  1. Got a reply on the coating, this seems like a good deal and the guy seems very knowledgeable, might give this a shot 👍

The coating we use is called "SuperNano Acrylic Coating" which is what all of the SGR UK and SuperGlass International franchise networks use. It is manufactured in the States by SuperGlass and it cannot be purchased on the open market. It is a silicon-ceramic treatment designed to provide maximum protection to the headlights of vehicles against staining, microbial growth, fading due to UV exposure, acid rain and other airborne pollutants associated with the environment. It restores the surfaces to near original colour and gloss. Its extreme hydrophobic nature exhibits an increased coefficient of friction on the substrate it is applied to, making the coated surface not slippery when wet. We provide a 2yr guarantee against UV degradation.

Is the crazing in the plastic lens itself or just on the surface of the lens?

I've seen pics of headlights where the crazing is the lens, i wouldn't think any amount of polishing would get that out or prevent it from getting worse?

Could you not polish off the coating yourself and then use a UV coating after? Headlight restoration kits usually come with a protector - perhaps not as permanent as PPF?

I used G3 Pro Scratch Remover with by orbital polisher on my headlights as they were starting to cloud around the edges - removed all of the cloudiness and then applied some UV coating from a T-cut restoration kit. After 5 months there's no sign of any cloudiness returning.

I absolutely could do it myself and I have on previous cars.. but after a lifetime of servicing my own vehicles and doing stuff like this Ive come to the conclusion lately that I dont enjoy it as much as I used too and I really cant be arsed anymore, I think if I had a nice warm double garage to work in Id happily go for it, but it's tiring going in and out of my workshop getting this and that, sitting on the drive or bent over an engine bay and my old aching bones don't appreciate it any more, I've saved enough money over the years to let someone else take care of it these days 😊

  3. My headlights are starting to show some signs of the coating delaminating on the outer edges, and the drivers side unit has gotten just a couple of very small beginnings of crazing, Ive been thinking about solutions. the replacement service (expensive but very nice) going the polish and ppf route, but there is a local company that do a refurb at a very reasonable price, I asked about 2k clearcoat but its not something they offer but they do protect with a UV coating guaranteed for 2 years.. heres what they have said in an email

"For a full refurbishment there is a 6-7 stage process depending on the severity and on average it takes me 2.5hrs including preparation and clean up. Final stages consist of an application of acrylic polish and our own tough, protective coating which comes with a 2yr guarantee against UV degradation.

The standard charge for the pair is £120 (incl.VAT). If the units are severely scratched then there would be an additional charge of £10 as I would need to carry out an additional stage, but generally speaking this is rarely required"

Lots of good reviews and pictures of their work, my thought is will this coating be satisfactory and will it stop any further chances of crazing? Its UV damage that causes the crazing right?  Seems a reasonable price, Im loathe to spend much more as Im only planning to keep the car 2, maybe 3 more years before upgrading to a GTS hopefully and Im trying to reign in my modding desires, there's so much Id like to do to the car, upgrade steering wheel, new wheels, lower it, put spacers on, but for the first time ever Im keeing my eyes on the next car and trying to enjoy this for what it is.

Anyway I've gone on a bit there.. back on topic.. The coating offered would be ok rather than a proper 2k clearcoat? Ill try and get a bit more detail on what exactly it is.. Im assuming some kind of ceramic

Steering wheel retrimmed by Royal steering wheels in dark grey alcantara with blue stitching and centre stripe to match yachting blue interior. Fantastic quality workmanship as always from Royals. Pic is a bit dark!

    Cabrioshield Premium half cover.

    Not cheap but very good.

Keeps fox claws and bird cr*p off the roof.

Won’t help re drains , but I’d say that should be a regular check anyway.

Do you use it regularly buddy?would you say it was a worthwhile investment? I always thought alot of the cr*p would have got into the drains whilst it was raining with the water carrying it down.. Not a big deal really as I will keep an eye on them

  6. I've been considering one for a while but unsure if I'd actually use it, I, like the idea it can protect from cr*p coming through the drain holes (although I have cleared them)

I proofed the roof last season but wasn't happy with the soaking I got getting in if there had been rain in the last 24 hours, our drive is north facing and beaded water could sit there for days sometimes and give you an unpleasant drenching getting in.

I guess I'm asking are they worthwhile does the canvas actually need protecting so much? Do you guys who have bought one actually use it regularly? Or does it just sit in the boot or garage.

    Cheers

  7. Looks a decent car that, price is a little rich for a private sale imho, I like the interior, black is fine on red but I do sometimes think its a little dull, I'd like that in my car, some of the coloured interiors can look a bit lairy but I think that one is rather tasteful .. Bear in mind that car may be due the 12 year service soon which includes pdk and a belt change so you could be looking at a rather large service bill not long after buying.. Something to bear in mind, other than that it looks a well specced motor👍

  8. PSE, not a base stereo and heated seats were my only real requirements when looking and I got all of them. I also got a leather interior that I hadn't particularly planned on but I think its definitely something that would make it onto the must have next time, only other thing is the paddle steering wheel I feel perhaps should have been on my list, the buttons are ok but dont really enhance the pdk experience so Id probably have that on my must haves next time around

I had the multifunction wheel which I hated as it’s just too big in diameter at 380mm, swapped out for a new 718 GT wheel with the GPS adapter. Cost about £1700 all in, got a friend who wants it for £1500 if I ever remove from car.

it’s transformed the look of the interior making it look much more modern and feels great to use being that bit smaller at 360mm. Recommended upgrade.

Still getting the battery low, start engine message when getting in the car. Think it’s worth just getting it replaced before I get to the situation where I can’t get into the frunk? I’m off on holiday at the end of the month for a couple of weeks and am nervous about leaving it sitting for that amount of time.

If you've got no smart charger linked up I'd say yes.. Mine is still on the original 2013 battery but it's fine just now as I keep it hooked up regular, I'll certainly be replacing in the new year, 10 years is a good stretch for it

The adaptor is ridiculously priced but again it will hold value, you have so many in the 911 community (997 and 991.1) also looking to do this a future sale should be very easy.

Surely £1500 in the bank for your next car is still there you just have it in the goods rather than the bank. Enjoy the experience of your car here and now.

Dont get me wrong  Daz, it's a mod I would love to do, I think part of the problem is I've never removed a mod from a car in my life, I'm very much a guy that will sell private rather than trade in and the time will come to sell and I know what I'm like, I won't have the heart to remove it and will be thinking it will make it an easier sell privately as better equipped cars sell easier. I actually agree with what you're saying I should do it really and the money would be safe IF I had the resolve to remove it come sale time, If the car was a keeper I wouldn't hesitate.

  12. Thanks for the feedback everybody..good food for thought I do get that it will hold its value if I kept the old wheel and swapped back when selling on, can't help but think it's 1500 better in the bank going towards the next car though.. Think I will do the Royals refurb, save some money and just enjoy a better looking modded wheel.. Something along these lines, as much as I'd prefer the flappy paddles I'm comfortable enough with the buttons despite them being a bit clunkyPanamera-997-with-PDK-buttons-Thicker-Th

  13. I've always had a Royals refurb on my weekend toys, it's a great way to lift the interior and for me I've always found it worth spending on.. That said I have the standard multifunction wheel with the odd button system, I'd love to do the sports wheel upgrade but I'm struggling to justify a 1500 spend on it, my plan is to keep this car for 3 years and move onto either a supremely well specced S or a GTS and I can't help but feel it wouldn't be money well spent.. Is the sports wheel with paddles a really worthwhile upgrade or would I be better off just having the Royals refurb on my standard wheel? I'm kinda used to the button system now but mostly I just drive full auto anyway, would I be more likely to use the paddles just because they're a bit more intuitive? I'm not sure the best way to go.. Is there any market for the old steering wheel if I do upgrade to recoup a bit of cost?

Would love to hear opinions from those who have done it or equally indeed happy to be told its not a great way to spend on modding a base car

    Cheers

  14. Thanks for the replies, Panic over, Id found a 10 amp feed and piggybacked off it without actually checking what it was other than a switched live, Id disconnected it at some point during the install, turns out its for the electric steering column lock so critical to actually getting the car started.. Im off to a quiet corner with my dunce cap on 😳

  15. Not sure what's happened here, I'm in the process of fitting a underseat sub, I've disconnected the battery as I'm getting a live feed, it's been disconnected about an hour but when I've reconnected it the car won't start, there's power to lights etc, clocks are lit up and key turns but there's nothing there, it's like it's immobilised.

Any clues from the collective.. Never come across anything like this before on any other car?

  16. Thats a great spec S, just what I'll be after a few years from now, shouldn't have any trouble shifting that, hard to price but I'm looking at the market a lot and I'd expect that at the pointy end 36-38k privately maybe?

Autotrader valuation tool would help.. Take their price and add a bit on for the high spec

  17. Bit of an update, decided to get my detailing gear out to the bumper, I think I (now very obviously mistakenly) thought fresh paint and laquer wouldn't benefit from a machine polish but it was so flat looking compared to the rest of the car I decided to give it a shot.. 2 stage polish with Meguires Ultimate then Auto finesse tripple, a couple of coats of Collinite wax and then a coat of Turtlewax Hybrid sealant and the bloody thing  is transformed, all the warmth and depth of the rest of the paintwork and now looking like a much better match.. What a relief, can get back to enjoying the car now 😊

This, you clearly know yourself. Plus the whole pyschology of the thing will make it look worse than it is  to your eyes, mix in a bit of male ego and there you have it . . . Your a bit miffed. Have trust that they did what's best, and you picked a decent body shop, life is short. Good luck.

Thanks buddy, that's the kind of sense I need talking to me, this all rings very true.. Cheers 👍

I’ve seen a lot lot worse but it’s hard to see from the pics..

I had a silver rear quarter sprayed at an OPC Bodyshop and it was never quite right as the flip in the metallic just caught the light differently. Im also a  fussy bugger and can spot imperfections at 100 paces.. I took it back and they blended into the door but it still bugged me..

At the end of the day it’s always worth asking them to take another look but the danger with reds is you keeping chasing round the car panel edge to panel edge.

What is it you don’t feel is right ?

Colour match into the rear wings ?

Its just a fraction light i think, its hard to describe but the only way I can describe it is it doesn't have the warmth, and depth of the original paint, a little flat perhaps? as Im typing this Im thinking as the rest of the car has been recently polished and waxed whether thats part of it? maybe a polish and wax might help glow it up a bit, looking at the rest of the car the paintwork is glowing  but the bumper isnt... you're right about chasing it though, probably not a road I want to go down, probably just need to chill and enjoy the car as it is and stop being so obsessive

Being brutal you're not going to get the original paint back.

If you're not happy with the finish I'd have a chat with them and see what realistically can be done re the colour match.

Only you can gauge what is acceptable re your car.

Yep, Ive come to terms with that part, whats done is done and its a good finish, Im just not sure it'll get much better in terms of matching anyway, Im well aware that when you fully respray a big piece of bodywork like that it will never be a perfect match and I think and whats really bugging me is the lack of communication and them supposedly doing me a favour and giving me more than what I paid for to “get it perfect". If  Id gone in with a badly damaged bumper and expecting a full repair and respray I think Id have been perfectly happy with the job but I got more than I bargained for and its given me mixed feelings.. I guess in a month or two I probably wont give it a second thought
