Delbox
I informed Elephant, my insurer, about the options fitted to my new car; as these consitute modifications in its eyes, I have had my premium loaded - and been informed that, in the event of a claim, the car would only be returned to standard (non-option) specification! With the plea to avoid any argument about whether or not options are modifications etc, does anyone have insurance (with a mainstream company) that will cover factory fitted options AND return the car to that standard in the event of a claim. If not a mainstream company then who provides such insurance?Del

You have to fill in boxes online and if a question is not asked, they exclude it by a warranty or policy condition. What I suggest you do is speak to a real person like an insurance broker who specialises in this area. Not some direct insurer who operate telesales people and dont know the first thing about policy cover/conditions.I would personally speak to specialist high performance insurance brokers like these:Peart Associates (Porsche Scheme with R&SA) Peart Adrian Flux Group (Kings Lynn) Adrian FluxMax Insurance (Cambridge) Max Insurance (if you are paying over £800)All these insurers will cover modifications/alterations etc and have schemes for high performance vehicles. I am personally with Peart for MY00 Boxster S, but you do need a tracker fitted if the vehicle value is over £25k I would guess yours is. Please call and speak to them. Dont try and sort out online.Hope this helps. PM me if you need any further help.Dickie
boxsters33
Not sure what that non-option cover means I've been with elephant for 3 yrs years and when i notified them of my change of vehicle the first thing they asked me was.."are you aware that you will just get the market value for the car?" no mention about fitted options. I just said provided i get full market value thats fine..i think everyone knows you lose value as soon as you drive off the forecourt but perhaps with the 987 a majority of its value is currently retained (due to waiting list etc.) God forbid but if i should make such a claim i would want the value of the car as if it were sold just prior to the claim..i'd accept i would not get list price with options but if they tried to screw me. my close lawyer friend would help me in the battle!Ps: Anyone here went to the National Space Centre in Leicester today? seal grey 987 with Boxster S wheels and chrono No. plate. FR05 BOV or was driving along M6 between J4 and J3 about 12.30?.....since collecting my own car, these are the first ones i've seen on the road...oh i did also see another seal grey parked on Foden Rd, Great Barr yesterday...sorry i digressed from your topic Delbox
renquist
I got that response from Elephant so I gave First Alternative a go and they asked if the car was to have any options fitted, I thought about lying but honesty won and I told them and they said"OK" Great stuff, best quote too. With a brand new car, you get a new for old policy from most insurers, so they replace your car with an exact replacement. With Elephant\Admiral, you get a base car, so you need to pay the difference to have alll your optional extras. In summary, there not worth it for a brand new car. Delbox
Thanks for all your comments and advice.BoxsterS33, I accept the depreciation - hence I've got RTI cover in the event of a total loss; however, I can't accept that the £14,000 of options aren't covered! Are they going to fit a standard headlight unit and non-active suspension strut if I'm unlucky enough to have an accident involving a front corner? How about the leather? Replace a full leather seat with an alcantara and leather mix? Remember too that Porsche fit a bespoke wiring loom to each car; so it's unlikely to function properly with open circuits where optional components are missing! Moreover, it is their responsibility to repair the car and make it roadworthy; how are they going to do that with 3 active and one standard suspension strut? assuming that the latter will fit! What a farce!!!Del
