Where can I get insurance? (without a tracker)

Recommended Posts

I have tried Tesco, Sainsburys and several other companies but to no avail, every single one requires a tracking system.

I dont understand it because I have purchased the Boxster and it has never had a tracking system so how was it insured before?

Surely there must be a company that insures Porsches with out tracker.

To be honest I wouldn't want the car back if it was stolen, I would much prefer to replace it. Therefore I do not wish for a tracker system.

Thanks people..

I am with Swift at the moment at £377 PA but I have read the small print and I am not happy with it hence looking to cancel and restart else where.

Admiral have come up with £598 but it doe's seem like a great policy.

yeah RAC were clearly the best for me too. They took another 10% off for naming my Girlfriend as a 2nd fully comp driver (obviously haven't told her that) includes breakdown and were good over the phone. Try them for a quote.

Generally most insurance companies have specific target markets that they aim for. Companies like Direct Line, eSure, Admiral, Axa etc are after mid range saloon cars and middle aged drivers. They are not interested in sports cars. They want low risk, low cost deal and they want to do them thick and fast. Most of supermarket type insures like Tesco and Sainsbury's are basically 'white labelling' main stream insures. "Sheila's Wheels" is Norwich Union, Elephant, More Than are all using main stream underwriters. Even the Post Office is actually using main stream underwriters.

Wouldn't it be helpful if they just told you what customer profile they were looking for??

What you should do is to get in touch with a specialist insurer who negotiates with the big insurance companies to cover sports cars in particular. Companies like Adrian Flux, First Point, AutoTorque, Competition Car Insurance (formally Eggar Lawson), Footman James etc. These tend to offer specific cover for your model of car and they are often are enthusiasts themselves so they are knowledgeable about your car and the issues you face. Often they can add in extras like track day insurance. I find these companies are usually much better to talk to than the average call centre!

A good place to look is in the specialist car mags. If you get 911 & Porsche magazine there is always a load of ads in the back for specialist insurers.

I have had a good experience with First Point. Give them a try! Best of luck! :D

This may upset some people, and I had trouble in believing it but my renewal from Admiral was 360.00 quid fully comp for 3.2S Tip. Had a good look round and managed to get the premium down to 253.00!!! My no-claim bonus is guaranteed, the total excess is 450.00. The bad news (which may effect a quotation for others) is as follows:

1)- I am not as young as I once was. 2)-The car is kept in locked garage. 3)- The milage is limited to 6000 per year. wife and myself only drivers. 4)- I have over 10 years no-claim bonus. 6)- No accidents. 7)- No convictions. 8)- There is no courtesy car if repairs are required, but if I can add this if I pay another 20 quid. This cover is from Liverpool Victoria, give them a try they may be of no use to others but it may be worth a shot.
