New Warranty Available

Recommended Posts

A good friend of mine is a Sales Manager for a relatively new warranty company called Autoprotect.

He has just rung me to say that they will now cover Boxsters with a claims limit up to the full value of the car (useful for engine failures!)

Thers is no stipulation on the car's age but there may be a mileage limit and it must have a full service history (doesn't have to be OPC).

He prefers that I don't publish costs on here but expect it to be about half the OPC extended warranty.

You can contact him for further information via his mobile on 07801 203 433. His name is Alun Thomas, just tell him Jim has recommended you.

Oh, just to add I believe it does cover RMS & I'm not on commission & don't have any connection with the company :)

The price is now confirmed at £475 per year, claim to the value of the vehicle & includes RMS. Should be just as good as the OPC policy I'm told.

If this is as good as it sounds you may have just saved me £500!!

I'm not sure about a website, but if you ring my mate's mobile no. (first post) he'll send you out a policy booklet for you to look over. In the booklet it actually says Porsche's aren't covered but I have twisted his arm to ensure that they are ('cos mine is going on this). The fact that they accept the deal overrides what the booklet says. It's a kosher company who mainly specialise in truck warranties & it is properly registered under the new FSA rules etc.

Just checked the FSA website. Please can you clarify if they are part of Reg Vardy Financial Services as this is the only registered name under FSA for autoprotect?

Also, if it is in the policy booklet a Porsche is not covered, then it is NOT! You will need to get confirmation in writing from the company insurer ( not the broker-autoprotect). This would be standard under the FSA guidlines. He should also be able to tell you the insurer too as you need to make sure they are financially sound and can pay claims out.(again standard under FSA)

Let me know this, and I wil check further. Seems a good deal to be honest. Thats why it needs checking out properly before all BoXa.net members migrate to this policy and hit problems when they make a claim for all those RMS Oil Leaks.

Sorry to sound skeptical! It is from 15 years in the business that has done it!

The booklet says they are a wholly owned subsidiary of MB&G Insurance 21/26 Howard House, Howard Street, North Shields, Tyne & Wear NE30 1AR. To clarify all the other points I suggest you speak to Alun Thomas directly.

I was quoted £750 (approx) for a years warranty from Porsche on my 2000 S by an OPC. This includes Porsche Assist and, taking into account that this is probably worth around £130 (it covers you internationally), why would anyone take the risk and buy anything else?

Is that including the used car check you will need to have before they'll warranty it? I was quoted nearly £250 for that making a year's warranty close to £1K, not including any work which they say you need. For £500 I can live without Porsche Assist.

I just bought the Porsche warranty at the weekend. Car is just over 4 months out of the 2 year manufacturers warranty, was serviced at 2 years old, and I didn't have to have the car inspected. In fact, a car inspection was never even mentioned. Considering that the cost (£725) includes the Porsche Assistance which is £135 I think the warranty at £590 is good value. I'm covered to the value of the car, notable exclusions are PCM which I don't have, audio equipment, and wheel bearings?

The OPC was Reading.

....it's good to have someone who knows what the potential pitfalls are to check it out for the BoXa.net members.

I'm interested enough to have made a call to Bristol OPC. They are offering a pre-contract check for outstanding faults at no charge. I'm skeptical about ANY contract, so before entering into one, I would expect both parties to know the score to avoid arguments later.

So far, I've never benefited from any warranty I ever paid for and on a couple of occasions have argued my point with senior dealership management. Once, I managed to get a BMW replaced after 6 months. The Boxster however, falls into another category and it seems that the exended warranty is the way to go.

Quite right Jules, but after an hour of fruitless attempts to speak to someone, I gave up.

However, I have just managed to get through and they confirm a 101 point check fee of £177.84. However, had they known, they would have incorporated this check in a service.

Looks like it might be worth seeing if they'll incorporate the check with the next service, which is due in a month or so. I'll see how I get on, otherwise it looks like the excellent (in my experience) reputation of Newcastle OPC could be going wobbly.

Hi guys I found the discussion on Autoprotect very interesting as I have had that policy for the last year as part of my purchase.First of all it is not called autoprotect it is called Premier plus by MB&G

this is the link for the warranty

http://www.mbandg-autovision.co.uk/products.htm

this is what is detailed in the cover note

ALL COMPONENTS COVER

Parts Covered - ALL MECHANICAL AND ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS OF THE VEHICLE THAT WERE MANUFACTURER'S ORIGINAL FITMENTS EXCEPT THOSE LISTED BELOW.

Components NOT insured by the Policy.

Those regarded as service items or components which are expected to require periodic replacement.

Wheels and tyres, spark plugs, wiper blades and arms, auxiliary drive belts, pipes and hoses, exhaust system including catalytic convertors, brake shoes, pads and discs, batteries, lamps and bulbs, fuses, wiring connections and looms, audio equipment, radio aerial masts and motors, bodywork, paintwork, all weatherstrip and seals, water ingress, door locks, handles and hinges, check straps, all glass including heater elements, trim, upholstery including seat runners and seat adjustment mechanisms, cosmetic finishers, general oil leaks or the adjustment of any component.

Timing belts are covered providing that the last due change of belt has taken place as specified by the manufacturer's schedules (proof required). Damage subsequently caused if timing belt has not been changed as specified by manufacturer is specifically excluded.

PLEASE NOTE: Those components covered are covered against mechanical or electrical failure due to sudden and unexpected circumstances. The replacement of oil filters, lubricants, antifreeze and fluids is included provided the replacement is necessitated by the failure of an insured component and the vehicle is not within 1,000 miles of its next service. External oil leaks are specifically excluded.

The two lines that I have highlighted in red make me think whether thay will cover the RMS or not as I am no expert on cars .

Incidentally I havent had to use them as yet but its almost time for me to choose who to go with regards a new warranty thats how I started looking

All comments would be helpful
