JimC2407
Evening all, Following a thoroughly pleasant evening run, I was approaching a roundabout near home when the brake pedal started to go long. I carefully nursed the car back to discover a dripping leak from the metal brake pipes onto the under tray on the passenger side roughly in line with the rear of the door. It appears they've corroded behind the plastic to the point where the pedal pressure has caused the pipe to rupture. Whilst not exactly unexpected on a 14 year old car, it's a major p.i.t.a and I'm torn between trying to get it to the nearest specialist or trusting a decent local garage. Does anyone have any idea on likely costs to replace the entire solid brake pipe assembly and any other horrors that might lie in store once the tear down begins? Cheers Jim

Cheers Jim Hi Jim, I had my car fail it's MOT a few weeks back on the same thing. They replaced the main ones back to front and half way up in to the wheel arch liners which cost £305 + vat approx. 4 hours labour apparently plus fluid & fittings. I'd imagine it could potentially be a bit of a pig of a job due to seized brake unions etc.
JimC2407
Thanks for the info. It's going into the indie tomorrow and they have quoted a similar figure. Hopefully there won't be any issues with stubbornly seized unions as the whole thing has been enough of a drama already, especially the bit when the pedal hit the floor under heavy braking!
