Who are you insured with ?

Recommended Posts

I am currently insured with Admiral, (cheapest quote), however having read through the posts here regarding Admiral & Elephant's non replacement of factory fitted extras....I am persuing other insurance companies for a definitive answer, as I dont fancy footing a presumed £5K bill in the event of a total loss in year one.... < now bending on knees and praying that im not tempting fate here :ermmm: >

I contacted eSure, and they provided a competitve quote to Admirals, however after clarification, they also don't pay out for the replacement of extras above the manufacturers std specification in the event of a claim.

So who is everyone insured with (new cars mainly), and are you satisfied you are totally covered in this situation?

Cheers

Well after lots of phoning around and enquiring about factory extras and the debate about them not being mods etc, i ended up with Porsche Insurance ,they matched a quote i got from NU of all places, but Porsche cover all the extras, etc.

Direct Line and Tescos were not far behind, I'm paying £958 fully comp with 4 years NCD and 8 points

Just had an update from eSure as I know one of the sales girls there, and after speaking to the underwriters directly, they DO actually cover the FF optional extras for the first year only, so taking their policy now. :D:D

For info: Quote came in £811 for me and g/f inc PFNCD, no license points :inocent: , previous claims or tracking device required....not bad i thought, and Admiral will refund me the remaining money on a pro-rata basis, as there "our cover is misleading" and they could not provide the cover requested.

So everyone's a winner!! :bana::bana:

You can always take out GAP insurance for the difference between a total loss and replacement price. Its not always too expensive and there are one or two specialist brokers who can put the deal together for individuals. You can get a deal which covers three years of ownership for a couple of hundred pounds (one off payment) which will give you the difference between the insurance payout and what you paid for the car.

I had a similar experience this morning when I phoned esure. They took details of my full specification and said that they would be listed on my policy document. There is no extra charge for factory fitted options (and I gave him a long list that included 18" Carreras). I have paid my first instalment and will wait and see until the documentation arrives. By the way, they were by far the most competitive quote I found but I am one of those buyers supposedly facing a mid-life crisis............... ;)

Just got my insurance....

AXA £550 - SP30 in 1999, 5% online discount and £15 cash back for it being a second ploicy taken out with them, mirrored NCB (other main car with them, so use FNCB on both cars) don't use protected NCB as it is a waste of time as is legal protection. Car has Tracker fitted which they give 7.5% but.. that equates to £32 per year so.. you would need to keep the car a while to get the value.

PeterT - why are protected NCB and legal insurance a waste of time?

I am with elephant at £1050, very pleased as everyone else £1600ish

32 years old, 8 years NCB, 6 points, parked on street in SW London, 4000 miles social only

elephant don;t insure the extars so I dropped my valuation of the car fro 40k to 35k whcih saved about £50 on the quote - not happy about not being insured but when I look at the premium saving and law of probablilities it works for me.

another tip is to add a named driver who is old and excellent record (even if they will never drive the thing) - adding my Dad saved a further £70

Ptotected NCB only means you get full 65% discount with the insurer you are currently with. You will also find that you are tied to them for eitehr 2 or 3 years after the accident/claim. If you go elsewhere in that period then you drop back to 40%.

Right suppose you have an accident and pay £750 a year.. next year.. you still have Full NCB but the insurer now wants £1500 for your policy! the NCB Protection does not mean they cannot increase your premium coz you are now a higher risk!

By shopping arround you would probably find that your 40% NCB worked out the same + you are not tied teh next year and have 50%... believe me!!!!!!!

I was prepared to accept £800 for my Boxster but due to a broker cockup looked to many other places and ended up paying £550.

Legal cover for what.. unless you are involved in some major crime investigation most insurance claims can be delt with by a person with 3 brain cells which is more than most insurance loss adjusters. If it is serious then you would need specialist help.. not that provided by the junior new starter at the law firm the inurance Broker has ths best deal with!

Or am I just tooo cynical!
