  1. I had the Engine Management Light come on mine and a fault code suggesting variocam solenoid issue.

The issue turned out to be that the wire to the solenoid had been chewed through by a mouse whilst car was stored in the garage over winter. Fortunately it was broken very close to the solenoid connector so was easily repaired and there was no other damage  - cost around £125 at Dove Motors in Rushden. They also said that they often see rodent damage to wiring - apparently the flat 6 engine design can provide a happy nesting area for rodents when it gets cold.

Will this work.  If the increase kicks in on the 1st April then does this mean that day on the calendar or any tax which has a period that begins on or after the 1st April?

If you tax it before it goes up you pay the old rate - if you tax it after its gone up you pay the new rate.

  3. My 987.2 was in for 12 year big service at Dove Motors today. Great service from them BTW but they flagged up front pads 80% worn. Still plenty left on them I'm sure but was planning to change them myself before planned French road trip next year. Did them on an old 986 years ago and seem to remember it was a doddle of a job.

Any recommendations for front pad supplier? Don't do any track stuff these days so just bog standard road quality will be fine.

    Thanks for any suggestions.

  4. Your price estimate seems about spot on to me. You need 40 posts to advertise on here but that's not that difficult to achieve - there is no requirement for quality of post, only quantity 😁.

  5. This may have been covered before but I renewed my extended warranty today and was pleased to find the requirement for the 111 point check has been removed so long as its extended whilst car is still under warranty cover. (I knew it had been suspended during the pandemic but thought this was temporary)

£1190 for 2 years - without Porsche Assist which I didn't think was too bad. They just requested copies of V5, Service booklet stamps and photo of odometer - easy peasy. I think its going up from 1st September to £1250 if anyone's considering it.

Also wondering why Porsche should find it necessary to have this on the 111 point list, as I said above a tyre failure shouldn’t effect their risk exposure.

Same logic applies to the requirement to fit a Porsche battery which again is an item excluded from warranty cover.

  7. My experience has been that not all OPC’s interpret this rule so rigidly. I renewed my warranty for 2 years when my tyres were already over 6 years old. Whilst one dealer said the 5 year rule was strict, another said they would consider the all round condition  if the tyres before deciding. As there were no other issues with the tyres I went ahead and all was well.
