Strange beeping noise from Porsche/ Becker CDR22 stereo

Bit of a strange one, driving home in my 2002 S tonight and the radio is occasionally making a load beep beep beep noise (continuous 5 or 6 beeps in a row for a few seconds).  Has anyone come across this before and do you know what it means other than it’s possessed ?

I have the Becker/ Porsche cdr22 stereo but don’t have it’s radio owners manual to read up on it.  It did it twice driving home tonight and has done it a few times over the past few weeks.  Typically once I got home on my driveway and went to restart the car again with my phone in video mode ready to try and catch the sound it didn’t make it.

I wondered if it was trying to tell me that it thought the front was not in place properly for CD access but I checked this and it was fine but the noice still appeared.

Thanks in advance

That's one of the models with the detachable front display that hinges down, I believe (I had the similar MDR32). I'm sure there is a beep just like you describe to alert you to the fact that the front is not quite latched back into place. I seem to remember that when the front is open (or detached), it also slightly mutes the radio/cd playing as well for a while (if you leave the front open it will switch it off after 30 secs or so). Even though you say you've checked this, it might be worth removing the display completely and reattaching it firmly to see if that makes any difference. After pressing the button to swing the front down, you should be able to just pull the whole panel carefully out of the bottom fixings. To reattach it you just push it squarely back into place, push in both top & bottom corners at the same time.

If that doesn't solve it, I think there's a spring-loaded tab underneath the flap, that detects whether the front is in position or not - perhaps something is preventing that working properly (although unless the tab was actually broken off, I would have thought it was more likely to think the front was closed when it wasn't, than the other way around).

BTW, although I'm not aware of the manuals for that generation of Porsche/Becker units being available online any more, the following links are to pdf manuals for two similar Becker units - so although all the details won't all be the same, one or other of them (not sure which is likely to be closest) should give you a pretty good idea of how yours works if there's anything you haven't already worked out:
