120a or 150a alternator

Hi all,

wondering if you can help. After a nightmare with a second hand alternator and the bushing......snapped alternator mount!!!! I need to buy a new alternator and going to get a new aftermarket unit. Aftermarket unit comes with 1 year guarantee same as a Bosch reman, but it is considerably cheaper!

My oringal alternator was making some crazy clacking sound like the bearings were about to fail and looking at the voltage regulator no surprise it has not been charging my car all that well. I think a new battery hid this for a while! As I only use the car very infrequently over the winter.  Car has been completely dead a couple of times and thought it was a duff battery, so replaced it. Odly enough the old battery was indeed knackered. Started doing the same thing on a brand new battery which I thought was odd.

The unit that came of my car is 120a I have found an alternator with the same part number but is a 150a unit. Would there be any issues using this? I only use my car every other weekend and not at all over the last few weeks, due to alternator frustrations :).

part number of original - 996 603 012 02

Thanks

Have you thought about getting your old alternator rebuilt? Much cheaper than a new one and the work is guaranteed. I enquired at the local car electrics specialist last year. They said the alternator was most likely a bosch which meant they had all the parts in stock.  I forget what price they quoted but it was similar to buying a second hand one.

Good suggestion I have just dropped both alternators off. They are going to refurb a good one out of the two!

Should be done by the afternoon
