Key Fob and Alarm signal re-syncing issue

Hey all, hoping for some further advise on a 2002 3 button system. Usually when i haven't driven for the 5 days the old turn key to unlock doors, press remote to re-sync works well.

However this week i was out driving and about, got to the car the next morning and went to open and no flashing on the remote.

Thought i may have had the key badly in my coin pocket in my jeans at the cinema and maybe the button was pushed and flattened the battery but no , took the battery out and tested with Volt meter and 2.95 so that was good , but a new battery in anyway and still won't re-sync.

i have tried versions of re-syncing from every year model and not getting it to talk again, will this be a completely lost code and need a visit to porsche to resync or could it be the transmitter in the car gone ? any way to test that unit ?

I have tried, key in turn right, open door, key in IGN to stop the alarm, key out and press and that used to work.

Tried pressing the button and turning the key in the door as per another year model

Key in IGN to position2 and hold button for 10 seconds

Key in IGN key out and operate within 6 seconds !

That's about all the Porsche alarm versions i can find and none have worked..

All buttons flashing on the remote ok, door flashes continuously when pressed, boot and hood both flash for about 2-3 seconds then gap then 2-3 seconds again.

Thanks for any other options and advise..

T

Hi Chipps, yeah i have tried left, right, press and hold then left and or right ! but ill try it again, so left you are saying to lock, yeah that has stopped the alarm triggering but the fob still won't re-sync to the system to allow the fob to open doors, bonnet or boot.

just every other time i have left her a week or so and gone back i usually forget about this option and open the door then the  alarms goes off blah blah , key in the IGN on off and press the remote and its all back working again.

Transponders clearly are OK as they sense and shut the alarm off its just the fob and receiver not chatting. just hope its not a rare case of the receiver in the car gone south !!

Arghhhh ! Electrics

A common problem on these is the solder joints deteriorating. If you are good at soldering electronic components, desolder and remove the plastic battery carrier and resolder/reflow all surface mount components on the circuit board. Re solder the carrier and it should work again. It may need a re sync as you have already mentioned. HTH Andy

Thanks Andy, I have purchased new switches and soldered to one fob that was the spare and all blinks bit that one has never opened the doors etc.

I'm guessing from remote flashing etc Thaya it's going to be a reprogram the fob and remote opening. Anyone done this with dealers and know the best value out there?

You've said the fob light flashes when pressed, but does the alarm light on the car (middle of windscreen) also flash at the same time?

If it doesn't then they are not communicating with each other, could be a problem with the car receiver as you mention, probably more likely that the fob has reached it's inbuilt limit of presses, or maybe (if it was pressed down in your pocket whilst out of range of the car) that it has rolled the code forward too many times to be accepted by the car anymore, but in that case you should be able to re-sync it.

My money would be that it has reached the end of it's built-in life period (do you know how old that fob is?)

Hi Tex24v, both keys are genuine from new with the car.. I have read about this life limit or presses, i understand the rolling code one but is the other as if it uses too many rolling code combinations it stops being able to communicate with the receiver ?

I've tried every re-sunc option i can find but doesn't talk so was hoping it was someway to re-associate it with the alarm or do they get to a stage although they still work just " don't work" thats highly annoying but guess makes the dealers money..

How sure are you that they are from 2002, seems highly unlikely to me. My 2009 date stamped fob gave up the ghost a year or two ago. (although that was helped along by continuously transmitting due to the microswitch collapsing in on itself) the case looked well worn by that point too, so I would imagine a 2002 fob to have been worn completely through the plastic case almost !

One case is worn through and i have re-soldered new buttons to it ( that ones has only ever worked by using the key itself ) the other had the board checked and new buttons and case top replaced about 6 months before i got her when an alarm fault was repaired by a dealer.

ill check them again as you say may have ben replaced but the wear looks to correspond with vehicle milage. Guess I'm hoping they last like the BMW ones i have that are still going strong and only changed the rechargeable battery once in it ) they are 16 years old now...

Just had a look over and one key has the Delphi frequency on the back twice this one had a board with 3/01 near the serial so guess that is about right, the second remote and one that was working has the delphi info and then N11042 numbers on the back, this one appears to have Mar04 on the circuit board so replaced in 04 ? explains why they look so old and wear seems about right to the porsche badge on them.

Has anyone had then rebuilt / soldered fix OK then can they reprogrammed or does the circuit board just nolonger work with the receiver ? i have seen plenty of posts on needing new switches and re-soldering also one or two cracked circuit boards from pressing too hard.

why are they just so expensive in this day and age and to program.. then a gain i used to work for Mazda Australia and you don't want to know what some top there keys were to replace and recode.

@Blumr2  Have a look @ www.keyfobrepair.co.uk. I had the same issues with mine and they sorted it out for £35.00. Very helpful outfit, also did a friend of my wifes Renault key card thing when garage wanted £150!  I see that you are in London, you could call in. if on the right side!  They replaced all the microswitches and the case, very helpful outfit.

Thanks Toddie, there are so many threads and replies to past comments but no real definite answers for fobs ! i may pop past and get them to check especially the original one and i soldered new buttons on but dubious about the quality of them and have replaced, but the issue is if the fob is OK and lost is coding to the main unit without that bar code can it still be coded to the car even though it once was ? and how much, might pop into my indy specialist and see if they can help and call east london to check as well.

Just annoying it was working one day and gone the next and pay packet gone the next month on keys and programming.  he he he Cars
