, it squeaks like a strangled mouse.

Glasses at 30 old man! 45 before I needed mine, have a tanner back.
PS - Show your elders some respect, 30 + 20 = 50, I'm 1969 vintage... work it out.

Is it just me, but over the last few years driving at night I seem to very often be dazzled by oncoming headlights? I get it that modern headlights are brighter but surely if they dazzle you it’s darn right dangerous, or are a lot of people driving with badly adjusted headlights?

I second Tanya for batteries, I ordered one for my Land Rover, arrived very fast and was well packaged. I can also recommend Ctek battery chargers/ maintainers, I have 3 of them in constant use, never had a problem with them.

I like to keep my classic cars as original as possible my choice. My Morgans, when I owned them were completely stock from the factory and that did help when it came to sell them. My 911 Carrera was also completely stock in as much as any replacement parts were to the same spec as the originals. When I came to sell it on an auction site the most questions I got was about the cars originality, mainly did it have the original engine and gearbox, was it still in first paint and how original was the interior. The guy who bought it was a dealer and he bought it for his own collection and the only reason he bought it was because it was so unmolested.
However I’m a great believer in if it’s your car, your money and you do what you want with it. Some of the backdated cars look great. There is room for all.

Did it sell?
To be honest I have no idea, I really didn’t have any interest in it other than the price. I think the dealer tends to go for very low mileage vehicles, mainly classics. Eventually they seem to sell.

Recently seen a 2.5, in Guards Red, low mileage, think it was on Fb being sold by a dealer, from memory around £16K.

I’ve always thought the 2.5 in launch colours is the one to have but I might be a little bias 🤔
Ditto The Baron. I didn’t buy mine because it might one day be an investment, I bought it because I liked the colour combination of Arctic Silver and Red which just happened to be the launch colours. I have always liked classic (and modern) cars with red interiors.

Above is one of the reasons I bought my 99 986 in launch colours. To me it still looks fresh despite it being 22 years old. The body stying is IMO sublime. As usual with most classic cars the unmolested versions which are well looked after tend to retain their money and are the ones which are usually sought after.

Mines done 210k and just change the clutch for the first time a few hundred miles ago, testament as to how well built these cars are
Also how good a driver you are.

Thanks guys for the helpful comments. I’ll leave alone for now.

Do you get any kind of warning that the bearing is on its way out (rattling noise etc) or does it just go Bang and engine wrecked? I’m a newbie owner of a 1999 986 with 98K miles, a one owner car which has impeccable service history. The clutch feels fine and no slippage so at the moment I’m not inclined to change it.

Went out for lunch on a gloriously sunny day This was the first decent drive since I acquired my 986. Went down the A65 to Skipton, then the A59 to the M6 and back home. This thing goes round corners like it’s on rails. Much better ride than my old 911.

I think they are ageing really well and the Arctic Silver with red interior looks stunning IMO. My previous Porsche was a 911 3.2 Carrera which was in mint condition and always turned heads. However now I have the Boxster it’s a much nicer place to be and although the 911 had the classic looks especially with the Whale Tail, the 986 Boxster is beautifully styled and will I’m sure look even better in 10 years time.

Apologies for the Newbie question, but isn’t the IMS bearing sealed, so does it actually get any oil lubrication from the engine?

Yes, I believe so. I’m not a fan of the gold bits, but a 986 in launch colours does it for me 👍
